Cumulative Speculation related to TES V #15

Post » Sat Oct 03, 2009 6:58 am

I probably wont listen to the recorded version when I get home if I see that it had no new news.

But what about all of Todds amazingly funny jokes? You would be missing out...
And besides, these has to be some new information tomorrow.....

I'm not very savy with podcast procedure...

I doubt I will be able to listen to the live broadcast; how long will it take for the podcast to be available? I will be in a Michigan hotel Wednesday night with my netbook. Do you think it will be available by then? Do I need itunes to access the podcast, or will I be able to get it from the Kotaku website?

I hope to listen to the interview tomorrow night before checking on these forums. Just in case there is news, I don't want to spoil the surprise -- like seeing the score of the big game before you have a chance to watch your recording!

I'd just cautiously remind you all of the heart-crushing dangers of getting your hopes up...

Odds are very high of them 1) screening calls, and 2) Todd laying out either right away or after the first request that he's not at liberty to comment on any potential future titles, even commenting on whether they're in development or not. It's what they've been dong all along. Is it the first time they've been taking fan questions in a long while? Sure. Is that trademark statement-of-use clock ticking away? Sure. But neither are really solid indicators that Todd's going to give away anything TES:V-interesting during the podcast.

Now, if he says to keep our eyes on an upcoming issue of Game Informer (considering both Oblivion and FO3 were announced via Game Informer)... Then we might have something very much worth talking about. And if something does happen, I'll be ecstatic. But don't be surprised if we get nothing.

Yeah, there are other things he could talk about. They bought id software last year and could talk about how that is going, or about Fallout: New Vegas or maybe they have some portable iPhone title of Fallout 3 going on or whatever. It doesn't need to be about TES5, even if that would be nice.

There was a rumor a few days ago that the next issue of Game Informer will have information about Fallout: New Vegas, although now it seems like it was a fake. So who knows?

For maximum informational gathering potential, ask about either "hypothetical situations", such as "If you were suddenly given the assignment to head up a new TES game, what areas would you like to change the most from TESIV, or when applicable, Fallout 3?"
or... historical ones:
"How did the final Oblivion speechcraft system work for you?"

Game devs will allmost never admit to or apologise for including a failed feature in ther games. Even if it did svck badly.

Not when it's new and still selling well in stores anyway, but Oblivion is now 4 years old.

Eh...I don't see this interview as being significant. We might get tidbits to tear apart voraciously in rabid speculation, but don't expect anything remotely close to an announcement.

Hmmmm....perhaps our weeks of whining because of a lack of speculation is not in vain, anyway, for those who are able to try calling, i know i will.

QUICK EDIT: Oh and i almost forgot, ask a question that wouldn't be too obvious e.g. "what was your favorite creature model in Fallout 3 and Oblivion" subtlety is the key, then when they let you talk to him...WHAM! TES V! ANNOUNCEMENT! OR TINY BIT OF SPECULATION!....please? :poke:

Screw subtlety. I didn't get where I am by subtlety, I got there by pushing hard and loud. It's worked pretty good so far, why not keep going with it?

And where did you get to? Just curious.

Likewise. Funny as Todd can be, I'm in it for the gaming news.

Good point, maybe he would answer that. another good hypothetical would be "what lessons or features of Fallout 3 would you like to integrate into the future of TES?"

And where did you get to? Just curious.

Managed to get two jobs in a crap economy and got into a pretty decent college.

So, from the Kotaku interview, we only got that they started working on their next game (probably TES5, but could be something else) after Fallout 3.

I don't think we can expect a release before summer 2011. Most likely, Bethesda aims at a Christmas 2011 release.

When the recorded podcast comes out I'll post a direct quote so there wont be any arguing about it.

Two things i got from the podcast...1st) Todd said that since fallout was released his team or half has been working on environments and npc interaction. Now the only reason for that would be for an rpg 2nd) Last qustioned asked was about what todd would bring to a new elder scrolls game that was in morrowind but lacking in oblivion and he said culture. These don't give me any reason to be overly excited about seeing a new elder scrolls game any time soon but more that the development team has obviosly heard and seen some of the bigger complaints about oblivion and fallout and are really putting an effort into there next game.

As far as what game they are working on i think it wouldn't make sense to work on fallout 4 with new vegas launching this year so all speculation at least for me is a new elder scrolls game?

He also mentioned that his games were lacking in the animation department, and he wanted to improve that the most. Do you guys remember some time last year, a member said 2k games came to his school and said they're working on some animation game with one of the games they're publishing?

Yeah. Bethesda also has their own motion capture studio. I'm not gonna worry.

Yes actually kotaku has quite a few followers and brings gaming news as soon as it happens.

Anyway also take a read of the article no where does it say you cannot ask about anything and also ill quote "Ask him about Fallout, Oblivion or whatever else strikes your fancy".
To me i see ask away at whatever tickles your pickle. Which i hope many people do and hopefully this time tomarrow we will all have some juicy news to talk about. I don't expect to get a full announcement from this type of event i just expect a hint or a hint of an announcement. Like we have something to announce at e3. Which is news enough for me

Uhmm... What is Kotaku? I'd really like to hear this Todd guy, Because ever since I beat Oblivion, I've been HUNTING down answers for a new TES. I've about given up on it, because I don't feel like I, as a consumer, should have to hunt down answers for several years to find nothing. It's INSANE! I'd really like to hear some kind of announcement, even if it's so small as to say that they're working on it. Idk, answers anyone?

Ok guys I've got what Todd Howard said:

http://www.blogtalkradio.com/kotaku/2010/01/06/chatting-with-fallout-and-oblivions-todd-howard

9:30

“As far as the game engine we use, you know it's mostly our own, we started a long time [ago] with the Gamebryo engine, which is mostly a renderer, and that was over 10 years ago now, and over the course of that time we've done a lot of our own development, all the shading and lighting and most now is homegrown stuff. So that being said every time we do a game we spend a lot of time adding to the engine, tooling parts that we feel don't work right, we have very specific needs for the kinds of games we like to make, their size and how big the world is, and we've sort of been doing that with the big new game we're making since we finished Fallout 3. You know we finished Fallout 3 over a year ago so that whole time has been spent re-doing a large part of our basic technology, and things everybody points out in our games..."

So there you have it, proof that they've only been working on the new game since Fallout 3. This means that they've only been working on it for a little more than a year, and with the 3-4 year development time of Bethesda games, they still have a long way to go.

(blah blah blah)

Thank you for that.

I think it's also feasible they were fooling around with concepts and ideas before they starting working on the engine.

I would hope so. But unfortunately they couldn't have done much actual in-game stuff before then. Still, we already know they have the plot of TESV planned out, considering they helped write the books, so that's good news I guess.
