25% cut to use a guild store?!

Post » Tue Mar 18, 2014 4:13 am

This is seriously way too high! If I had my way our guildies wouldn't pay a dime to use the store, but 25%?! Please please please lower this ZOS (lower both taxes - the game one and the guild one) - by putting such a high premium on the guild store you're actively discouraging people from using it!

Edit: Wanted a clearer idea of other people's thoughts on this, personally as a guild master to a merchant guild I'm none too pleased about this tax. Added in a poll to get a fairer idea of the consensus :D

It's a money sink to control inflation. I'm sure they didn't pick this number on a whim; and if it doesn't quite work out the way they want it to, I'm certain they will change it.

I've yet to use the guild store system, do non members pay the same rate of tax as members?

I'm sure it is. But it's incredibly high. On the one hand they're after a player driven economy, on the other they're gimping the means with which we're supposed to build this economy.

For non-members this won't be an issue, the tax is on the selling side, not the buying side. So if I list an item for 1000 gold - 250 gold is taken off of the sale price, it's ridiculously extortionate.

I imagine most people will just move the cost to the buyer by selling it for 1250 gold instead then?

Never used an actual guildstore

Edit haha nvm and goodmorning..

Since 1250 would take 312.5 g I guess it wouldn't be that appealing to move the cost to the buyer after all

I like this system now I think about it

Can't you just set the price 25% higher than what you would have asked if there was no tax? Then sell your goods without that 25% extra if people contact you directly.

Actually now that i think about it maybe it was zenimaxes' intention all along. To promote more personal contact between crafters and buyers.

The house always gets a cut man and it's good this way, it helps control people using the market too much and flooding the market and it encourages people to use peer to peer :)

Have you ever been to EU? They have 22-25% VAT tax on any base price in the stores for vast majority of goods, not to mention excise and other stuff like that. Do not complain, live with. Standard tax on goods ;)

I guess the best deals will just come from WTS trade chats, since the seller can lower the price if there's no tax.

Standard in WOW is 10%, think this is standard in normal auctions too.

10 would be fairer imo. Although again, I think if they're promoting a player economy (and have even suggested merchant guilds to the player base) then this is just a punishing tax for those players embracing the ZOS way of doing things.

10 obviously was way too low in wow I think..I also think something should be in place for ridiculous prices that are way over top..perhaps 10 times the fee to place something for sale if the pricetag is unreasonably high

I think it's good.

Buying from a guild store is convenience, you'll be paying a bit more unless the seller doesn't care about profit or loss.

This makes it actually worth it to be a crafter and merchant not affiliated to the guildstores because you can offer cheaper prices or get better profit.

Gold sinks are easier to tune downwards than upwards.

If we're to be taxed, can we also have an option to put up items in the guild which have a tag on them that denotes what they can be bartered for?

100 Jute [Trade 100 Iron Ore].

No tax, and very ESO lore friendly.

If we are in need of more gold sinks, bring in new content such as houses and furnishings.

Do the right thing by the community! There ARE non-punishing ways to fight inflation =)

I personally never got a chance to look at it but after reading this post does that 25% line the guild coffers at all ?

I don't see it as an issue. I mean, you set the price to start with.

And whatever you set that price at, you lose a quarter of the value when you make the sale

His or her point still stands. If you want to make 7,500, set the price at 10,000.

Yes think that 25% is maybe just a bit too much if you want about 1000 from the item and add the taxes for the buyer to pay you need to ask 1340 and it goes even more wild when you start to sell something more expensive.

Figure out how much you want for your goods, then set the price in the guild store 25% higher. You get exactly as much as you originally wanted.

As a bonus, you get people contacting you directly about buying your goods personally from you avoiding the guild store, saving money. Which will allow you to build a customer base. The higher the store tax, the more motivation they will have for doing so.

For a dedicated crafter, it's a win/win, IMO.
