A curious thought on....

Post » Thu Sep 09, 2010 7:23 am

Well, the thought came to mind when I saw all the complaints about 'WHY THEY NO TALK ABOUT BOS'.

If you played Fallout and Fallout 2, you could pretty much walk through them without so much as even hearing about them, let alone encountering them, however, if you encountered the Brotherhood of Steel and decided to be their gimp and do some obnoxious task they apparently cant do what one man can apparently can, they give you a suit of their armor and access to their tech.

Now, my question is, with this style of system of 'you may never even see them' in New Vegas, can we be expected to do some other gloriously difficult task for good tech from them?

(I'm only omitting F3 from this post since Eastern BoS are required visits)

if that was how they played in the first two, then this will probably follow the same pattern. Since it's a wild-west/tribal type scenario, I don't suppose a big suit of power armour will come easy, or early in the game.

I wouldnt doubt it. T51-b has always been hard to get, IMO F3s was the hardest due to all the trekking involved to nab it :cryvaultboy:

I'm insanely curious about it myself. I, personally, can't wait to find their base and wreck their stuff. I want some T-51b for those rainy days when Stealth is useless.

Or, well, those suicide missions when I accompany AIs into battle.

It maye be a rumour, but I read somewhere you can get those surgeries (but I can't recall the source and it MAY be innacurate).

In Fallout 2, surgeries were replaced with those modules to boost certian stats.

If I remember correctly those modules were basically hardware plugin's which were single use units to allow an autodoc unit to perform the surgery required for the stat boost, or at least that is how I interpreted the situation with them.

There's no other way TO interpret it since the ZAX inside the base explains that is what they do.

Fallout 2's was WAY easier to get. All you have to do is pretty much literally walk into a base and get the vertibird plans, which is easy peasy, and then let the BoS copy them, it's so easy to do. Also, theres only 2 suits of T-51b in Fallout 3.

Without O:A, I thought it was harder to get T-51b in Fallout 3 than Fallout 1. In Fallout 1, all I did was kill some mercs(IIRC) to save the Initiate, and got a nice set of T-51b. Not that hard.

One of the articles I read mentioned implants... it didn't say anything else about it.. It was just mentioned along with magazines, books and other upgradeable items. I hope there are.. scattered around the wastes to find and then have installed.

I guess they're following the same pattern with the BOS being rather reclusive (well,t hese ain't the Capital Wasteland BOS) - and probably in smaller numbers than FO3. Suits me fine, anyway - I'll turn over every stone in the capital wasteland trying to find'em :D .

I disagree. Fallout 3 pretty much holds your hand, and not much effort is required to walk from location A to location B and convince someone to give you their key. Since everything scales to your level combat isn't really a concern, so it's merely a matter of putting time into traveling to each of the five required places and recovering the T-51b. It takes a longer time to complete the quest to get the T-51b in Fallout 3 because of this, but it's by no means more difficult to get. You have to be incredibly lazy to have any real difficulty with recovering the Fallout 3 T-51b.

In Fallout 1 the quests you have to do to get the T-51b aren't as extensive, but they're certainly difficult. Even the most direct route (rescuing the Initiate) involves a very difficult battle unless you're playing on the easiest difficulty. In Fallout 2 you will end up having to reload tons of times trying to get to Navarro to actually retrieve the vertibird plans, and even then you'll need a decent charisma and speech to get in without turning the entire base against you.

In some ways I think the Eastern BoS is/will be more powerful than whatever BoS we find in Vegas. The BoS wasn't doing all that great at the end of FO2, and since they never recruited locals to refill their ranks like the East BoS does, they're likely to be smaller in numbers. IMO we'll see a few good side quests involving BoS members and thats pretty much it. I doubt they'll be involved in the main questline much if at all.

I'm kind of burned out on PA after Fallout 3. The game was already pretty easy without it if you played it regularly, and with it the game felt more restricted to me because everytime I used a pistol I felt like it just didn't go with my big bulky suit. If there's any PA at all I hope it's far in the game and harder to get just to make it feel fresh and worthwhile.
