Crytek Staff - Listen Up

Post » Thu Dec 31, 2009 7:40 am

Most other people don't have the stomach or balls to point this, and other's won't know where to say this, but I find here is the right place -

You're on a very fine tight-rope right now, I and others are highly disgusted at the level of service and support provided by Crytek; I have spoken to EA Support Representatives, who have told me MULTIPLE stories regarding the following issues -

[*]Online lag is always an issue, host-migration has ruined the online side of this game, it's a common problem, it was with most games previously, it is currently a problem, and will be a problem.
What can be done to fix this issue?
Install DEDICATED Servers to bring back the dead online community

[*]Graphics Issues are also a common issue, as you have said about the graphics issue with the grainy crap... and addressing it but providing no update is a problem... I have had THREE Xbox's fail on me due to Crysis 2. The graphics craps out ALL the time. I'm playing on a 12" Non-HD TV, this isn't right...
What can be done to fix this?
A simple patch to fix graphical issues such as the grain, such as the over-loading of data can be provided... Nothing more, nothing less...

I can think of MANY more issues with this game, and to be honest... I don't want to go through the whole list... You should be listening to your customers... they are paying your wages, they deserve a say in the matter... All of those who agree, please post in this forum. Even if you post saying you disagree you are showing you are a supporter of someone/something that WILL LISTEN.

Now now, Crytek you're time starts now, you have until the end of the month to fix the listed above issues, and the other issues you don't know about yet, and provide a decent online service to allow people to play online, and I, Myself, TheUnknowing will hold my hand high and say I was wrong.

Get fixing... Else I won't be buying ANYTHING from your company again, and neither will my friends, family or colleagues. This isn't just my own thoughts, it's everyone I know who has purchased this game.

While I agree there are issues with the game that should have been handled promptly...

This might be the dumbest post I've ever read. Who are you? One person? What do you know about fixing graphical issues? What do you know about installing dedicated servers or even networking protocols? To blindly state these as "simple" fixes is to be completely oblivious to the difficulty of their jobs. I'm no expert... So I choose not to tell them how simple their job is.

Now, I have posted many attacks on Crytek in the past, and while most of it was posted in anger and I know it was irrational and childish... I understand there are constraints they must follow to fix these issues. I don't expect them to be patching weekly. I just want a little communication and a bit more information about what they are doing to keep us happy.

I will say that I will probably hold a grudge against Crytek UK (formerly Free Radical) for some time. I've researched a bit about their games and well Crytek Frankfurt can claim this is their first console release... Free Radical has had a few under their belt. They should have known better, at least slightly. It's just disappointing.

I studied at university for three long years of my life, spent over £15,000 to get an honors degree in business & IT/Networking, I know what I am talking about; if they can switch PC users to & from host migration to dedicated servers like they do so often, I am sure it would be the same on Xbox 360.

Also, graphical fixes; cut me a break, not that hard, because the Xbox 360 only has a total of 512mb of GDDR3 Ram, but, it makes up for it as it is clocked at 700mhz, it is constantly in sync with both the CPU and GPU, Crytek complained they didn't have enough to work with... Really? Anyone with a PC can basically work out that if you have the right CPU and Graphics Processing Unit you can actually run high-spec games without the requirement for a large sum of RAM/Physical Memory. Obviously, you are right, you do not know much about these issues or how to fix them, I on the other hand repair networks for a living, I might be effectively blind in one eye, but even I CAN see that these issues are largely affecting the Crysis 2 community, and even though I am solely pissed off at the developers for so little support, I still stand here today giving my responses and feedback like a customer should, not like some little bich-child who buys the game and then trades it in because it isn't "Call of Duty" or the likes. I am a PC Gamer, and I am also a Console Gamer; I enjoy both. And I SEE A HUGE difference between PC and Console. Quiet frankly, PC IS MUCH more enhanced, has less issues, runs better (Depending on the rig you play on) and has a LOT OF USER SUPPORT from other members who have had issues; user fixes are common throughout gaming communities, some communities don't need wait for the game company to patch holes, they do it themselves, effectively, and sometimes much better than the development team assigned to the online for this game. The 99 of those members who helped make the online side of this game? 99 MEMBERS STRONG; that's 99 EMPLOYED PEOPLE, PAID BY US, TO NOT, I say NOT do their job.

