Cumulative Speculation related to TES V

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 4:35 pm

Seeing as though Pete Hines said years ago that the development teams at Bethesda would divide into several groups, one of which was assigned to the next Elder Scrolls title, I'd be completely shocked if they weren't working on it in some capacity right now. That's not the only reason either. Let's be frank here. It's about $$$. They know where their bread is buttered. Fallout and Elder Scrolls. They can publish little niche titles that all they want. They can introduce shooters into the flooded shooter market all they want. But at the end of the day they're going to make bank on Elder Scrolls and Fallout. Period. They have also made statements in the not so distant past that gamesas has grown tremendously in the last few years and that they are capable of developing at least a few titles simultaneously. It'll be four years since the last Elder Scrolls this March. I would expect an announcement anytime from there onward.

Now, on the other hand, if they are planning on Elder Scrolls V to be a PC/Next-Gen console release, we're not getting a game until 2012 at the earliest. I would certainly hope that if that were their plans they would let us off the hook. 'Cuase that would be just cold man.

All this talk about bread and butter is making me hungry :liplick:

Now, to be fair, before Fallout 3 was announced, people probably said the same thing. And look what happened, Fallout 3 made just as much money as any TES game. Bethesda makes good games, we know that. Bethesda is more than capable of striking gold more than twice. Lets say TESV does come out around 2010. People will then expect Fallout 4 to come out next, and we'll be repeating the same song and dance all over again about how they "have" to release a Fallout title and they "have" to bank on TES and Fallout. The cycle of TES then Fallout then TES can't continue forever, that's all I'm saying.

And I'll say again, I firmly believe the next game will be TESV, I'm just making sure I'm not setting myself up for a massive disappointment if isn't.

As for the next-gen comment, both Microsoft and Sony has said they expect their current consoles to have 10 year lifespans, meaning we wont see a next gen console until 2014 or 2015. So I wouldn't worry about them waiting for the next generation of consoles.

I hear what you're saying, however Fallout was bound to be a hit because it was a classic license before Bethesda ever got their hands on it, and had a huge following already just waiting to be tapped. Creating original gold? That is far harder to come by. In the business world you want the known quantity, because you're going to get a very reliable, predictable cash flow from it. I think you're right about the next-boxes and PS4's. There has been relative silence about those and so they won't be out for a long, long time.

I just can't imagine sitting on a goldmine and not sending down miners to bring it up. Maybe I'm just a greedy SOB, but it just makes too much sense. I still think we'll have an announcement between March and Mid-Summer and be playing a new Elder Scrolls in Winter 2010-11.

Or, I could be wrong. Because none of us have any idea.

I agree :P

On a more serious note, I think it's immensely improbable for Beth to not be working on TES V, or to have been working on it at least since the release of FO3, if not since the release of OB.

So is it still against the rules to post the "scan" that was up a while ago that supposedly said TESV was being released in 2010?

I know it's against the rules to post copyright material, but since it's not officially/unofficially in the novel, how can it be copyrighted? Or how can we be sure it's even real?

Why? That seems to be pure speculation. I don't see why it's improbably that they haven't even begun working on TES V. It think that would be disappointing, and seems like a bad business decision to me. But companies have disappointed and made plenty of bad decisions in the past.

I don't think we can assing probability on anything other than hope right now.

Ad they did say don't expect one "soon":

Well Todd did say http://bethblog.com/index.php/2009/08/17/clarifying-about-next-elder-scrolls-game-mmo-etc/, after all. I'm confident that we'll see TESV after the second book is released, but I wouldn't be surprised if we saw another game first.

Well I don't think anyone of us expect to actually be playing an elder scrolls game in the next six to nine months as there has been no announcement. So obviously what he said is true, don't expect a game 'soon.' I think most of us would just like confirmation in the next couple months that there will be another game to look forward to.

Of course it's speculation, look at the name of the thread.

But it is based on something: patterns.

After DF, the devs split into two teams, one worked on RG and BS, while the other worked on MW

After MW, the devs split into two teams, one two work on expansions, and one two work on OB

After OB the devs split into three teams, one two work on FO3, one to work on DLC/'Expansions, and one two work on "Our next big title"

Daggerfall - 1996
Morrowind - 2002
Oblivion - 2006

Six and four years between them, with some "sidegames" like Redguard and expansions inbetween. I wouldn't worry about TES V too much unless it was nearing the end of 2012, myself.

There was only the six year interval between Daggerfall and Morrowind because Bethesda lost lots of money from Daggerfall by not making enough profit, it got bad reviews because it was really buggy.

I played Daggerfall when it came out back then and I remember the store clerks saying it was an awesome, awesome game, but buggy as hell. I also remember reading somewhere in the last year about how it almost ended the company, and it was Morrowind that saved Bethesda from financial ruin.

That must be a year old now? I doubt they had the graphical side of the game together by that point to produce screenshots, especially not of that quality. Besides, it seems pretty clear it's just a photograph with heavy HDR applied to it.

Possible announcement dates for TES:V (or whatever it is they're working on):
VGAs in two days time (12th December)
4 year anniversary of Oblivion in March
Alongside the release of the second novel (no date yet)
E3 2010 in June

Those seem to be the milestones, but it's all up in the air right now. Until we get another vague quote in a random interview again... we've got nothing much worth speculating over any more. Unless we're ok with repeating ourselves? I heard Paul Oughton said there would be a new TES game in 2010!!!1!!1!one

Guys, if they aren't working on ESV, what are they working on?? Another Fallout? Nope. Another Prey, which was recently trademarked by Zenimax? Nope, as that would probably go to id and it was recently trademarked, meaning they didn't start working on it a long time ago. The only other option, is ESV and a completely new title. Which one do you really think it is? ESV, of course.

I wouldn't believe that was a picture of Crysis 5 running on a video card from 2015, let alone a picture of TES V.

I see. These could also be possible for Zenimax Online I'm sure, as well as published games.

Under the trademark for "Hunter: The Demon's Forge," it is listed as "Entertainment services, namely, providing on-line interactive computer games and providing information to electronic computer games via the internet."

However, Deathmark is listed as "Computer game software for use with computers and video game consoles; downloadable computer game software offered via the internet and wireless devices."

So, personally, I find Deathmark more worrisome than Hunter: The Demon's Forge.

Hi there!

Here's my point of view:

That's very clear, for me, that they are working on TESV because:

1) They have trademarked Skyrim in late 2006, so in my opinion, when you choose the name of a game, you know more or less what's the story of the game and what's the background because, in that case, you know where the game will take place. So they've worked on it yet before they have trademarked Skyrim.

2)For the "Deathmark" trademark, I have an idea: in my opinion, that's, maybe, a subtitle of the licence "Prey" because of that http://www.boliven.com/trademark/77820738 and that http://www.boliven.com/trademark/77818116

Look at the dates in the bottom of the page: "Deathmark" and "Prey" have been approved for PUB exactly the same day. Maybe it is a coincidence, but maybe not... that's just a feeling...

Exactly. They can't be working on new IP because they already did that with fallout (or at least ressurected old IP). Its TES's turn. For all I care, they can have a portion of their time working on new IP as long as TESV is first priority.

Yup people are really beginning to get fed up with waiting for this game. I think we just need to be patient...

Yeah.

Maybe they're publishing books about TES in an effort to get your face off the screen and into some literature ^_^ Take the favor.
