Custom weapon model issues, need help

Post » Thu Apr 08, 2010 1:15 pm

I have built a custom weapon in Blender, created a uv map. built a simple texture for it and also made a normal map in Gimp.
the problem i'm having is that the weapon appears in third person but not first person, also the weapon won't display in the inventory screen on the player.
The weapon also disappears when viewed from certain angles( although it seems like it only happens when it's lined up with certain other objects like actors)
Could this be because i added an alpha channel to the base texture? the normal map has no alpha channel.
the base texture does have mipmaps.

another weird issue is that the bounding box for my weapon appears off to the side of it rather then around it in tescs. this seems to be only a visual problem since the weapon attaches to my hand fine and works as expected in combat.
in blender there appears to be a small pink dot to the right of the model that i assume is supposed to be it's origin or center, but i can't move the pink dot.

the weapon does have a custom collision(used the cop out method of making a hull with a script)

so all in all the weapon physically works like it should, but visually it's hit or miss really..
i'll be uploading an esp, the model and it's two textures later if some one thinks they can help. i'd rather not have my
weapon floating around out there, at least not till it's done any ways... lol.

I will take a look at it when I get home today and let you know (unless someone comes and does it first).

-EDIT-

BTW, I downloaded it so if you want to take the link away for now you can.

i'll leave it up for now. i know what it looks like so if some one steals it then i'll know... lol. haven't seen any other giant meat cleaver weapons yet.... :D besides when it's done i'm gonna put it up and let others use it as a resource, maybe someone can make a better texture, then i can use that...

update: tried redoing the textures but no difference. i have noticed that the Cleaver disappears when it gets close to the edge of the field of vision.... it does appear in the inventory after all on my player i just had to zoom out to where it was fully in view.... i'm starting to wonder if it has to do with that little pink dot in blender... maybe the game sees that out of the FOV and stops rendering it....

Sent you a zip with it fixed to the email you specified. There were a few minor issues that may have caused it to behave so strangely. It should work fine now, and I included a text document saying what I did. If you don't get the email just let me know!

Dunno. Might be something with the physics settings. I didn't mess with those at all so I'm not sure. Glad it is working though!

ah, well they're what ever they are for a daedric waraxe then since i loaded it's nif as a size guide for mine, then i tried to use it's collision mask but i was having issues, so i took the cop out method of hulling it... lol any idea on where to find a good tut on making collision masks in blender?
