Cursor movement limited in menu screens

Post » Fri Feb 12, 2016 5:53 am

Cursor movement is limited in menu screens to top left quarter of the total screen, BUT it moves normally in-game. The cursor moves normally until it hits an "invisible barrier" about midway down and midway across the screen. Cursor is constrained to the upper left area of the screen that covers about 1/4th the entire menu screens. This occurs on the initial game start screen menu, the Pipboy screens (and sub-menu screens), as well as the menus on all benches. Particularly frustrating, I am unable to select any perk upgrades outside the limited area of cursor movement. This will limit my ability to play the game.

However during gameplay, the cursor works perfectly, traversing the entire screen. This issue is limited to Fallout 4, and I play many other titles with no issues.

Can anyone help me determine if this is game, graphics, monitor or mouse related? Drivers or setting?

Win7 64-bit

i5-3450

GTX 970 8Gb

Driver ver. 361.75

1920x1080 60Hz

Vizio 1080p LED TV display (HDMI)

I have reinstalled, verified all drivers are up to date, changed resolution settings many times to no avail. All suggestions are appreciated as I cannot play the game properly (cannot select perk upgrades outside the limited area.

Did it just start happening?

Search the \Steam\steamapps\common\Fallout 4\Data directory, look for a Fallout4.INI file. If present, rename it to Fallout.INI.old

If you're playing fullscreen, try switching to bordered window instead (or vice-versa). It sounds like the flash menus are misinterpreting screen resolution in one way or another.

I've had something similar happen both in Skyrim and Fallout.

That should be in the launcher's settings menu.

This works! Thanks, that's awesome but is there any way to correct it so I can play without bordered window? I suppose I could save the game before each level upgrade, load in windowed mode to select the perk then save and restart back without the bordered window. Just wondering why this game freaks out when my other games don't and whether you know of any fix. Thanks again!!!

Did you try selecting the "borderless" option that should be right beneath the "windowed" option?

I still have to run that way, as I said, for similar reasons. It looks pretty much the same as fullscreen but I would not be surprised if it had some other subtle effects.

Choose the Borderless option in the Launcher, you won't see the borders. Some people have better performance in Windowed mode, borderless or not, some have the same performance. So, you might be better off, or no worse running the game this way.