So don't come here, complaining about my post being harsh, when I know what I talk about, I know the differences, to a gaming company, the "Console Market" is for idiots; and quiet frankly, I believe that too, because surely, I am an idiot to see that the Xbox 360 is 8x less powerful than my current PC build. But I have faith in that console, I have shown patience with it, I PAY to play online, I PAY to play my games, and I work hard as hell, sometimes up to 14 hour shifts during my DAYS OFF WORK to ensure I am able to survive, and pay for my food, electric bills, my loan, etc... And when valuable money to me, as much as £45, goes towards a game, that I CANNOT experience online, I think I have a damn say in the matter, don't you?

Free Radical Games however DID make console games, and there ARE members from that developmental team still co-existing in the Crytek office; the fact they don't put their input into it isn't a massive surprise... Not to mention that this game isn't a port either, it was designed as a multi-format game; which basically means that the Cryengine 3, is able to run on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 Consoles. Though I am beginning to think they should have just written it for PC only and then ported the files over to Consoles, as the online and the handling of the game might be a little better.

I've been patient, up until now, I've waited weeks for email responses from Crytek Staff, i've contacted EA NUMEROUS times regarding the online issues with lag etc, they've told me, that "Dedicated servers will be provided for crysis 2 on Xbox 360" and then, as said i've spoken to other colleagues who have told me differently, i'm not happy with the responses, or shal I say lack of responses I am getting from Crytek.

Don't stand there and tell me you're not pissed off with this? because I, and most of the people I know are too.

Crytek svcks and I'll put money on the fact that they'll never fix this garbage.

I'll never buy another crytek release with out waiting a few weeks to see how the community responds to it..... and really.... after this ****..... unless they release a really badass game I'll just deny myself their games out of principle. The lack of support and respect this company has shown it's customers is **** ridiculous.

I'm not saying I'm not disgruntled over the game.

And I do agree that it probably should have been ported from PC to console.

But I don't think anything is as simple as you make it out to be when dealing with Microsoft and possibly Sony. I still don't give a **** about the PS3. I guess what I am saying is that your threats really seem pointless, but the forums are here for venting, I suppose, so say what you must. I've said my piece in the past, and since I have nothing better to do, I'll still be here...

Also, I never said you don't work hard for your money. I work for mine, too, but at the end of the day, it was my decision to buy the game. I could have waited and looked for reviews, but I felt it was going to be a good investment. And for the hours I have gotten out of the game, I'd say it was.

EDIT: Failure to proof read.

I don't care much for PS3 or Sony either, I haven't mentioned what Microsoft need to do, I have solely mentioned what, and only what Crytek and EA are in requirement of. MOST of the people who buy this game and trade it in are children, they don't know how, or like to play games that are a little challenging, I on the other hand love a challenge, I play OF: Red River a lot more then I probably should, but that is because I enjoy it. Sure, it's glitchy, sure, it's engine is a little laggy from time to time, but that is expected. But when I read the reviews, and online reviews are all saying good things about the online gaming side of it, I would expect no different from magazines, ezines and online forums due to the fact most of the reviews portrayed in these books etc are all from recent playthroughs on either the PC or on a LAN.

I don't trust professional reviews, I just don't, maybe it's because I know they are very easily bribed, I trust reviews such as those from Yahtzee "Zero Puntuation" or word-of-mouth from trusted friends and the like, or even some colleagues I work with from time to time. But at the end of the day when a game gets THIS much hype, and turns out to be a waste of time... it just depresses me knowing that my 2 hours pay has gone to waste and is now sitting firmly in the place of some slouches pocket... It's awful, really, awful.

Amen TheUnknowing!

