Cumulative Speculation related to TES V #14

Post » Wed Aug 26, 2009 3:42 am

If ESV doesn't get announced for some months, I have a big feeling we're going to be seeing major improvements to character behavior: facial animations, body animations, etc. Todd Howard stated in a G4 interview after Fallout 3 was released that they weren't satisfied with character behavior in FO3 and they were looking to improve it for their next project. Also, Emil said he wanted to improve storytelling for their next project as well.

I will restate some information I posted a while ago.

I live in California, and my video class at my high school was going to visit the local Snoopy's Home Ice Rink, in Santa Rosa, where 2K was working on motion capture for their new game NHL2k11. That was cool, we got to see guys covered in dots, etc, it was awseme. Then it got awsemer.
This guy there, he never said his name, was explaining to us how the motion capture worked. He talked aboput techniques, how sometimes its hard to Capture on ice. He said it was easier to work on bioskock lol...And he talked about some other projects he worked on, like Borderlands, NBA2k, etc. He mentioned briefly, and I quote.
"And this really awseme unnanounced project were working on with a studio in Maryland."
He does Motion capture exclusively.
Later, I thought, wait! Bethesda is in Maryland, Bethesda is owned by 2k because Zenimax is owned by 2k!
Didn't Todd Howard say in an interview that they would strive for better character animations in future games?
Okay, this might not be ES5, and it might not even be bethesda, but If im not mistaken, there arent many game studios in maryland, least of which are owned by 2k.
So whatever that all means, it could mean the next installment in The Elder Scrolls will have kickass motion capture animations!

Back in august 2005 there was an http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/08/14/AR2005081400853_2.html about Bethesda building a motion capture studio.
The company's kitchen is out of commission to make way for the growth; in the works are a sound studio and a "motion-capture" studio, where an actor's movements are recorded before they are translated digitally into the game world.

This is why there are good animations in the beginning of Fallout 3 Operation: Anchorage when the other guy climb the mountain, for example.

Fallout 3 a steaming pile of crap? I'll have to disagree with that. Fallout 3 is a great game, and it showed improvement in some of Oblivion's weakpoints.

Did it improve over Fallout 2, though? We shouldn't be comparing a FALLOUT game to a TES game. They're completely opposite. Interplay/Black Isle did Fallout the best-- no one will ever do it better, no matter how hard they try. If you'd played the original games with open eyes and an empty cup you'd agree. Bethesda should stick with TES. I just completed my third playthrough of FO2 and I realized, all this stuff you see in Fallout 3, all these stylistic touches, the things that made Fallout 3 special-- the Robo-brains, the vaults, the president's insidious plans, FEV, a city of Ghouls, the Enclave, the worshipers of the glow-- hell practically EVERY FACET OF FALLOUT 3, was created by interplay and regurgitated in next gen graphics by Bethesda. Now people are giving Bethesda credit for all this [censored] when it was Interplay who made it all in the first place!

Now, on to the matter at hand.

I forsee Bethesda making Fallout 4 and it's DLC before TESV. I don't know this for a fact, but I'm jaded and in a bad mood.

I think that Fallout 3 and it's future sequels shouldn't be compared to the original Fallouts, because when that happens everybody gets insulted. Fallout 3 on it's own is an amazing game, but it's radically different from the original Fallouts. It's no better or worse, because you can't compare them. Just like you can't compare TES and Fallout 3.

I also think taking a lot of things from Fallout 2 was intentional. They had to make it at least look like a Fallout game first, to not upset original Fallout fans. Of course, they didn't forsee original Fallout fans being absolutely un-pleasable. As long as Bethesda calls it's games Fallout *, original fans will hate it no matter what.

I forsee Bethesda making Fallout 4 and it's DLC before TESV. I don't know this for a fact, but I'm jaded and in a bad mood.

I doubt it. It would be a bad move, because they'd be pissing off the majority of their fans. A good balance is alternating between series, like TESV, Fallout 4, TESVI, Fallout 5, etc. etc.

The reason many relate Fallout 3 to TES is because TES is the only RPG Bethesda has made beside Fallout 3, which obviously means Fallout 3 shares a lot with TES and the future of TES. I for one saw a new and refined line of thinking in Fallout 3 that really made me feel TES V was in good hands. Fallout 3 felt a LOT like Morrowind 2.0.

