Custom clothing and armor?

Why not put all that fabric, linen, fur, leather, skin, wool, yarn, etc. to some good use! Creating an item of clothing could be done in a way similar to creating your character. Here's a couple examples:

I wouldn't mind it but it's unlikely that this would be included in Skyrim.

Wow, that would be an awesome feature that I'd definitely put to good use. :vaultboy:

This sounds like the perfect subject for a crafting mod, not part of the basic game. I use Morrowind Crafting in almost every game, and I know what you mean, but I don't think it's all that important compared to getting decent dialog and factions, etc.

A nice idea, but requires a lot of developing, so I voted no.

They have confirmed smithing and crafting but not what you can do or how things work within those skills so for now we will just have to wait. Personally I see what the OP has written is rather impressive and for me a feature I would like even if it came as a MOD it would just give that extra bit of character customisation we are all after (on top of face paint and decals etc)

Yes - but I suspect it would end up looking like normal clothes or armour just in a different colour - in which case you could just go around dying your clothes which apart from Guild Wars I haven't done since Putt Putt went to the zoo

Of course everybody would like it if it could be added with a press of a button. The question is what you would like to remove from the game in order to have this.

I want to mix match different pieces and tint/dye them to look like it was a set to begin with.

I'd like it more if there were just a lot of different armor pieces so you can mix and match.

The thing is though, once developers get too detailed with how much "crafting" they implement, people will complain that it isn't even more in-depth than it already is. Make your own clothing, sure, sounds great on paper. Throw it in the game, then people will suddenly want to make their own shoes. Then they'll want to open up a clothing store and sell trinkets on the side. Then they'll want barber shops and custom hair cuts. Then they'll want to cook food and slave in a kitchen for hours on end to make frost troll stew flavoured with nirn root allspice. Then they'll want girlfriends or boyfriends and party dresses to go out raving with all the skooma addicts on the weekends for 3 day benders. Then they'll want to have pets and raise animals and sell them and train them and cuddle them.. and then all of a sudden we realize we're playing The Elder Scrolls, and NOT The Sims or Singles: Flirt Up Your Life.

There has to be a line drawn somewhere, and I'm just not sure such a high attention to detail in terms of souping up your armor and your cloaks or vests or leather chaps really fits into the game play. This isn't Pimp My Ride, it's Elder Scrolls, so when making an in-depth RPG you want to make sure you don't go over board with features that aren't 100% necessary. Will being able to make a silky blue vest with bear fur trim make me want to play Skyrim? No. Will making a leather coat with metal studs on it and a giant skull on the back make me feel more badass in a fantasy game throwing fireballs at mages? No, because once you give someone a leather coat, they want a Harley. Then they want to customize the bike. Then they want to make bike gangs and pillage towns... and ironically I'm sure I'm giving several of you in favour of this stuff some ridonkulous mod ideas.. :celebrate:

Anyhow.. I voted no because there is just no way you can implement so much customization without people complaining that they didnt bring it to the next level after that. I'm sure Bethesda will make the game along the happy medium range.. and make sure there's lots to do and spend time 'souping up' without turning the game into a medieval episode of MTV Cribs.

And in reference to the smithing and crafting they're implementing, I'm sure it's an incredibly simplified, streamlined feature. You start letting people trim their outfits and fray their pants and put studs on their sleeves, you end up having far too many textures and variations of textures that the design team would be spending too much time fooling around playing Mr. Dress Up with. Just my 2 cents.

I would like this to be in Skyrim.Yes it would use up some development time but not that much. What you have come up with seems easy enough to me,but what do I know, ive never made a game before. :teehee:

I wouldn't be to sure. There is smithing and crafting, so this is a possibility.

It is possible. I would like to see something like this, even if it is akin to fallout 3 crafting.
