current-gen console skyrim mods (tech-wise) possiblenot?

Post » Wed Feb 03, 2016 4:38 pm

Just a random question for anyone's opinion: Do you think it'd be in the realm of possibility, however remote, to get Skyrim on the current consoles with mod support?

I know nothing about tech so nobody try to eat me, just asking a random question. I'm not talking odds of it happening. I mean if Beth wanted to, would it even be in the realm of do'ability?

I mean I know if Skyrim becomes backwards compatible (360 disk running through the simulated 360 on the XBO) that wouldn't be able to do it.

But, for example, if Beth 'remastered' Skyrim like lots of games do now to just give an old game a graphics buff, but for Skyrim do it for the sole purpose of getting Skyrim onto an XBO disk so it was running directly on the XBO and not through backwards compatible means... could that 'XBO Skyrim' theoretically be set up by Beth to take advantage of the same system FO4 will use to get mods to consoles? i.e. from mod sites like nexus over to Beth . net over to the XBO? would that even be possible or is it just tech-wise not in the cards?

Again, I was just curious about if it was possible at all tech-wise

It's possible. But pretty unlikely to happen.

I don't see why they would do that or why they would even entertain the idea. Besides, I'd rather them spend the time and resources developing the next installment to the series.

yeah that's what i figured. Didn't think it'd ever happen, just wanted to know if it was possible manufacturing wise

I wonder if it would be an easy thing to do/tack on, or a giant rework-from-the-ground-up ordeal, or somewhere in the middle

thanks for answering in the opposite way from se?or cinco too

Sure, it's possible. However why would they do that? Beth has never done remasters and that's a good thing, it means they are concentrating on new stuff rather than redoing the old. Besides with X1 backwards compatibility expanding constantly it is only a matter of time when Skyrim is included, significantly reducing the point of a remaster to pretty much nonexistent.

Mods on consoles also add a lot of complications. We know Fallout 4 is getting mod support on consoles but how it's implemented and limited it's going to be is still a mystery. We do know mods have to be approved by M$ and Sony before they can be downloaded. So you can forget any freedom what we on PC have. Additional issues are caused by compatibility between mods, load order (I wonder how this one is going to be solved), etc.

while unlikely, it would be possible if they ever did make a remaster..

it would be near impossible for them to do it if it was just the last gen version made backwards compatible (since backwards compatibility is emulation based)

If we're only talking graphics here, I played FO4 at a friend's house on his XBO and was sort of disappointed that it looked and felt exactly the same as FO3/NV. From a graphics perspective, the only thing they seem to have done was use finer textures, have farther draw distances, and have more environmental objects (grass patches, rocks, etc.). That's pretty much a graphical remaster. Everything else worked exactly the same (sloppy killcams, wonky NPC actions/movements, collision problems, etc.). Basically what I'm saying is, Beth has done a *remaster* before: FO4.

Hey, I wouldn't complain if they just improved the draw distance. There's nothing more immersion damaging then having trees pop up or an npc just fade from view in the mid distance or the more distant terrain looking like a jumble of shoe boxes. Don't get me started on the 'Frozen' waterfalls thing.

But what I would like even more than that is more photo realistic colour rendering. Although better than Oblivion....it still looks kinda watercolour hues to me. We live with it, but y'know.

This was an unwise thing to ask

Grrr... the frozen waterfalls... yucky... nothing spoils the view more. Don't get me wrong, I'd be all for a *remaster* with regard to graphics on one of the current gen consoles. In fact, I'm pointing out that it's not something that hasn't been done before by Beth using FO4 as an example.

FO4 wasn't a remaster, it was a new game running off a different engine..

a game being similar is not the same as being a remaster

As others have said, it's technically possible but very unlikely to happen.

Also, the hardware of the 360/PS3 would not support the same level of modding as a decent PC. Just not enough RAM.

For instance, the SKSE memory patch is not going to work on a 360/PS3 to allow block 1 to exceed 512 MB for the simple reason that those consoles don't have more than 512 MB of RAM to begin with, so you will hit both the block 1 and total memory limits much quicker on console than PC.

Out of memory errors are going to impose a strict limit of what mods could be used and what mods could be used together.

Things like increased draw distances and better graphics will also increase lag.

So while modding is technically possible, there is a limit to what you could actually do with such mods given the limits of the hardware. And you are going to hit that limit pretty darn quick.

FO4 is not a remaster.
