custom timescale messing up quests?

Post » Sun Jun 03, 2012 10:07 pm

I'm using a custom timescale of 20, so nothing too different than default's 30.

however, I've read custom timescales can cause some quests that assume timescale 30 to malfunction.

how common is that? I do agree that a slightly slower timescale improves the feel of the game, but if it can mess up quests it's a no-no.

also, it keeps me from being able to use diverse grasses, as their wind sway speed is geared for 30 and so they sway faster than the default ones, which looks horrible

There are 2 quests that don't work without timescale being 30. They're the painting quest with the trolls and the buying a house in anvil quest. Both have "doors" that don't open without it.

...and if there are two in vanilla, there could very well be more in some mods ( I think Lost Spires or Windfall mention it )

I guess it's for me from now on... time to re-add diverse grasses :D

damn now I'll have to reevaluate my respawn timers to go with the changed timescale

I believe they are fixed in UOP because recently I finished them both with timescale 6, no problems at all.

No, I had that also installed when I tested them last.

I know that both Kuertee's Auto-save and Time and TNO's Automatic Timescale will automatically reset the timescale to 30 for those quests.

 Hadn't known about that issue with those quests. Thanks for the pointers, Nephenee13.

I've been using a timescale of 10 forever and a day. Just recently replayed A Brush With Death experiencing no problem. Not using the Kuertee or TNO mods mentioned, so the UOP fixes seem to be working in my case.

@ Gekko64 If you use http://oblivion.nexusmods.com/mods/23783 (and there's no good reason not to  ) it adjusts grass sway to timescale.

of course I'm using it! the problem is that it doesn't seem to affect the diverse grasses. DG sway faster than vanilla grasses and it looks terrible

anyway I've just got my timescale back to 30 and readded diverse grasses so let's see how it goes :)

I use 10x too. No problem with Anvil or painted trolls. The only time I reset it to 30 is when I need time to go faster while I am waiting for a triggered event to happen (like waiting for the thieves to enter Nells, or Quill Weave to sneak behind the Anvil house for the first fighters guild quest).

The two vanilla quests harmed by timescale changes are handled by the UOP, so that's not an issue. Other quests in other mods, who knows. I don't think it was ever entirely understood why timescale hoses the two vanilla ones.

What version of the UOP fixed that?

http://baldurdash.org/TESOblivion/UOPFixList.html:

The player should no longer become stuck in The Painted World at the quest conclusion of A Brush With Death due to Rythe never opening the portal.

Similarly, Velwyn Benirus should no longer fail to open the Benirus Manor portal in Anvil at the conclusion of Where Spirits Have Lease.

Near the bottom of the page, they've been a part of the UOP since day 1.
