Custom spell with scaling, need a little help

Post » Mon Mar 04, 2013 2:15 pm

Let me just start off by saying that I`m brand new to modding and I`m figuring out everything as I go along.

I'm trying to change how the spell Vampiric Drain works. So far I've changed the effect so it heals only half the damage done by adding another effect called PlayerVampireDamageHealth. I changed the overall damage done to make it a better spell while not being overpowered. I'd split the damage between PlayerVampireDamageHealth and PlayerVampireAbsorbHealthConcAimed to get this effect.

Now I`m trying to add scaling with destruction perks. I`m trying to do it through a separate perk I called VampireDestructionPerk1. The reason I`m doing it this way is so that mods that change the magic cost and magnitude by changing the perk trees won`t affect the damage on Vampiric Drain with my mod. I have 6 perk entries under this perk. 5 of them change the magnitude on the condition that the spell has the keyword MagicVampireDrain (which both PlayerVampireDamageHealth and PlayerVampireAbsorbHealthConcAimed have), and the additional requirement that you have a certain destruction perk - five entries for the five destruction perks. The sixth has the same keyword requirement, but only requires the novice destruction perk, and it reduces the cost of spells with the keyword MagicVampireDrain.

I did set priorities, the top priority being the cost reduction, then the master level magnitude scaling and so on. I`m not sure if setting the priority is needed, or if I did it right but it seemed like I would need to.

Then I went back into the effects PlayerVampireAbsorbHealthConcAimed and PlayerVampireDamageHealth and selected the perk I made, VampireDestructionPerk1 under ``Perks to Apply``.

It seemed like everything was done, and that the Vampiric Drain spell should now scale in magnitude with every Destruction perk as well as having the cost reduced, while not being under direct influence of the Destruction tree, so other mods don`t affect the spell. However I don`t think anything happened at all when I loaded the game. I`m not sure if the damage would update itself or not, but the damage and cost were the same as before I did any of the scaling changes.

If anyone has any ideas about what I did wrong, how to fix it, or if they would be so kind to download my mod and have a look, I`d really, really appreciate it. I will of course give credits to anyone who helps me get this working, as credit should be given as it is due.