Based on when they showed off Oblivion in this 2004 October issue of Gameinformer I have here, I believe its going to be around this time, next year. :P

I also think taking a lot of things from Fallout 2 was intentional.

Of course it was. Just like how Daedra shrines are in multiple TES games, and will be in future TES games too. To some extent the lore of the past games dictate what developers can do with the future games. Of course, one can bend the lore and change bits here and there, but one can't bend it infinitely cause then it wouldn't be the same game universe anymore.

I speculate an announcenent some time about a month before e3, so they can show it off there. I would say...May 15.

While I would welcome an announcement before E3, I'm curious why you think there will be one?

For some reason a lot of people belived last year that Bethesda would announce TES5 at E3 2009, but that never happened. And then didn't announce Morrowind or Oblivion at E3 either so it's not something they done in the past.

They did, however, show public gameplay footage of Oblivion for the first time during E3 2005, but by then the game had been announced for ~8 months and lots of gaming magazines all over the world had written articles about the game so a fair share of information was already known, except how it looked in motion.

Announcing ESV while Bethesda Softworks is hyping up Fallout: New Vegas doesn't seem like the best idea. I dunno.

Well they're also hyping Brink at the same time they're hyping NV, so I don't think they'd have a problem hyping TESV as well. After all, they have an equal interest in all of them succeeding.

I agree that Bethesda should focus on TES series, and I don't care for the Fallout series nearly as much as TES series, but Fallout 3 is a good game, regardless of what previous Fallout games are and regardless of the fact that I prefer TES series. Fallout 3 is the only RPG Bethesda has made other than TES series, so it is a sign of the direction Bethesda is taking, and it improved in some of Oblivion's weakpoints.

Realisticaly

I dont think we're gonna get a game better than Oblivion, Every new release I have bought in the last 2 years is utter [censored] and it only gets worse, The latest game I bought was DiRT2 and thats a horrible game, FarCry2, Sims3, etc. are all horrible games with not much content, Not to mention Oblivion. TES V is just gonna be another crappy FPS with swords attached and barely any lore or story, Its gonna be full of bugs and game play issues and then its going to be rushed out the door just before christmass 2012 and then abandoned. it will be reliant on Games For Windows Live and it will be unmoddable as the game devs will not want you changeing thier awsomely spectacular (utter crap) art style. And the reason why they havent released a single bit of information about TESV is its going to be completely [censored] and dont want to scare away its fan base too soon. In fact, they havent even been working on TES V, they've been working on WET (which failed) and Brink (just another cliche FPS) and the new Fallout game which hasnt been anounced yet. And they wont be working on TES untill theyre done with thier new fanchises and then gonna spend only a year on it before they rush it out unfinished in time for christmas. Game devs over hype thier features in games adn claim that their game is innovative and new, which is also [censored] because every "innovative" feature they can put into a computer game has allready been thought of in real life, like "Radiant AI", thats not new, I can step out my front door and see people washing thier cars or repairing the road, all by them selves, and its realy not that amazing. The closer games get to real life the less impressed I am.

Hi Cat herder!

Realisticaly

Not very, no.

Its gonna be full of bugs and game play issues and then its going to be rushed out the door just before christmass 2012 and then abandoned.

Many people speculate that Bethesda started to work on TES5 after Fallout 3 was released, so how is a game developed from late 2008 to late 2012 rushed?

it will be unmoddable as the game devs will not want you changeing thier awsomely spectacular (utter crap) art style.

That doesn't make any sense at all, considering what large success modding been for Morrowind, Oblivion and Fallout 3.

In fact, they havent even been working on TES V, they've been working on WET (which failed) and Brink (just another cliche FPS)

Bethesda Game Studios never ever worked on those games.

I can step out my front door and see people washing thier cars or repairing the road, all by them selves, and its realy not that amazing. The closer games get to real life the less impressed I am.

Then stop playing games and pursue other real life activities that impress you.

Because society didn't hand you a job gift-wrapped with a bow? Rather than society rejecting you, perhaps it is you who have rejected society? I'm not normally one to flame, but do not darken these forums with your self-pitiful rants. They offer zero contribution, especially to this thread.

I remain hopeful that TES:V will live up the standard of what an Elder Scrolls game should be, and I'm not overly concerned with when it will be announced.
