custom spells gone after exiting game

Post » Tue May 11, 2010 9:12 am

So i have started playing oblivion again after hearing the announcement of Skyrim. This time around i use some mods (couldnt figure that out the first time)

So i have:
Attributes +5, Crowded Roads, DLCShiveringIsles, Just about everything from Francesco, Unofficial patches for both Shivering isles and main game and finally the vampire fix.

My character is level 30 now and i have noyt started the main quest yet. I just entered Arcane University for the first time and wanted to make some spells. So i made a lot of spells befoe the weekend (several feather which i thought i could stack, restore attributes i lacked, and more powerful destruction spells then i had.

Somehow now they are all gone. I have tested it and reloading doesnt delete them but restarting the game does. Anyone knows how this is possible and how it can be avoided?

Oh BTW 2 other strange things i noted when playing which could be bugs??:
1. Shopowners sprint towards me when i enter a shop, really odd didnt happen when i started.
2. Loads of dead bandits have an invetory filled with callipers. Really odd.

This is FAR worse then i thought. I cant enchant items either!! I enchanted something, equiped it, exited the game and now the item has dissappeared.
This is not FUN at all!! I have a savegame obviously so i havent lost the item, but this basically means that i have to relay on computer generated stuff and cant enchant stuff myself.
Has to have something to do with my mods because when i first played the game i could enchant stuff and it wouldnt mysteriously dissappear after restarting the game.

Its a mod that was installed uncorrectly, atleast thats what it seems to suggest when you mention the calipers. Perhaps the modding forum would be the best place to ask this.

That's the http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Shivering:Reference_Bug. You need the latest official patch.

O i am afraid i have the latest official patch... I did install unofficial patches later though... Maybe that has to do with it?? Do i just uncheck them in the data options??
I'll try and see if that works.
Might be true because shopkeepers started running to me after installing the unofficial patch...

Do you have shivering isle installed? If so, you need the SI patch for your region.

I do. Which file do i need to install?? Like i said i have 1.2.0214 with SI no idea what that means.
Not being able to enchant is kind off gamebusting for me... Shopkeepers running at me and loot filled with callipers is just annoying...
Still will this patch work, i have never really been able to install an official patch i tried that before i reinstalled Shivering Isles?!

Old file not found errors can have several causes:

- You are using the wrong patch (US patch only works on US games, you may need a localised patch)
- You are trying to patch a version of that game that is already patched (GotY edition of the game)
- You have tampered with the files the patch patches (NO-DVD Crack or corrupted game files)

If you installed the v1.2.0416 Oblivion patch and you installed the Shivering Isles expansion pack then you do not need the Shivering Isles patch anymore. The expansion pack installer detects when the game is already updated and will not overwrite the patched Oblivion with the original unpatched Shivering Isles version of the game.

To fix this error you must first uninstall Oblivion and delete the game's folder (default location: C:\Program Files\Bethesda Softworks\Oblivion\). You will not lose your save games by doing this.

After uninstalling the game, reinstall in this order:

NON GOTY VERSION:
1. Oblivion (non GOTY Version)
2. The Shivering Isles (if you have it)
3. Install the v1.2.0416 patch for your version of the game (If you only have Oblivion get the Oblivion version of the patch, if you have the Shivering Isles, get the Shivering Isles version of the patch)
4. Unofficial Oblivion Patch
5. Unofficial Shivering Isles Patch (If you installed Shivering Isles)
6. Official DLC plugins (either Downloaded or The KOTN (Knights Of The Nine) disc.
7. Unofficial Official Mods Patch

GOTY VERSION
1. Disc 1 (Oblivion)
2. Disc 2 (Shivering Isles and KOTN) Updates Oblivion to current version, does NOT include any of the Official plug ins (DLC's)
3. Unofficial Oblivion Patch
4. Unofficial Shivering Isles Patch
5. Official DLC's (If you have them)
6. Unofficial Official Mods Patch

I STRONGLY RECOMMEND that you install the Unofficial Oblivion Patch, Unofficial Shivering Isles Patch (if you have the Shivering Isles) and the Unofficial Official Mods Patch (if you have any of the official DLC plugins).

Thanks a lot! It worked. Apparently i was trying to install Oblivion patch while i needed a SI one. Now it did update my game i didnt even have to reinstall..., i enchanted an item and its still there after restarting the game!!
I probably did some stuff wrong with mods. I had Frans long before i added unofficial patches for Obvlion AND SI. Now they are unchecked. Can i safely check them and will they have effect.
I thought you would get new stuff like a quest in Bruma bringing two lovers together or something which wasnt implemented? Didnt seem to work for me? Frankly i dont no if the unoffical patches worked properly. Will they work better now now that my version is the newest??

If you go to the Oblivion wiki you can usually find 'This bug is fixed by the unofficial patch) but it's hard for me to see if it truly worked. Do you guys know an easy way to check?

Well i played a litle, enchanting works again and shopkeepers dont run at me anymore.

As for the callipers though, they are sitll there. Only started a couple levels ago didnt really change anything in the game.
What seems to be related to it is that most NPC dont wear upper armor anymore. They are naked from the waist up, not the best protection i figure.
Might this have something to do with my level?? I mean their armor improved to like glass and now they passed that and they are naked instead?
How do i get this ok again? I have FRan's installed.

Do you have the Unofficial Oblivion Patch installed? 3.2.0 topped with the latest (v3.3.x)? The calipers, if they are already generated, won't just disappear. Try starting a new game with the UOP and your other plugins checked and see if the problem of the streaking NPCs persists.