(and here down under we paid $89AUD for it more than elsewhere like most games if you do the math.)

If they won't patch this unfinished sh1te then there will be more than just '1 or 2' people who won't buy anything that Crytek get their amateur hands on - it will be a lot lot more.

People are 'venting' on here for a good reason, we have been shafted by Crytek and they do absolutely nothing (exept useless 4mb 'patches' that in fact do nothing) to correct their unfinished game.

Now more svckers have bought the DLC, I'd be more than surprised to ever see Crytek post on here again.

I'm thinking Snarf this is why every copy is limited edition. They knew they were releasing this bug fest onto the public and that no way known will it ever make it into a "classics" release lmao.

Still hoping for a patch, but still sticking to my guns and not buying the DLC until I see one and verify it actually works.

Nah, it was called Limited Edition because this game is literally LIMITED when it comes to functionality and playability.

You have no idea what you are talking about on dedicated servers.

Did you know every f**king XBox 360 online game is peer to peer?

The "server" just controls playlists and lag compensation, that is all.

Dedicated servers are for PCs, XBox 360 does not run using a dedicated server program.

And while there is peer to peer gameplay on every Live title, there will always be host issues (host migration drops, bad connections, etc.)

Its not just Crysis 2, its all games, it happens in Halo, it happens in Call of Duty, it happens in any game that is peer to peer there is a chance that the host will drop. And if they dashboard, if their xbox freezes, or if they drop their internet connection, it will NOT migrate the host. Its the same in all f**king XBox games.

I'm not saying some of your other points aren't valid, they are. I find the bugs and glitches as annoying as anyone else, and when it comes to connections and lag the only issue with this game over others is the bullet lag, which is a bit of a joke. But when it comes to servers, you have to be joking when you ask for a dedicated server over XBox Live. Such a thing doesn't exist in online console shooters, and I would highly, HIGHLY doubt that Crytek would be the first to take a jump at that. There is bigger fish to fry, so to speak as far as bugs go in this game. At least it doesn't pull a Halo 3 and when it does a host drop without migration doesn't put you in a black screen continual screen loop that you have to dashboard out of or wait 15 minutes.

Actually, I believe Homefront and BF:BC2 (could be wrong here) have dedicated servers on the 360 console...

Also, I get dropped no where near as often in Halo or CoD as I do in Crysis 2.

You are right here - Homefront uses dedicated servers

My point I was trying to make is the vast majority of 360 games that use a lobby system (i.e. shooters, racers, etc) do not use dedicated servers. As far as drop issues, I find my drops to be about consistent with other games. May be my personal experience, but I live in Montana, so its not like I have the advantage of being in a large urban area to start with and being able to get a fiber optic connection or similar. Just normal cable internet (8 mbps) - when I'm not host I'm usually 2-3 bars, unless the host is trans-oceanic (European or Australian) then I have a tendency to single bar. This is the same for *most* games that don't have fantastic net code (an example I'm thinking of would be RF: Guerrilla, which had lag issues very rarely, even when playing with many of my friends who were Australian).

Crytek was simply following the vast majority of other games that use peer to peer hosting, and I don't think that is necessarily a bad decision. I would agree that there is some issues with their net code (I mean, watch the killcams, the bullet lag is ridiculous) However, issues with host migration are more systemic than on this individual game. Most of my friends agree that host drop issues on this are about on the same level as other games. The game having other issues (such as causing more frequent freezing of consoles than other games) could potentially be the cause of a higher level of host drops instead of migrations.

My point is, games like BC2 and Homefront and Section 8 Prejudice DO use dedicated servers and anyone with any PC or gaming know how will know the difference they can make to gaming.

e.g they not only work properly, but they can provide more players per match like 24-32 over 16 P2P.

They only handle playlists and other non essential ****? LMFAO,sorry that's all I can say. Do some reading FFS.

xbox only does P2P LMFAO again, but I will add, tell me why all other P2P games work for me,you know like HALO Reach? even the ones that have dedicated servers like BC2, when I do a P2P match????

