Custom clothing and NPCs

So here's the problem, I downloaded a mod which ADDS new dresses to the game. I thought I'd go through and update some NPCs namely Trudy and a few others however when I close the geck and open it back up the custom clothes are removed from the inventory. This is only a problem for the GECK as if I open the mod and for example put the dress on Veronica or other companion they wear it fine. It seems to be a problem with the GECK and Add on clothes that aren't replacing another existing mesh for example I can put updated armor moded items on them all day long and it will stay on them but the minute I give them something that is completely new they won't keep it when the GECK is closed. Is there a way around this?

Are you loading two .esp? It sounds like you are, one .esp can not be a master to another you need to make the clothing mod a .esm first.
