CTD's (when restarting or )loading Skyrim

Post » Wed Jun 19, 2013 2:28 pm

So I get the weirdest errors. It mostly boils down to this:

I sort my modlist, start a new game. When I save, exit to the main menu and load the game is fine. But when I close Skyrim that save becomes "corrupted" and CTDs the moment it's loaded. Other times the game CTDs on start unless I verify my game cache and it redownloads a small file.

Modlist:

I first figured it was related to the Helgen quest and once I finish it it would go away but it didn't.

I'm running

Win7

Intel Core Duo 3.4GHz

4GB RAM

ATI Radeon 5700

Skyrim, ATI and DirectX are up to date. I'm mostly stumped how it can work and then not work after I exit the game. It makes no sense to me.

CTD on start means you're missing a master, or a master is being loaded below a plugin that requires it to be loaded first.

Have you used BOSS to sort your mods?

What is your load order?

Big mod list.

Edit: after sorting with BOSS I am assuming you rebuild your bashed patch and re-run ASIS?

Edit 2 : I see that they are not active.....

Bashing Patches with Wrye Bash is really good way of looking after mod load order and enjoying the benefits of all mods that might be adding items or creatures etc to levelled lists. Everytime you install or move load order, you should rebuild the bashed patch, normally last to near last on mod load order.

Asis is running a java programme which needs then to be re-run after rebuilding the bashed patch.

Failing to do these after installing or moving mods is a good way of creating issues with your save.

It's with new games or modless saves. I get a CTD after restarting the game when I haven't touched my modlist at all nor used the Skyrim launcher to get workshop mods. I change Nothing yet it crashes when I either start simply the game or when I'm lucky on save loading.

Enabling ASIS or Bashed Patch won't change a thing. I just disabled them to see if that helped and it didn't. BOSS is used and the unrecognised plugins are placed among their peers in teh list, armor with armor, quest with quest etc.

My issue is that it works one session and the next it doesn't. Vanilla I have no issues so I deduct it must be a mod.

Are they all "must have" mods?

I disabled halve, still at times I get crashes when loading the save (save without mods in it, no missing master).

You may want to perform a binary search to see if that pinpoints a mod.

If it is a missing master do this: open Wrye Bash and look for any red checkboxes (http://tesfans.org/guides/wrye%20bash/docs/Wrye%20Bash%20General%20Readme.html#load-symbols), if you find any try to understand why that mod needs that master and of course read the readmes for those mods. If you can't understand why a mod is dependent on a master you can force it to use a different master with wrye bash or tes5edit, but that my cause serious errors in-game. If you don't understand anything i am saying, you probably need to read up some on modding before handling so many mods.

If its not a missing master then something is very very wrong
