CTD on entering cell

I was testing my mod ingame and the game has started CTD-ing when the PC tries to enter an interior cell. There's nothing in the cell except statics, a few lights and a couple of doors. Since the PC last successfully entered the cell, I've added quite a lot of statics, so my guess is either that the cell is too big, or there are too many statics or there are too many large statics. The statics are just a re-textured cave tileset, so I don't think there can be a problem with the statics themselves. Also, the lights and doors were there before the crashing started. There's water in the cell as well.

I've also been fiddling with the light sttings in the ini file, but I hope I'm right in thinking that this won't have caused the problem, since all the other cells load OK.

Are there any hard limits for an interior cell that would cause a crash? Other things that can cause a CTD on entering an interior cell?

EDIT: I found the following paragraph on Princess Stomper's site, which I don't understand:

"I noticed that Blake’s meshes were pointing to textures that were in a subfolder rather than loose in the textures folder – so there was a texture load error and CTD when loading the cell. I copied the files out of the subfolder and into the Textures folder, which solved the problem"

I've used lots of textures in sub-folders without a problem, can it cause problems under certain circumstances? If so, what are they?

You can try cutting the cell into two cells. Or you can try to remove some of the objects, especially Lights and NPCs, as they seem to have a big impact on performance.
Both things have worked for me in the past.

Meshes using the wrong texture path shouldn't cause a crash. You would just get a warning message when you entered.

If it's just a performance issue I'll have to make the cell smaller. Thanks for the reply.

EDIT: It was the change to the light settings in the ini file that broke the cell - which remained broken even after I changed them back and stripped out the lights and most of the statics. I had to re-do the cell from scratch. It may have been something to do with the lighting mod I was using - Lights 300 - also, or a combination of that plus the size of the cell. I have no real idea, since no other cell was affected.
