Curiosity of Fallout 4 announcments and more at E3 2015

Post » Tue Dec 01, 2015 9:38 am

Just a little bit curious about this.

I know Bethesda Softworks and Bethesda Game Studios do not do remasters of their old video games (Yet). I see so many people asking for Fallout 3 with all of it's DLC's and Fallout: New Vegas with all of it's DLC's remastered for PC, PlayStation 4 (PS4), and Xbox One. Not on these Bethesda Softworks forums, but on a lot of video game journalist websites.

What if after the Fallout 4 announcements Todd Howard says on stage we have 1 final Fallout announcement for all of our Fallout fans. Fallout 3 remastered and Fallout: New Vegas remastered available for purchase in August 2015.

One reason I play on PC, I never have to worry about the platform changing so I can play the old games. Just the OS....

I doubt enough people would buy it to justify the millions and millions they would have to spend to do this. Maybe now that consoles are PCs under the hood, the next gen consoles will not have an issue running this gens games.

It's not like we can swap out CPUs and GPUs though to match the needs. Perhaps a PC under the hood but it's completely static while a PC can be upgraded at will.

Edit: Was just a reply to CCNA, not an indicator that I want a remastered game. I'd prefer they spend resources on new games than giving me something I already bought twice.

Too soon to be remastered. I wouldn't buy.

Heck, I wouldn't even buy Morrowind remastered unless it's only graphically enhanced and all the game mechanics are left intact.

There is 1 problem with both of the PC versions of Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas. They have no 64-bit .exe, which is needed badly especially since it's 2015 and most if not all PC versions of video games being released for sale today on PC have 64-bit .exe.

I'm willing to bet that the PC version of Fallout 4 will be 64-bit with a 64-bit .exe. I think 32-bit will be unsupported.

Just out of curiosity, why would I want a remastered game?

I still play Fallout 3 and NV (PC). Don't really need a 'remaster'.

If you don't want to purchase a remastered version of a video game then don't. People are not forcing you. I myself don't care about remastered video games at all. If at least the PC versions of the video games get remastered and get support for a 64-bit .exe then good. So you can vote I don't care.

It's pretty much quaranteed to have 64-bit exe since PS4 and X1 are 64-bit.

Besides, 32-bit OS has been a shrinking minority for years now. Ditching 32-bit support should've been done long, long ago already.

Bethsda Game Studios should of started supporting 64-bit .exe not just 64-bit Windows Operating Systems (OS') starting with The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion in 2006. Windows with 64-bit has existed since 2005 with Windows XP.

Even then though, does this justify spending millions and halting development of newer games to just remaster something people have already played? I don't really know, people would buy it, but it would never sell as well as a new title would.

I do understand where you're coming from though. I'm not very savvy with this stuff, but is it possible to patch a game to run on 64-bit systems? Wait.. My computers are both 64-bit systems and I've been running New Vegas and Fallout 3 just fine..

I really don't think it costs millions of dollars (USD) to spend on remastering the 2 old Fallout video games.

Last time I heard that porting and remastering old video games to new consoles or PC's to have upgraded to 64-bit for .exe's and all that stuff only costs $500,000 dollars (USD).

So Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas to get remastered should cost a total of $1 million dollars (USD). Will Bethesda Softworks and Bethesda Game Studios ever earn that money back? I have no idea.

Also just because you are running the PC versions of Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas on 64-bit WIndows or computer that have 64-bit CPU's and all. Both the PC versions of Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas can use support for 64-bit .exe's this would help greatly for modding allowing much more intense modding to be done by PC gamers who are modders.

Apologies. I figured you meant like a remaster like every other developer has been doing where they put the game on an improved engine and change all the graphics, etc. You know, like the Halo MCC. If you're just changing it to a 64-bit then it would be considerably cheaper, but I'm also sure there would be quite a bit of outrage to resell the game with such minimal work done on it (unless they sold it dirt cheap).

If it's only $1,000,000? They'd only have to sell 50,000 copies at $20 to break even. Very easy to make money on that if it only costed $1mil

Can you elaborate? Yes I can run those games on my 64-bit Windows on a 64-bit CPU.. but..?

How can I explain better than what I explained? I have no idea how to explain any better.

A 64-bit .exe will allow greater modding as in you can have more than 250 mods you can have 1,000 mods or even 50,000 mods. The 64-bit .exe should allow for more advanced Artificial Intelligence (A.I.) to be developed for NPC's by PC gamers who are both modders and programmers. There is more I can explain, but you get the point now right? Also 64-bit is not limited to 3GB of RAM or 4GB of RAM.

Depends on how exactly they are remastered.

I mean, I play on PC so if all they do is upgrade the graphics and patch out the bugs then I won't bother with it because I can get graphical mods and unofficial patches through Nexus. Now if they on the other hand were to remaster them and along with the polish to the graphics and ironing out the bugs and glitches they also clean up the game a bit and help flesh it out then yeah, I might consider buying it.

Like if they retconned the NPC who talked about Megaton's backstory which is completely absurd and said that the remastered version is now canon? Then yeah, that'd be pretty damn sweet. If they added more stuff to Megaton to help make sense of it, such as a garden, a hydroponic farm and giving the generic NPC's a couple of lines that indicate that they actually 'do' something rather than just loiter around then that'd be pretty damn good. If one of the bigger places which makes money in Megaton was owned by someone in Tenpenny Tower then that'd be even better. Yknow, flesh out the game and call it canon.

Now that I'd buy. But otherwise I can't see the point to it really. It's not like Fallout 3 and FNV ain't working on the PC, and I doubt they'd need to remaster either for Xbox One or PS4 when they can just port them. And I'd only buy it if it was reasonably priced considering that they 'are' selling the same game I already own 2 copies of, (3 for FNV).

Then again, I don't see why they couldn't just release this as a free content upgrade for PC users.

No I meant elaborate on the last sentence I quoted.. You started it off and then kind of deviated to a different point. I agreed with the beginning part, but I was trying to understand the last part.

Also I tried sending you a PM to avoid post clutter and apologize for a misunderstanding in the other thread, but your mail is full I think.

What is there to remaster? They look fine and play fine on the PC for the most part.

And I only play games on the PC. The last console I bought was a Sega Genesis.

Bethesda Game Studios can add more particles. Some more graphical settings. Add support for a 64-bit .exe and a whole lot more of other stuff.

If they were going to remaster/improve anything, Bethsda woud have done it with The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, (and maybe Morrowwind), those would make money. FO3 and FONV run just fine and most people haven't played an unmodded version of those games in years.

Making the game 64-bit isn't just a quick patch job. It is a rewrite of some fundamental parts of the engine, so at that point they may as well not bother and just build a new game from scratch. You know. Like Fallout 4.

Remastering tends to be something companies do for considerably older games. The Fallout series is too recent - Morrowind is more realistic, and would sell a shedload of copies (modders have and are demonstrating how nice the game can look with some love, despite it's age). Yet still I don't think they're interested in doing that; Bethesda seems to be more interested in the creation of new games, be it entirely new series of games or sequels/prequels of existing games, over the release of games everyone has already played before, most likely to death.
