Cut The Bullcrap Beth/Todd

Post » Tue May 17, 2011 2:20 am

What happened? Huh? In the new combat article at game informer todd says "I think if you look at our previous stuff I sometimes equate it to fighting with chopsticks".

Needless to say I got a sick feeling in my stomach and couldn't help but laugh. So todd "fighting with chopsticks" was "engaging, tactile, and visceral combat" five years ago? Tell me todd. Five years ago your key word for the "new and improved combat" was "visceral". That's all I read about was how "visceral" it was. Now five years later you try to sell me on your new combat system again by calling the old one "chopsticks".

I'm supposed to believe you now? Really? Really? What a bunch of crap. Someone explain this to me please so I don't have this sick feeling anymore.

Ok I will. The fighting system evolves with every game. The new and improved system makes the old one look bad. So the system that was awesome 5 years ago is now old and not that great. Also you complain just to complain.

It's called marketing. He's not going to say Oblivions system is better than Skyrims. They're making improvements, so naturally the new dynamic system makes Oblivion look aged, just like Oblivion made Morrowind look aged. It happens with every game. The last game gets dissed because people expect the game to be better, and it will be. It's not that hard to understand.

It's called marketing. Do you really think the people at Bethesda would be dumb enough to say that the combat in Oblivion svcked before release? Of course not.

This. The combat in Skyrim will be better. Just like Oblivion's was worlds better and more "visceral" than Morrowinds.

Eh, who am I kidding. Yeah, of course they're going to say Oblivion's combat was bad. They want people to believe Skyrim's will be better, which it will. :spotted owl:

I understand its marketing but you can't expect to sell me on this bullcrap. I don't expect them to say skyrims combat won't be better than oblivion but don't tell me now that the combat in oblivion is "chopsticks" when all I heard was "visceral" five years ago.

Why do you care? If anything it should make you excited about how awesome skyrim will be. These people say things to get people hyped up, that's it. Don't worry too much about it. :ahhh:

They will always compare combat to their last game. Compared to Morrowind's hit and miss combat, Oblivion's WAS visceral. And now compared to Skyrim, Oblivion's IS chopsticks.

I'm sure Todd thought it was visceral back then, and really, when compared to Morrowind, it was (my opinion, please don't kill me). Technology has improved, and now it's Oblivion's turn to feel the other edge of the blade.

The combat in Morrowind was like fighting by rolling dice. The combat in Oblivion was like fighting with chopsticks, which is more visceral than rolling dice.

Also, Todd is allowed to change his mind over the course of five years.

Yes, I agree, let′s not judge them for hyping the game up, I′m sure they will deliver and that it will be just like they say and show that it is.

when you make something new, especially when it is a continuation of something else you have done, most people will look back at that first thing they did and think it is totally crap. It's just human

5 years ago, with the limitations for the engine, it was as visceral as it was going to get. Now that they look back with the new tech they have they realized how silly it looks compared to what they can do now. People need to calm down and stop acting like they are entitled to everything. Just because it isn't up to the level of everything you imagine that they owe you, they don't owe you more than $60 worth of game and they always surpass that worth every time. So get over yourself.

Sigh, you seem to forget what was once top of the line years ago is small potatoes today. I remember back when Morrowind came out my mates and I were drooling over the insane amount of detail and the amazing combat. Technology changes, what was once "amazing" and "visceral" is now just plain sad. Besides if you think you could do better put your goat where your mouth is and if not then hold your tongue.

Snappity doggity. Personally, I liked Oblivion combat. And when you think about it, Oblivion's combat was visceral relative to Morrowind's. There's a good chance that if he's using the same descriptor, Skyrim's combat will be visceral compared to Oblivion.

Hear! Hear!

The article provides a fairly good list of what has been changed and added but it could really do without all the fanfare. I also kinda wonder how much of that is Todd in promotion mode.
