CTD when loading a save!

Post » Wed Sep 14, 2011 8:21 pm

Hi, I've recently gone back to Morrowind doing my biannual replay. Have lots of mods installed. Had some problems with CTDs but nothing beyond what seems inevitable on Morrowind...
But then i installed two mods, Oluhan and Hotfusions Econadjuster. And now i get a CTD whenever i try to load a save, ingame. So my save seems not to be corrupted.
Only when im in the game, morrowind CTDs on the "clearing data" portion of the load process.

I have installed MCP/MGSO/MGE/MWSE aswell, and every other content mod has been installed with Wrye Mash(which admittedly i dont quite understand) but all mods are green in Mash, and my save is purple (and all mods in the savetab are blue) which means that my savegame is not corrupted doesnt it?

So, what could cause such a load-error? MLOX tells me my load order is fine..

Any help is appreciated!

MGE already contains MWSE, are you, by any chance, running the game through MWSE launcher?

Yup.
Did not see any note of that in MGE... But i have been using both, I.e Using the MWSE launcher, since day 1. But the crashes did not occur well after that.

might be a bugged script of one of your mods. Try to disable scripts when still in the main menu (console -> ToggleScripts)
When they are turned off, try to load. If it works, either save immediatly or go to a different cell first

Ah, i did some looking around, turns out i got a script error, "unable to find script 'Ash_zombie_s' on object 'ash_dead'" missed it before. How do i figure out where it is from and how do i fix it? (I'm guessing it has something to do with Undead Rise mod)

Edit: After some mucking around, trying togglescripts in various combinations, morrowind still crashes when i try to load. What bugs me is that I can load the my save the first time. Its just when i load "in game" that it crashes..

Thanks for the help so far though, much appreciated.

Did you try running the game without MWSE Launcher? Or without any mods?

Starting without the MWSE launcher with the same results. Without any mods on a clean (new game) i could load/quickload all in good fashion..
So there's something there that is wrong. But Wrye doesn't seem to detect it.

Anyone have a good troubleshooting guide for this kinds of conflicts. I have been adding on mods as i went along ingame, could this be a source of the problem?

Another thing, how does one handle adding mods to a current savegame, as to ensure that there are no conflicts or general instability. Seems my policy of adding in a few mods has screwed my current savegame

possibly you should always clean a save with wrye mash or MCP savegame cleaning function

This is how I handle adding mods
Step 1. Create a clean save on a new game(I make mine right inside addamasartus)
Step 2. Copy and rename your save something like CleanSave
Step 3. Add the mods you want one at a time
Step 4. As you add mods save a copy and reload it to check for errors on startup
Step 5. If there aren't any errors have fun(Just remember always keep a backup in case a mod messes up your save)

You could try http://www.mwmythicmods.com/argent/tech/bin_srch.html to try to find a mod that causes CTDs.

You should still stop using MWSE alongside MGE, though.

That I've done, might have made a mess of things when i installed all the MCP/MWSE first, then found MGSO. Which apparently is so easy to install that it had all those things already...
I will try the clean save strategy, it seems logical. And the binary thing was simple genius.

Thanks for the help!

That error comes from Alchemy Storage Helper. It is fairly harmless, but the explanation of how to get rid of it is available where the mod is uploaded and in the mod readme, IIRC.

If you are trying to load a save made in an exterior cell, try loading another save from an interior cell and then using options to load the save you want to load. If it works, just remember not to make saves outside. Your best bet is to save frequently in relatively small, preferably un-modded, interior cells and always in a new save slot..
