CTD on armor/clothing change

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 3:49 am

Just like the title says, the game crashes when I try to change my outfit. Doesn't happen every time...maybe half of the time. Jewelry doesn't seem to do this, just armor/clothing. Vanilla-wear does this too, not just items added by mods. Any insight as to why this is happening would be appreciated...getting tired of having to quick save every time I want to change my shirt... :)

Here's my load order...I've used BOSS on it, so it should be kosher...

First off, bumping a mere hour after posting is considered bad form ;) The forums aren't has lively as they used to be, so don't expect immediate answers all the time. And second, 'kosher' is my word :P Now then, the only thing which really stands out is Frostcrag at the very bottom. I'm pretty sure it belongs w/ the other DLC stuff at the top. Next, Natural Environments was discovered to be highly buggy and unoptimized, definitely remove it. If your hardware can handle an upgrade, I highly recommend using http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=18305 instead. Lastly, Decorator Assistant gets very weird when dealing w/ a lot of script-heavy mods. If all of the above don't fix your crashing and the problem escalates beyond clothes, then you might to temporarily disable DA.

Did you run that load order through BOSS? DLCFrostcrag should not be at the end... That other mod does not belong there either.

Thanks for the reply ... I realized bumping so soon probably wasn't a good idea after I bumped. My apologies - a bit frustrated at the time.

Anyhoo, frostcrag isn't actually at the bottom...or at least it doesn't appear that way in my load order in OBMM...I don't know why it's showing up down there when I export the list. I'll swap out natural environments.

I have run BOSS, so I'm not sure why the order looks weird...I'll look into it.

Thanks for the replies, I really appreciate it.

Either BOSS is not working or you have a masterlist so outdated, I do not remember ever having downloaded it (DLCFrostcrag unrecongized?) What did your BOSS Log say? Are you using Wrye Bash? If so, did you turn off 'Lock Times' before running BOSS?

I'm not sure what happened. I went back in a double checked and now the load order is fine...frostcrag back up where it's supposed to be. I'm using the latest masterlist. Anyway, that's not the cause of the problems, I'm 95% sure.

Not using Bash at this point, I messed up my game pretty bad with it and had to reinstall.

Wrye Bash - http://sites.google.com/site/oblivionpoinfo/prep/wrye-bash <-- Installing this utility should not mess up your game. This page steps through the install and config process.
SL.ini Tweaks - http://sites.google.com/site/oblivionpoinfo/stabilization/streamline <-- make sure this guy is setup properly as well...

I think I should head to bed now. It is already 6:10 AM, but I'm hungry... (and, yes, I will be delirious for the rest of the day, deal with it... :))

Yeah, I know I just had bash set up wrong. It's a fantastic app, I just didn't know what I was doing. That site looks really helpful, thanks for that. Same for the SL.ini site.

I believe I've narrowed the problem down to armor/clothing with scripts attached...I can't say that with 100 percent certainty, but it looks that way. Scripted jewelry does occasionally cause crashes, contrary to my original assessment.

Anyway, thanks for the tips. Much appreciated. :)

Mart's Monster Mod - Gems & Gem Dust.esp <-- This modification may cause crashes (and inconsistencies) when run with OOO because OOO already includes G&GD. If you want a more advanced version of OOO's G&GD system, grab the OBSE rewrite. Remove this plugin, and see if that remedies some of the crashes. You probably need to do a clean save. Drop all of the jewelry from your inventory, save, remove the plugin, and relaunch.

You have to drop Natural Water if you are using Enhanced Water, by the way.

Popular Outdated Mod - http://sites.google.com/site/oblivionpoinfo/stabilization/outdatedmods <-- remove or trade up these

Ok, cool. I'll get rid of that...I've dropped natural water since posting that.

Thanks for the tips, learning a lot as I go here...