Seriously you fanboys need to stop making bullsh1t up and present facts when you make these arguments.

you have fairy land claims on your side, I have 89,maybe more now, pages of bug reports plus a million other topics about people having issues.

Sorry I'll take facts over made up manure any day.

Oh by the way? I'm Australian, nearly every xbox game I own has worked fine online even P2P so stop giving us that **** of we Australians whine and have problems etc etc, seen just as many if not more Canadian Americans and British complaining about this games Hit Detection and Lag than not.

Dude, this is too true lol

Every copy is a limited edition and now I can see why! Why else would they still be limited edition after over 2 months since release?

I bet when/if they games is released they will begin to release normal edition copies.

I think a lot of people overlook the reason why most gamers request dedicated servers.

You're telling me a low budget studio, such as Kaos, can get dedicated servers. Whereas, Crytek cant? Unless theres some serious rifts between publisher, and developer. EA are known to treat DICE (I think they own them, not sure) very well, I don't know about other studios under them. I'd assume Crytek asked for it, and probably was refused. I would expect every dev to at least investigate the possibility.

It’s the same with huge franchises like COD. Well, we all know Bobby Kotick doesn’t wish to damage his wallet. It still begs the question – why don’t they have dedicated servers?

But I do agree with Goose, I wouldn’t expect them in majority titles – unless its exclusive, you may get lucky. Gears of War 3.

Sorry, but the xbox's RAM is actually shared between the CPU and GPU. Computers are much better with this, because they have dedicated CPU RAM (depending if your GPU is imbedded into the chipset). Typical gaming computers have a RAM memory clock of 1600+ mHz, twice as fast as the Xbox. Although if you do have a graphics card, their MEMORY clock can be around 4gHz. Computers use their CPU with graphics as well, so don't say "I'm talking about the GPU." The GPU of the Xbox 360 actually works at about 500 mHz, to process it's maximum 500 million triangles p/second. My computer has a CPU/GPU combined, and it's clock speed can be more than 800 mHz.(Haven't "max" tested it yet)
Okay, back on topic. You definately need to have RAM to be able to run graphics intensive games smoothly. My computer uses 4 gb of RAM when it's IDLE. I'm sure the Xbox needs 10 - 15% of it's RAM just to run it's background operating system.
So your saying with it's 3.2gHz, Tri Core CPU, and 500mHz GPU, it can run a graphics intensive game (Crysis 2) with about 450 mb of RAM? No, and for the point being that it's GPU has a built in 4x AA chip. That needs RAM too.

I studied at university for three long years of my life, spent over £15,000 to get an honors degree in business & IT/Networking, I know what I am talking about; if they can switch PC users to & from host migration to dedicated servers like they do so often, I am sure it would be the same on Xbox 360.

-long story-

As someone who studied IT infrastructure, or networking, or whatever you want to call it, and has years of experience developing games, I don't see how you have the authority to claim that these are easy fixes.

I have some experience programming shaders. I would say the grain bug thing has something to do with a shader not working correctly. Maybe a shader is being applied multiple times at the wrong time. This could be an easy fix.

Dedicated servers, however, would require extensive changes. This could be some of the possible changes in short:
-The front end should be revamped to either a list of servers, or it should point the players to a server through some sort of matchmaking.
-Either way, this requires a new back end. The servers, and/or which player will be connected to which server, need to be managed.
-Then there are the dedicated servers. These need actual physical hardware to run on. Not cheap.
-The location of the servers is important too. You would need to have them located all around the world. Otherwise there are people who will have even worse connections than they have now.

And all these possible changes, I just made up, will have other points of attention.

After reading most of the posts...

The chances Crysis 2 gets Dedicated Servers on 360/PS3 are very slim. Mainly for two reasons:

- High costs.

- The Online Population at least on 360 is quite low, not even among the Top 20 (http://majornelson.com/2011/05/25/live-activity-for-week-of-may-16/)

Besides as already pointed, the Network Code is quite bad.
