Cut-scene in multiplayer

Post » Sun May 01, 2011 10:10 pm

I know that their are supposed to be Cut-scenes as you advance through the missions. I just watched a video on G4 that had like a minute long cut-scene. Now I'm pretty sure that this is at the end of the mission but still. Are these going to be their every time you play.

One thing that would make the game annoying is every 5-10 minutes having to watch a cut-scene. Could ruin the immersion and game play in my opinion.

Example: heart pounding game play getting missions done. just getting into the grove SUPER focused... cut-scene for 30 seconds.

I don't know about you guys but after 1-2 weeks of play this could get very old and annoying. It's like going to Disneyland buying the fast pass then realizing 5000 other people got the fast pass and your behind them.

I've thought about this before too, I'm hoping that they have thought about this as well and have a way to work around how annoying it will be past the first day.

yeah, i see what you mean. A game gets REALLY awesome when you get on a roll and chop up everyone in ur way, but you cant do that with frequent interruptions

Obviously you missed the fact that these "cutscenes" are actually animated loading screens...

You only see the cutscenes during the parts of the game where games today have to load, such as between levels. This is actually a 150% awesome trade off for staring at a static screen, since loading is just a necessary part of gaming today. Its unavoidable, but they've managed to give it some informative and entertainment value, which we should all praise them for. Otherwise, we would all be standing idle the same amount of time anyways, but staring at something useless or static...

If they could just have a game instantly load, believe me they would. But were not there yet, so hang tight since i'm 100% sure it wont be far around the corner before we have the power to just have an entire game pre-loaded into memory. Were already having computers with RAM capacity exceeding the cumulative filesize of entire games...

I was also concerned about this a bit, after hearing about it. I mean sure it will be cool to see it at first and your character will be in the cutscene so maybe that will be interesting. To you know see him evolve as you change him but that will eventually grow stale as well. Perhaps their will be a vote to skip majority rules option. So at the end of the match say your watching the cutscene for the umpteenth time everyone or 5 out of 8 people decide to move on they can. Either that or perhaps an option to turn off cutscenes in the options. That way you can just sit in the lobby and enjoy some quiet and leave the watching and voting to your other teammates.

i dunno about it loading, but if it's so, then after the loading is done, you can skip it. if it isn't a loadscreen, then you can immediatly skip it.

but while the cinematic is playing and the rest of your team is watching it, you can adjust your loadouts and abilities(perhaps even change character)

I would much rather mess with load outs and customize while loading than watch a video over and over again.

in the newest dev diary when it shows the cut scene, look in the bottom right

EDIT: actually you dont even have to watch the vid, just go to brinkthegame.com and hit media, the first vid should be the new dev diary and the default picture for the video is that cut scene, look in the bottom right. Theres "show deployment menu" and "skip intro"

It's also a config break.

Short cutscenes mid mission, as you change from portion to portion.

Sure you might stay operative the whole time, but going from escort to protect, many people may want to change up their loadout, and this gives them time to do so.

Don't want to swap up or tired of the cutscene? Check your challenges/achievements, or just go get a bloody glass of water....

I highly highly doubt the break will be long mid-mission... and between missions it's probably just long enough to check round stats & manage your upgrades, or a quick trip to the bathroom or half a smoke or something

I'd rather get to know about the story then listen to some violent, poorly raised, idiotic, 12 year old scream on the mic, calling me a noob for kicking his ass. Although that can be satisfying.

I take it you have never tried doing things in games in the middle of loading, it is near impossible because of the lag. I wasn't aware it was during loading, that is a good idea, hopefully it works well.

The cut scenes don't have to be watched. I recall an interview stating that. i think it was in the E3G4 one with Adam. So you don't have to watch it, even if someone else does.

If you skip the vid I'm sure you can set up your character before the match starts.

There might even be the option to turn them off for good if you are lazy like me (phasing out and watching it until you realise you've seen it 100 times).

The solution is the custom match settings. I'm sure they have separate campaign (vids in game) and competition (no vids in game) modes.

After you have played one map a 100 times (and i'm not over exaggerating, 100x is no big deal) it is going to get annyoing. They should just put the screen shot of the map. It has worked in other games. And maybe a little tip box where there would be like a little tip about something. Team Fortress 2 has a ton of them. Specially since they recently did a update where they collected a lot of community ones. So there are like tons of those tips and they are really helpful actually.

I always thought the cutscenes were in campaign only.

That's a loading screen, they don't have the technology to get rid of that, they will still have it.

We are talking about the 30second waiting for players period after the game loads, that's when you watch a cinematic, during which time you can choose your class, etc.

Isn't cinematics during loading screens what we are talking about? The beginning posts seem to say that these are during loading screens when loading a new map.

Chaos did say that, but I am pretty sure that is wrong...

First off I remember an interview during which loading screens were in. Look at Container City, it has a loading screen.

Second, Every game I can think of has a loading screen. Halo, CoD, Gears, Alien Swarm, Team Fortress, Fear, Morrowind, Oblivion, Super Smash Brothers. Literally no exceptions even with small games like flash and java. Final Fantasy has loading screens to cinematics, then loading screens to gameplay, so it seems that adding an animated loading screen would more likely result in even more loading screens.

Sorry, I tend to read the last posts so I missed that you were mislead.

And I still could be wrong, but I don't think I am on this one.

[edit:] If loading screens didn't have to be static, you would think that more people would create videos during them, so I am fairly certain, but increasingly dubious that they don't have such a thing.
[edit2:] I don't need to find the interview as proof, Container City has a loading screen (http://www.brinkthegame.com/media/videos/?id=2), as for, "they could have added it later," not buying it.

Btw, I way over-anolyzed this one.

YOu sound right.

THe cinima is the wait period. I know in a interview he compared it to the 30 second wait for everyone to claim they are ready in Killzone 2. Nobody is ready so your force to wait those 30 seconds. so instead of sitting there waiting they give you a little story to watch if you want to wait or you can skip it and start playing.

I don't know if you can just skip it and start playing, but you can probably choose to skip it and instead prepare for the match. You know, choose your class, weapons, etcetera.

You can skip it, in the newest vid. dev. diary there is a snippet of cinematic with the words "skip intro" in the bottom right hand corner (http://www.brinkthegame.com/media/videos/?id=77 @ 16s). People like me just don't think we'll be up to pressing a button for each 10 minute map (We're gamers after all) :D
