Custom Maps: Who Plays Them?

Post » Wed Jul 20, 2011 2:55 pm

I'm just wondering if people are aware of the custom maps that are out there? I mean people were so anxiously awaiting the Sandbox3 for custom content for the games but then all the custom map servers are empty?

It's not so hard to follow a link to a download page and install a custom map. Sure an auto downloader would be more useful. But for now you gotta do it yourself. Do people find it too time consuming?

Sith Custom Unranked even has a page dedicated to the maps featured in its rotation with a preview image and link to download page for each one.

Here are the links on both sites:
http://www.gamesas.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=40&t=33434
http://www.crymod.com/viewtopic.php?f=126&t=69457&p=809711#p809711

Would people like me to make a "SiTH Custom Map Pack 2.0" featuring all the current maps on the server for easy install? It'd still be the same process you download the zip folder containg all the zip files of each map then you'd still have to follow the instructions on each page to install each one individually. :/

C'mon guys get jumping on the custom maps bandwagon! Who's in?

Making a good map takes a lot of development, play testing & balancing - in my experience, maps produced by randoms in their bedrooms often svck balls. That situation might have changed since the release of powerful and user friendly tools like Sandbox but I have yet to see a custom map that really makes me want to play.

Ok yeah, there a few really awesome maps coming out soon, that look realllly awesome so hopefully they'll spark some interest.
I'm talking about Killing House and Café, even warehouse and Alex's Steelmill version look awesome.

The current maps are still awesome though. Shipment is currently my favourite map in the whole of Crysis 2. If you havn't got that at least, then jeeze. It's intense. :P

Do the bonuses work on these maps? Also what modes work and can you play them as ranked matched?

Bpnuses do not work on the maps, modes work depending on the map depending on what the autohor sets up, and it has to be unranked to play custom maps, otherwise people would just make cheat maps.

it has to be unranked to play custom maps

Thats why people wont play them. People are too obsessed with seeing their profile numbers go up.

Well, after you hit 50 then I don't see any reason why not to play unranked games, and I would rather play a new and not so intricate map than any of the old ones. And besides, there are trees and islands only on custom maps.

Anyone wanna go populate Sith Unranked Custom Maps Only just now? :D

I think the main thing in the way of custom maps is no auto-download. It really needs to be dealt with or custom maps, even the good ones, can't flourish.

In Crysis wars there were heaps of awesome custom maps.
There were heaps of poo ones too.

I will be playing custom maps, I dont see no reason why people shouldnt, the game is about having fun!! Even though the custom maps are unranked its always nice to have a mess around on something new and of course play for fun rather than your rank.

I am currently working on a custom map myself and will be putting it up there once I think it is ready! Thinking about getting my own server too if it works out well but in answer to OP I'll be visiting your server soon :D

Well that's why the sith server is trying to keep the best custom maps organised. the 5 maps currently on our server are all pretty great and well made.

You should check them out here: http://www.crymod.com/viewtopic.php?f=126&t=69457

I installed a few custom maps. Or better described; I placed the Levels and Textures files in the right place. I had to 'install' Steelmill. When i tried to use them I got an error (at the point of switching to MP) saying the DLC couldn't be verified. And indeed the two DLC-packs which I bought from Crytek weren't visible in the filters list. The custom maps were visible and I even got on them to check them out..

Now, how to get my bought DLC back? I tried system-recovery to before installation of the custom maps but this left me with a black screen(???) Couldn't do NOTHING NADA!!?? I tried another system-recovery using the Windows-disc which only succeeded the SECOND TIME??

So now I'm happy to be back at the beginning. Cryteks DLC visible in the filters list but NO custom maps. I liked the way to install the new maps by copy pasting them to the right place. But I ain't NEVER gonna use an installer again to get one on my pc.

Does anybody have an idea what went wrong?? And which maps are save to use without f#ing my pc up? (Save as in; Installing by copy/pasting the files to the Levels- and Textures-location so I can remove them again if anything goes wrong)

All the maps featured here: https://secure.gamesas.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=40&t=33434&hilit=sith+server
are safe to download. Nothing should go wrong if you follow the instructions.

I tried to 'install' the ones that only needed to be pasted in the Levels/Textures-folders. This worked for Sith Forest, Shipment and Rooftop. Now the 'Bridge'-map is somewhat different cause it only needed to be pasted to the Levels-folder. Anyway that one is visible ingame too :)
The Lost in City-map I can't get to work. It just doesn't appear in the filters-list.

Now all i need is a manual way to install Steelmill cause I think the installer of that one made my original Crytek DLC disappear earlier.. And because the map looked pretty awesome, I do like to have it :) Do you know of an alternative way get this done??

Edit; AARGH!! Now the game says I don't have Sith Forest installed when I try to join?? It worked before and I followed instructions?

Ok man that is wierd also we dont have bridge on our server any more so you dont need that one, also did you follow the steel mill instructions? It says make a backup of your scripts.pak or something...

Sith forest should work if it doesnt you're gonna have to delte the old files and try again, sorry man, i'll restart the server so its on sith forest then you can try.

Here's something funny.. When I enter the server while there's HotelRooftop or Shipment, I can enter. When its on Sith Forest however I can NOT enter and I'm getting the message the map is not installed. When I enter while one of the two other maps are on and the Sith Forst comes next there's NO PROBLEM and I can get in the forest also????

would be very attractive and convenient if u can make like a .zip (or any other compressed package) with all the map files and specific instructions on how to installing them.
