Crytek, you OWE it to your original fans to give DX11

Post » Tue Nov 09, 2010 2:42 am

Flame me, troll me, I don't care. Within the last 3 weeks I spend over $1000 to upgrade my rig to be able to play Crysis 2 in all its maxed out glory. To say the least I am PISSED that they have sold out to the consoles on the sequel.

I originally did minor upgrades to my old rig and bought an 8800GT for Crysis 1. Loved the game so much I played it at fairly low framerates of 15+ to play it maxed out as it became one of my favorite games of all time. Then got Warhead and have played the hell out of both games since.

Since the new game was coming, and NVIDIA and Crytek pushed Crysis 2 as best graphics ever, promoting the new gpu's and this damn game, I went all out to make sure I could play part 2, and even my old Crysis games in their DX10, and DX11 goodness.

Its bad enough Crysis 2 is so full of console-specific gameplay and environment changes that it totally has changed the original format, but that is fine, at LEAST give us something to push the hardware that we have invested in. Not to mention us diehard fans of your first games have supported you up to this point.

Yes, I said you OWE it to us because we have made investments to support your company and your software. We know the console sales will give you the revenue you need to keep going as a company, but as a fan who has supported you since Farcry 1, I can't help but feel betrayed if you do not keep to your roots and bring the support that got you to where you are today.

/end rant

- A VERY PISSED OFF PC GAMER.

It's your own damn fault you spent that much on upgrading your computer so that you could play a game you know nothing about. Why should Crytek owe you anything for your stupidity? Also I find it pretty funny that you signed "Pissed off PC gamer", are you sure you're a gamer? Because by the looks of it, you just spent over $1000 to look at the pretty graphics instead of actually enjoying the games... you know gameplay?

DX11 will be supported Nathan Camarillo said that.

"Crysis 2 will support DirectX 11 but we'll talk more about that in the future. There's an announcement coming soon about that."

What would be cool is if DX11 support was a DLC thing. And it came bundled with new nVidia cards!

Cool for us...no...but cool for someone ;-)

Well, it comes down to this, this is what I upgraded to in the past 3 weeks to play this game since Nvidia pushed it on their site, and Crytek pushed it as a breaktrough graphical game that would have DX11 support "eventually".

- MSI P65-GD65A Motherboard
- Intel Core i7 2600K Unlocked
- Corsair 8GB Vengeance RAM
- MSI N650GTX-TX Nvidia DX11 (AHEM!) Graphics Card
- Zalman CNPS10X Extremen CPU Cooler

Now while Crysis 2 may or may not ever have DX11, I have to ask the pc community that is defending them on this issue: What is the point of us to keep upgrading to this new technology, spending all of this money, when the companies that motivated us to do so, STOP supporting the new pc hardware and turn more and more to consoles? I hate to say it but the reality is showing more and more that the pc gaming genre is in trouble unless these companies up their support.

BTW, I am planning to go SLI in 2 weeks when I get the money. However, if this game doesn't go DX11 then there is no point and hence I will not give anymore money to the pc gaming industry as far as hardware wise unless there is a damn good reason (SOFTWARE SUPPORT) to do so.

They didn't make you buy that.

So why did you NEED an i7 2600k over an i5 2500k and 8GB overpriced Vengeance RAM over generic 4GB Ram? Even if the game did support DX11, that is pointless for gaming.

Whahaha.

Think about it. Bad econominal times!
So i am glad my old AMD X2 with a cheap HD 5750 could run Crysis at EXTREME.

If you spend so mutch money on your rig why even complain about the 60 dollars for the game????????

Ever heard of dual channel 2-4g sticks? No? didn't think so.

Also not just for gaming either.

i7-2600k overclocks to 4.4ghz, you can't do that with an i5. It's called building a future-proof system that will last a long time.

Did you play Crysis 1 when it came out? Did it not need highend hardware to max it out? I expected the sequel to push the limit with graphics compared to the old one. Thats why.

Because I am 37 years old and have been gaming since Atari. But more specifically, I have been a PC GAMER SINCE APPLE II+. I am a hardcoe videogamer of consoles and pc's and when it comes to pc's I am a PC gaming ENTHUSIAST. That is why that hardware is available, to run the newest cutting edge games, and software.

Why do you think they invent this highend stuff? For their health?

I didn't. If you read my original post you'd see that I complained about the principal of this matter, considering what was advertised, and what we ended up with.

A cheaper i5 2500k and 4gb of generic ram WILL max out Crysis, I know because that's what I played with. It will do the same for Crysis 2.

The i7 has hyperthreading which is useless for games, so you get no real advantage in Crysis because it does not utilise the 8 cores, and it runs in 32bit - DOES NOT ADDRESS MORE THAN 4GB.

You're own ignorance/stupidity caused your problem here.

The i7 with hyperthreading is for audio/video editors that need all possible cores running, not for gamers. It doesn't matter what developers promise, the higher end hardware caters to specific uses.
