(Custom) Controller Configurations ...

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 12:49 am

Sol's Xbox 360 controls:
RT = shoot
LT = aim
LB = sprint/SMART
RB = melee
X = action/use (give ammo, give health, interact, etc.)
B = grenade
Y = switch weapons
A = jump
LS = crouch
RS = buff self
Up = Objective wheel
Left, Right, Down = class abilities

i might switch my setup (change Y and LS) depending on how easily it might be to use SMART with crouch on the LS button then again this is theory i might find i like it totally diffrerent

RB to revive or health boost someone...............I already had my index finger on the so i move it up a few CM to do what I need and move it back down to prepare for a fight. Super easy.

That's what I meant. Sorry, should have clarified your RB buff is more helpful to Medics and Soldiers. For Ops and Engineers, I don't think one or the others matters much given the interaction/focus time required.

How about full Halo control
RT=Shoot
LT=Throw Grenade
LB=S.M.A.R.T
RB=Melee
LS=Move/Crouch <-- Is that possible?
RS=Aim
A=Jump
B=Interact or Crouch
Y=Switch weapon
X=Reload
D-pad=Switch abilities

But it is also a reload. If your like me you have to take your thumb off the RS which is your aim (and push down is melee or something else for you) which, even for that small amount of time, is incredibly important. Just saying but each to his own.

If I have to reload, I try to make sure I'm not in the middle of combat anyway (I have made it a habit to reload after the enemy in my sights is dead regardless). And in Brink, reloading takes longer than it does in Reach for "standard weapons" like SMGs and ARs. I can't fire anyway while I'm reloading in Reach, and in Brink, that will only interrupt the process and leave me even shorter on ammo than I need to defend myself with, so taking the thumb off the stick to reload isn't going to compromise my situation any more than it already was.

For me, RB is melee (answers both of your questions as to what is my RB and what is my melee, lol). That match makes sense to me in Halo 3 and Reach where in my usual zone of close-quarters combat relies on high look speed and being able to track the target circling around you while delivering the melee. In Brink, such tactics are foolhardy at best and idiotic at worst, but I like having the melee there better than grenades (I'd much rather hit the air with my shotgun butt than drop a grenade at the feet of a teammate or my own in the unlikely event of hitting RB unintentionally).

But yes, to each his own. We're learning from each other; this is a good thing.

After sleeping on it, I think this will be the first controls configuration I will try. Sorry Splash Damage, I won't be trying the default configuration first; but thank you Splash Damage for allowing fully customizable controls!

RT = shoot
LT = aim
LB = sprint/SMART
RB = melee
X = reload/action/use (give ammo, give health, interact, etc.)
B = grenade
Y = switch weapons
A = buff self (give self ammo, health, etc.)
LS = jump
RS = crouch
Up = Objective wheel
Left, Right, Down = class abilities

Benefits of this configuration:

#1 RB = melee is just where I am used to it playing BC2

#2 All ability-pip consuming activities are attached to buttons, X = buff others, A = self-buff, B = grenade. This means I shouldn't be using ability-pips accidentally. I like this.

#3 Both SMART actions, crouch and jump, are under my thumbs. I like having movement-related actions under my thumbs, so if I get excited and press too hard on RS I am not initiating a useless melee animation but rather a sometimes useful (and shorter) crouch animation; thus, I like how BC2 has LS = sprint and RS = crouch. However, truth be told, this is the choice I am most nervous about because Splash Damage defaults both actions to buttons. But it seems like my configuration would have the potential to work very well because I don't have to remove my thumbs from the sticks to execute any SMART-related actions.

#4 LB = sprint/SMART, just as Splash Damage suggest. Watch the following interview with Paul Wedgwood http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i3Ozpji0HYU&feature=player_embedded where he discusses why.

I'm curious, who here uses inverted, and on what axis? I use inverted on the y-axis.

My thoughts exactly, since you bring it up... I assume it will be Square as long as you don't have anything else available, like interactions. Might become a problem, like interact/scavenge weapon on BC2...

(if your near an objective) It could be if you quickly tap square you reload, then you HOLD square to interact like Smart. Tap l2 and you l run without activating SMART but hold it and youll activate SMART. I think this was a thread already ut does anyone know how long you can use SMART? like Crysis 2 with Energy or eternally?

(ps3) R3: if i move it up, i wanna look up, if i move it left, i wanna look left. so much simplar. And L3 i hope is full body movement. Not L3 is to aim left and right, R3 goes up and down. I hate that. L3 is for movement and R3 is for aiming and indicating where you want to go. sorry for the Rage

The functions of both sticks are the default, move with LS and look with RS. The configuration I describe above uses LS and RS to describe the clicks under the thumbsticks.

I do not use inverted anything, personally. When flying I like inverted-X.

Button Layout: 360

Movement (mainly for console people): left stick
Aim: right stick
Shoot: right trigger
ADS/Zoom: B
Throw Frag: right bumper
Jump: left bumper
Crouch: left trigger
Melee: right click (toggle on)
SMART: left click
Reload: X
Switch Weapons: Y
Lean: ? not sure if this is in or not
Ability 1: left d-pad
Ability 2: down d-pad
Ability 3: right d-pad
Menu: start
Score board: back

Leaves A for whatever is left.

this is my custom control scheme but ill more than likely use a pre-set. this custom control scheme is so i can use my left hand solely on using smart system, also this set up is not for using ADS alot.

Sounds basically what I am considering.

A: grenade
Up d pad self buff
Select: Mission screen

I am musing on switching jump and SMART however.

Hmm. Will we be able to map to the Select button? It certainly works *great* for spotting in BC2, and would be a good location for the Mission menu (it could be faster to access than up on D-pad). If the select button is not being used in the default setup, it would also enable you to put potentially put any action you wanted on B ... effectively giving you one extra button, as it were.
