Cumulative Speculation related to TES V #17

Post » Mon Dec 07, 2009 9:54 pm

Forgive me for asking but I'm relatively new around here.

At what point is a post considered "off-topic?"
See, often times I get the inkling that a post or series of posts might have wandered off topic, but then on re-reading I see where they are both related and relevant to the topic on hand if even only as a comparison. For instance, in this case, discussion of an MMO in this thread which is not directly -about- the MMO, but to alot of people the creation of an MMO and the rumors surrounding it do influence what they feel ight be included in TES:V.

Some folks even speculate (erroniously, I've come to understand) that they might be the same game; or that the release of one might impact the release of the other. So, again, at what point does a post become so "off-topic" that it requires moderation? I've posted in this thread and while I hold no resentment toward the deletion/relocation of my posts, none of what I posted felt unrelated to the topic at hand. . . at least not in the context I posted it.

Again, forgive me if this question seems out of line.

As long as it's about the future of the TES series, whether that be TESV, the MMO or the next book, it's on-topic. But if you mention anything not related to TES or tried to talk about past TES games without making a point about future games, it would be off-topic.

First off, welcome! Second, posts are off topic when they don't directly reference the thread's original post in some way or another. As was previously mentioned, this thread is dedicated to the discussion of speculating TES:V. It is, in a way, a repository of rumors and facts regarding TES:V. Discussion over requested features does not belong here.

In regard to the MMO; the question currently being discussed in this thread is if the MMO will have an impact on TES:V's development. As tantalizing as it may be to cut in and speculate about the MMO, that discussion as well does not belong here.

You can discuss TES:V but not the MMO except as it might relate to an announcement of TES:V a single player game. All MMO discussion belongs in the MMO thread.

This thread is to speculate about when and if TESV the single player game might be released. The MMO thread can be for speculation about when and if a MMO TES will come out. They are different or will be if both are released. The Novels are in their own thread for discussion.

They are clearly labeled.

And remember that we are even talking about two different teams of developers and two different companies. Bethesda Game Studios has not announced what big game they are working on but it has been confirmed it is not a MMO. ZeniMax Online is making a MMO title but we don't know what that is either. So for housekeeping here we need to keep MMO discussion in one thread and this Betheada TESV discussion in this one. And either one is merely speculation because there is nothing official about either one.

But to discuss both here would make a huge mess and only continue to confuse people. :)

:D Oh sweet! I didn't know that! I thought it was just a rumor.

Well then, that changes my perspective on everything completely... I thought people were speculating the MMO would be one to take the place of the next TES game...

And I'm not trying to create spam, and I understand that I was getting off-topic. Sorry.

God no. We were just speculating how the release of an MMO from Zenimax might affect the release/announcment of (presumably) TESV from Bethesda.

No, Bethesda is not pulling a bioware on us (bioware replacing KOTOR 3 with SWOR).

I thought it worked fine - there were just aspects related to mechanics I wasn't so keen on, which Bioware refined in later games.

Yup, digression over. The next Elder Scrolls game will be neither MMO nor Star Wars nor D&D.

If the past four are anything to go by, they'll be "a bit like the last one but a bit different".

Has that ESRB rating always been down there at the bottom of the forums like that? I remember it being there but I don't remember it saying Rated Pending to Mature. A pending rating usually indicates a game that has not yet been rated by the ESRB...hmmm..

RP should always be there, so, you know, they don't need to change it. :P

No, it has not always been there. I noticed it today because my scroll bar was longer than normal. It is a rather unsightly thing, isn't it?

It's actually pretty suspicious... Brink is still RP, but they don't actually have a part of the forum dedicated to it... so that may mean they will be adding a new section to the forums soon. It could be for Fallout: New Vegas, TESV, the MMO or a new game.

Both that and the ESRB Privacy Certified button bring you to the Privacy Policy page. Hmmm... seems unnecessary.

I know that, but they don't have an actual forum dedicated to it, just a redirecting link.

It just looks like am ESRB rating for the forum itself, not necessarily as indicative of a new game. Because this is a developer's site, it seems reasonable that at any time there could be found here game content that has yet to be rated by the ESRB - which explains why the seal below displays a range (RP-M) that includes 'rating pending'.

The ESRB icon includes the "RP" simply because there are specific areas of the forums dedicated to future titles. (Wet and Rogue Warrior just came out)

it's a legal thing. trust me.

man, we're grasping at straws for info here...

WET and Rogue Warrior are rated M. Brink, which we currently link through to Splash Damage's forums -- is "RP."

What about the other game, you know, that big new game you guys are working on? You know, the one that might go under upcoming titles in the near future? Huh? You know, the one everybody's been waiting for? Gotta a big, uh, big bunch of data on your hard drives? Gotta, gotta nice little engine you've working on there? Huh? You know, redoing the technology, making the world feel a little more real, a little more alien. You know, your big game you guys been working on. Working on, working on that for quite some time now? Huh? Yea, we were talking about that 4 years ago. Been working on that the whole time? Huh? Gotta a nice little main quest brewing there? Nice compelling story? Huh? Gotta obstacle for the player to overcome? Some friends become enemies, some enemies become friends? And at the end the player's character is richer from the experience? Huh?
