Culprits of changing reference of Vivec, Almalexy, Dagoth...

Post » Sun Feb 21, 2016 1:29 am

Hello,

I have been thinking for some time about replacing Vivec, Almalexia, Dagoth Ur and Hircine with NPC versions (similar as Psymonister's Vivec replacer NPC edition). I could actually make the mod I want with changing Vivec and Almalexia only. Of course, I'm afraid of unwanted consequences and incompatibilities. I suppose I would have to reassign all dialogue to these new NPC copies. What I wanted to ask is if you are aware of any other possible problems and mods this change might conflict with? Could it be solved by deleting the original creature entry via esp and naming the NPC reference the same (I actually never tried to do this, so I'm not even sure this is possible)?

Thank you all for your thoughts :)

EDIT: I totally forgot about requiring new body parts. Thanks to Greatness7 for remining me.

It's not exactly easy. You'll need custom models since NPCs require races which require bodyparts which require custom rigging/animations, etc, etc. It's an annoying process, but I'd love if someone made NPC versions of the creeper/mudcrab. It'd be nice since it would allow them to actually have mercantile skills and not be so stupidly overpowered to the point of breaking the economy and making certain attributes/skills near worthless.

Oh, I absolutely forgot about body parts, thanks!

EDIT: And what about a way to switch models of given creature? Of course, this is not possible to do right now, so it would also probably require new references.

What exactly were you wanting to gain from switching them to NPCs btw? One alternative way of accomplishing this is by putting an OnActivate script on the creature that redirects interactions to the NPC version.

if ( OnActivate )
"VivecNPC"->ForceGreeting
endif

Allow them to wear clothing. But I totally forgot about the body parts.
