Current State of House Redoran

A bit late, but I have to nit-pick: About the bolded part, I get the feeling that you think the duels would somehow be more "honourable" than the assasinations, and that makes sense seen from a European-Western real world point of view, but in Morrowind, assasinations is the honourable way.

But among Redoran tradition, an opponent who yields may not be slain honorably.

I don't think the Empire would break the Armistice at all. In fact a weakened Empire needs armistices and treaties to survive. Say, if the Empire broke it's promises, what's to say all the other provinces wouldn't break their own promises to the Empire? There's a saying that helps here; don't throw stones if you live in a glass house.

Perhaps. I short sightedly forgot about the other provinces.

However, the Empire would be desperate to keep control of their resources. There is always the possibility of them offering the houses under the table support.

Yes, I think so, the Empire could never openly favor any one House on the battlefield though.

I don't know about this one,It would be wise for them to support one side over the other. And it is common knowledge that the East Empire Trading Company is in cohoots with the Hlaalu. All the houses and people know this if you have done the Hlaalu quests it becomes all the more apparant. There are precious rescources found in Morrowind that are not in Imperial capital. So I think they would for sure takes sides."good for the Empire, good for all"

You said so yourself! :P The Empire cannot take sides, but obviously, by proxy and trade the Empire can support it's own preferences. The Great Houses' saber rattling only comes into play once in a while.

Saber rattiling would have nothing to do with it if the houses went to war,it would be in the Empires interest to back a friendly house other than a house who hates them and backs the Tribunal.

The Houses did go to war, but it was the pro-Empire House against the rest of Morrowind.

O.K.I see what you are saying,I Think this argument could be made. The Empire would be out of control if all the houses were out to get each other. It would take time to stablize such an out right war, alot could happen in that time, such as getting bit.

I find this thread very interesting.

I usually play my characters as members of house Hlaalu since most of my chars tend to be loyal citizens of the Empire. I've always joined the legion first, and based upon my character stop advancing at certain ranks.

Since reading this thread though and reading the links provided I've decided to become a member of house Redoran, simply because I feel that my char, who is Knight of the Garland of the Legion at the moment, and a Nord to boot, would identify more with the Redoran way of life than the other houses.

I wonder if there are other such threads with regards to the other great houses.
