CTD after 10-15 seconds : IV

Last night, everything worked fine. Today, I load up my game, and 10-15 seconds after doing so, it crashes to the desktop. I've no idea why.

May be related to Choices and Consequences. I had some odd problems showing up in trying to finish the Leyawin Mage Guild recommendation, and paying 500 gold to get around the issue seemed okay at the time--except that it's the save game causing the CTDs. Dagail's subject to discuss her father and get the Fort BlueBlood site icon isn't appearing, as it should.

Well, yeah. That's a given.

But I'm shooting in the dark here, and started the thread in the hopes someone might have some other possible insights to offer. In turn, I'm updating in the hopes that if by some slim chance I do find the cause, my solution might help others in the future.

I'm not sure if C&C was the culprit or not, but I finished the Leyawiin mage guild quest by going to Fort Blueblood instead of paying 500 gold, then completed Bravil's quest, getting all my recommendations. Saved, exited, and reloaded--no problems. So that might be the issue.

Another possibility was due to enchanting a pair of rings and giving them the same name (money) since they fortified my character's mercantile skill. I can't see that as the an issue, however, since uniques can have the same name without difficulties.
