Cumulative Speculation related to TES V #17

Post » Tue Dec 08, 2009 12:23 am

What about the other game, you know, that big new game you guys are working on? You know, the one that might go under upcoming titles in the near future? Huh? You know, the one everybody's been waiting for? Gotta a big, uh, big bunch of data on your hard drives? Gotta, gotta nice little engine you've working on there? Huh? You know, redoing the technology, making the world feel a little more real, a little more alien. You know, your big game you guys been working on. Working on, working on that for quite some time now? Huh? Yea, we were talking about that 4 years ago. Been working on that the whole time? Huh? Gotta a nice little main quest brewing there? Nice compelling story? Huh? Gotta obstacle for the player to overcome? Some friends become enemies, some enemies become friends? And at the end the player's character is richer from the experience? Huh?

Calm down man, or they'll get suspicious and then the whole operation's gonna get called off!

He was making a joke using Family Guy. Stewie asks Brian similar questions about his supposed novel that he is supposedly writing, and as he asks them in the frantic manner, his voice gets squeakier, quieter, and faster.

Anyways, I hope we hear something as early as GDC and then get a full reveal at E3. But knowing Bethesda, we may not hear a peep until the summer.

I was joking too. Lol, I was talking about THE operation, not the game. :ninja:

I think in all the years I've been playing Elder Scrolls (I started with the release of Daggerfall) this is the lowest ebb ever. Back in the earlier days of the internet gamesas used to speculate themselves on what future games might entail, what might be featured etc... They would go so far as to extrapolate a few games into the future, such was their zeal for the Elder Scrolls! I'm not judging their new strategy one way or another, but dang, my Elder Scrolls interest has fallen to an extreme low-ebb since my play through of Oblivion, and a subsequest re-start heavily modded last year. Even though we waited six years between Daggerfall and Morrowind they released two Elder Scrolls based games in-between, and they were a far smaller company.

Like most of you I had Oblivion the day it hit the shelves and that seems like a long time ago. I think of myself as being really patient but since obviously there will be no March 2010 release (which would be four years between titles), and not even an announcement yet, I'm not sure where they're going with the series. I have to imagine, since this is the speculation thread, that they are going for the redefinition of CRPG, righting some past wrongs, and going for the juggular, and that is why we havn't had an announcement. Todd Howard's favorite RPG games are Ultima 6, and 7 and he was responsible for Morrowind, one of the best CRPG's ever. I have faith in their ability to completely melt our faces off with a game. Just wish there wasn't such a dearth of other good RPG titles coming out, and that we have an announcement soon so we can close this thread, and start one based on game-based speculation. Sorry for the ramble.

It's not really rambling, you do have some really good points. It looks like the widespread opinion is that the next TES will be face-melting Fuel Grade Awesome, but that we're all sick with anticipation despite having absolutely no information other than "at some point there will be a second book and at some other point there will be another game."

Yes, I agree. We're all at that point where we are anticipating it so badly we almost can't bear to keep up the vigil. Over at the Old Republic Website a few weeks ago word finally got out that the game wasn't going to be released until well into 2011. You could hear the air gushing out of the tires so to speak. I stopped going to the site because quite frankly who cares about a game that has been in development since 2006 and is still over a year away.

I'm just about at that point here. I really, really, really would love a new ES game, but I'm almost thinking it's way to far off to even bother thinking about. It seems like this is definitely the longest wait without hearing something. Like I mentioned before, even though there was six years between Daggerfall and Morrowind, they released ES-based games, and ran the website in a far more open way.

A good sign is that since we got into the new year the Bethesda Blog is all about TESting your knowledge and other TES related issues. Between late 2007 and late 2009 it was all about Fallout 3 and other irrelevant issues. The only time there was a reference to the TES series was when Pete Hines made the clarification that there will definitely be another Elder Scrolls game and that any MMO game should be expected only from Zenimax Online.

They are most definately rallying the troops with those "TESting your knowledge" things.

They're preparing us for something big, something epic. I can feel it in me bones!

Maybe they will have some sort of puzzle and needing to solve it we have to use all the knowledge of TES lore.......................

As far as work goes, I'm helping to make a freaking awesome video game, and that goes a long way.

I sure hope it's gonna be freaking awesome.

"We would like to apologize for last week's TESt question. It turns out that there is no answer currently available in the lore or games. The only way to find out the real answer is to buy TES V, coming this fall. *insert screenshots, videos, and previews that blow our minds*"

that statement was copied from the first post of this thread ( a mod posted it) so he/she cant be wrong :)

The first post of this thread has been updated with important and factual updates made by MEMBERS of the forum, not moderators. I myself witnessed the post in question in relation to the 200 years later thing. The mods simply copy and paste it into the first post so as to keep information flowing from thread to thread and let us have a sort of index of information so we won't repeat ourselves.

Todd Howard was responsible for Oblivion as well. He was responsible for both Morrowind and Oblivion, and both are amazing, so I believe that we won't be disappointed by TES V, however, one of the reasons we haven't heard anything about TES V yet is Fallout 3. Fallout 3 is in the equation, and a major game has never been released between TES games in the history of the series until Fallout 3 was released, but it has happened now and we are going to have to be patient.

Once again I have deleted posts that are off topic for this thread. Please don't post here except for speculation about release of TESV.

Good example of the updated Gamebryo render engine as implemented by http://vizerra.com.

This may give an indication as to how future TES games may look.

We have decided to have a new thread for this with a slightly different title in hopes folks will see and use this when they are speculating or asking the question when here. Thus I am closing this one and starting a new one here:
