Curious About Life In The 50's and 60's?

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 5:45 am

I've been an avid watcher of the television series "Mad Men" on HBO for quite a while now, but for those of you interested in seeing what life was like during the 1950's and 1960's ( approximately the same style and period of time- although not the year- in which the bombs fell in the Fallout universe ), you'd be hard pressed to find a better recreation than what is provided by the television show.

Just thought I would share that little tidbit with you all. :)
Cheers!

The bombs fell in 2077, I think.

Thanks for not reading closely. I SAID not the year that the bombs fell, but the era/period that society was living in when armageddon struck. Then again, this is a public forum and I expect little more from the average poster. :(

Nobody was being contrary, it was just a misreading. Don't have a hissy fit. That is a funny show though. I liked when the young executive's dad died in the plane crash.

Hmm according to the star when he was on SNL, it's not on HBO but rather AMC or something like that. You sure it's HBO?

I love the 50s era-like setting to this game. Makes it original and gives it a certain nostalgic feel.

Also shows a sharp contrast when conjuring up images of a time when good moral values and displaying good etiquette were a sign of distinction, and then the realization of the raw, harsh reality of the post-apocalyptic world with every survivor falling back upon their basic animal instincts in order to live.

Busted! Someone's torrenting Mad Men! Either that or HBO is pirating it from AMC

Oh how I remember the fun that we had with a tank of gas, a bottle of wine....and the Drive-In movie theatre. Drive-In restaurants were very common. I saw the Beatles and the Stones premiere on the Ed Sullivan show as a young kid. That's when things really changed. To have been a teenager in the 50's would have been something, but I'm not that old. Most folks don't really understand that people (advlts) really were afraid during the Cold War. The very idea of the sheer possibility of Mutually Assured Destruction.
It, the fear, I am told was a very real thing in the US. People really did build underground bunkers.

I still wonder how did those suits and hats back then go out of style? So much more style than anything today.
