Cumulative Speculation related to TES V #15

I think the interview sounded promising, but then I was happy with the direction Fallout 3 was moving in after Oblivion. On the basis of that interview I have raised my hopes :P

Probably better memory management, scripting, less clunkiness, etc.

I was hoping for 64-bit, along with tightening up the memory stuff (in case y'all don't notice, 64-bit Windows is slightly draconian on apps that misbehave... and I like it that way. I just don't like my game dying because of it!)

We can only hope, though. (and the list was just a off-the-cuff review of the interview to spark discussion!)

Not suprised it was nothing more than what we expected...but I am dissapointed to hear it has only been worked on this past year...

I cant say im not a bit dissapointed. Its okay though, they are hard at work on something, and thats enough for me.
And if a Developer reads this comment, you guys rock!

As Orzorn mention, I would not be surprise if the Dev already started on other stuff (concept art, ideas, mapping, music, etc) before they were reworking the engine.

The dev team should play Shadow of the Colossus. Fantastic horse animations, and I really like how natural the Wanderer's (?) running and jumping was. Admittedly, it is not heroic jumping nor graceful leaping. But the animations do flow well visually, and in a gameplay sense.

Well, it's nice to get some insight into how the engine is going, and what some of their focuses are (animation system) all for ESV (presumably).

The horses in Assassin's Creed II were very good in this aspect.

You know, I was just about to say that. I'm not saying they should completely mimic AC's dynamics of the free-movement, but definitely more free range movement, rather than the stiff, prim and proper movement of any character. Maybe some clothing movement, especially on longer items, like robes, rather than clothing literally STRETCHING to form to the player's movement. But I'm making this look like a suggestions-type post, it's not, just something I think we all should expect to be worked on.
..... Right? Lol

It's not working too well for me. I'm not hearing anything but static. Anyway, I'm guessing TES V wasn't mentioned at all, as the forums are still functioning.

Did you try opening it in your player ? (the link is just below the small blogtalkradio box and above the "add this player to your websites")
I had the same problem than you when it was still airing live and opening it in winamp fixed the problem. (even though for some reason, it's working perfectly fine without doing anything now)

Thanks for the advice. I'll try it tomorrow, I'm going to sleep now.

I was hoping I would find some more information about the engine.

This quote is from the last thread, but it's something I wanted to chime in on.

Oblivion was released in March 2006 and Fallout 3 was released in October 2008. This is not 4 years and 3 months as one of the earlier posts said. This is only 2 years and 7 months.

It's 4 years since an Elder Scrolls game. Fallout isn't an ES game and so some ES Fans won't be including it in their projected timelines.

I will say that if they made Elder Scrolls fans wait 8 years between games (in the fast paced world of gaming nowadays, as opposed to the 90's), I could see TES 5 doing less business for them. That long of a gap in a genre overfilled the way that fantasy RPG's are nowadays will leave a bad taste in current ES Fans mouths.

Also we grow and get older and tastes change, so you loose alot of your audience who liked previous games with long production times.

I grew up on Doom and Wolfenstein 3D. Then when Doom 3 finally came out, not many of my generation wanted to play games any more, and the new generation hated it. Personally I loved it and I thought it was a realy well done remake of the series. But I realy couldnt give a crap about Doom 4.

With such a large time gap in product releases you loose alot of your fan base, like many people have said on this forum, if we dont get any information about TES V this year, were just gonna give it up. And I am not waiting for a 2012 release.

Unlike your example, Morrowind and Oblivion generated new fans. Shooters are mostly indestinguished, compared to other shooters, but TES stands out in its genre for many reasons.

Hey guys, anyone care to just restate some of the major points? I heard the culture thing by reading this and that's cool, but I don't want to listen to the whole thing for what sounds like only two or three things that MAY be related to TESV.

And what was that about empty notes? They better not do that. Works for Fallout but TES books are a major part of the thing.

Also, about the culture, was he like staling me? Haven't I been saying the reason that games like Morrowind and Ocarina of Time are great while games like Oblivion and Rise of the Argonauts are only good is because the latter two could have the same story in any setting while the former two only work in the setting they have?

  • Basic parts of the engine are being redone, as I'm sure pretty much every aspect of it will be.
  • One of Bethesda's focuses is the animation system.
  • They've been redoing the engine since Fallout 3's release.
  • The next Elder Scrolls game should have more culture.

That's about all I can think of.

Huh. Those all sound pretty good, and suspiciously exactly like we've been asking for in a lot of cases.

Todd Howard also said this, and I paraphrase- "We're VERY, VERY aware of the technical deficiencies in our games, and we know the same technical problems that other gamers know when they play our games".

I figured they'd be aware of it. My new perspective keeps me from thinking bethesda does things half-assed. I know they try, and while Gamebryo is probably the best option of many it does have limitations that, apparently, they want to fix up.
