[wipz] Custom Mesh Races

Post » Sat Sep 04, 2010 1:50 am

Alot of people around here know this simple fact: Oblivion doesnt support races with custom body meshes, abit with taking up a slot and having alot of compatibility issues.

The root of the problem:
The biggest problem is that all items that dont totally cover contain infomation about body in them, so to change the body mesh you would have to edit every other item mesh so that it would work. I thought back, "Wasnt it different in Morrowind?" where it was, items didnt cover over a body part, just went on over the top of it, sure it lead to some clipping issues, but it worked. Thats what I am to achieve, have the body so that it doesnt disappear when equipping items in a slot, and have the items contain no infomation about the body.

1. Isnt that alot of work and will end up being totally incompatiable with all the custom items?
Well at first, yes that it what I thought, but thanks to PacificMorrowind now all you have to do is run a pyffi script that will edit out all the body parts from items in your oblivion folders.

2. How do you stop the body from dissappearing?
By putting it in the tail slot and having 15 meshes that contains each combanation of Foot, Lowerbody, Upperbody and Hands (and if its a beast race with a tail, each mesh has the tail in it too so that doenst disspears). Im sorry if you use the tail slot for anyother mod, I have to use it for this so if you cant part with losing the tail slot, either get a patch made to mave it to another slot, or dont use this.

Why Im posting this:
The fact is I having been in the user-mods scene for over a year or more, I simply dont know what has been released, but I do have a list of things that I need;
- Looking for any race mods that include a custom tail mesh. Any race with a custom tail (or any mesh that uses the tail options) must have its own set of body meshes. (though they are just the defualt vanilla ones)
- I dont have, and never plan on having, body replacer mods. If anyone skilled with nifskope that uses/knows about the popular ones and wants to help, post here or PM me. What I need done is for each body replacer I need the 15 mesh set to be made for them. I'll provide you with a how-to guide.

Limitations:
Any new body mesh has to fit inside the current one, else it will clip. However doing stuff like using TalkieToaster Skeleton modifiers can make for new shapes. (im seriouly hoping one if made for the rreal agronain/khajitt legs).

Now to something worth looking at, pictures. i only have pictures of the skeleton race as that the only body mesh set Ive done so far.

Ah, excellent news. It's unfortunate it'll only work for races with custom bodyparts around the same size and shape as human ones or the clipping would get a bit extreme.
