Curious query about the Vampire Dawnguard DLC

The Vampires mention Molag Bal, which you can encounter in Markarth. The vampires in Volkihar will tell you that an encounter with Molag Bal turns you into a pureblood vampire just like the first vampires. Yet, if you encountered Molag in the Markarth quest before the vampires in the dawnguard story like, why are you not a pureblood vampire? Shouldn't you have been turned into one more pure perhaps than even Lord Harkan since your contact was recent and not in some past family tree? Or was Lord Harkan, Serenna, and Valerica in contact with Molag Bal? It just seems a bit like, someone at Bethesda forgot prior vanilla quests and how they might effect the dlc story lines.

They aren't turned just by meeting him. You see the ritual to turn you into a pure blood vampire, ore in serana's case "daughter of coldharbour" is really degrading. You see, he, umm, raqes your character.

I rather thought it was Harkon who does that ("few can withstand my...embrace" or words to that effect.) But yes, that. Also, Harkon, Valerica and Serana *did* get the "gift" direct from Molag Bal, through the same sort of process, as you learn from Serana, I believe.

It's a ritual performed on females. Those that survive are turned into pure bred vampires.the ones that don't, well.....
