He said he'll take it if no one else does I believe; he's already leading the Imperial City, so it's not his only role. If he wants it though then I've got nothing against it.

Spartans often used spears with large round shields. Now.. *goes to modify his sheet*

Spears is the key word. Not pikes. Pikes can be as long as 20 feet or more; Makedonians used Sarissa pikes and Phillip II had to decrease the size of the shield so it could be strapped on. http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_IYGc_MWwkfw/ST8rDjwF72I/AAAAAAAAAe8/x002YZWADJQ/s400/211_hoplite_vs_sarissa.jpg And I think that reenactor's shield may be a bit larger, too (or maybe the hoplite is smaller, IIRC Aspis was from knee to chin), and it's still not as large as the Aspis or the Scutum.

Another thing to add to PFA: Nords are mostly barbarric. If they had military formation it would be basic, not a phalanx type unit. (I had to add something because I love Rome: Total War.)

If Nords were barbarian then Bend r'Mahk wouldn't have happened, nor the Nordic Empire. Their military is obviously organized enough and their society advanced enough to conquer good bits of land and beat both Bretons and Ra Gada, but it's most likely geared more towards shock troops and possibly schiltrons when faced with the cavalry-heavy Bretons in the west. I don't dispute their ability to use pikes, but their ability to carry scutum-esque shields along with pikes.

You can look up a similar discussion on whether the Nords are barbarian or not in the Timeline thread.

Phalanxes aren't too complicated though, Greek citizens could use it fairly well without too much training and phalanx warfare was fairly straightforward; so long as they stood on a flat place they'd be fine.

(P.S.: Boo vanilla RTW! :P)

If you blow the bridge, how'll you survive? No supplies can get in and I haven't seen any farms in Bravil and your food supplies will run dry extra quick due to your garrison (assuming your troops are inside). You'd be strangling yourself really. I don't think there's enough fish nearby to keep your population alive, let alone healthy.

Children, children, children; do you know nothing about guerrilla warfare? I will get my food from raiding/stealing/looting/pillaging. Almost like land pirates, except without the ridiculous clothing and corny remarks. My objective is to terrorize and cripple, for slow deaths are the new thing.

Skyrim had an empire, the First Empire of Man. And Bend r'Mahk was the war during which the Nords claimed the eastern-most Bretic and Ra Gada lands and shaping the map of Tamriel as it is today, with Dragonstar split between Nords and Ra Gada.

Particularly true for me when it's like TES and some mysterious forces are behind everything from the creation of the universe to the Emperor breaking wind.

Thanks. I guess what I meant was, they don't have an AP Daedra class in high school. But...... They do at the Arcane University! The only place in Oblivion that has teachers!

Some people just like to provoke.

Guys, seriously, we need to get down to the points.

Forrest, you have chitin. I isn't all that good.

Next, Ebony isn't that much better.

The Oblivion armor system is Bull.

I wish we could start the RP already. Ribbotson, are you constructing a sheet?

In Morrowind, chitin svcked. I don't know all too sure about ebony though, becuase I'm almost 100% sure that Bethesda knows what armor is the best, so I don't think that they would screw over thier own system. I could be wrong though.

Wooly, Armour isn't ment to make you invulnerable. Chitin is good protection as say arrows would glance off it or go straight through. healers could take care of the wound easily and the arrow remoed easily. Ebony on the other hand, depending the kind of arrow it would bounce off or go straight through and stick there. When wound is healed the arrow would just rip the injury open again. Considering that arrows are barbed, you'd have to take the armour off mid field and remove it that way. Similar to swords. Of course a massive cleave from a hammer or axe will dent and cause blunt force trauma. Light to medium armours are good for forces that rely on guerrilla tactics such as khajiiti, Argonian, Beserkers and Bosmer.

Every armour type and material has advantages and disadvantages.

If not to make you invulnerable, what the hell is armour for?

A fully armoured knight in good-quality plate armour is nigh invulnerable to most edged weapons (and arrows).
The downside is that a suit of good-quality plate armour costs a fortune, and is hard to make.

Nords do not use plate armour because the conditions in Skyrim don't allow it. It is too heavy and cumbersome to fight in in mountainous terrain.

Likewise, the Nords could not possibly field a large force of effective cavalry, as they can't raise, nor ride horses in the mountains.

Yup, warhammer or pike the armour :P Or use your speed against the weighted down knight and behead him.

Also in SKyrim the armour would stick, that and who would wear cold steel in such conditions!

On the other hand we've also not seen tax collectors, adequately sized cities, functional mines or anything that would remind of a functional economy.

I meant that Bravil didn't strike me as a place with much in the way of fertile land.

Don't choose armour based on its armour rating! What is it made of? What would that be good at doing? Believe it or not, the armour used by Mongolian archers could stop bullets, but not arrows.

Likewise, the Nords could not possibly field a large force of effective cavalry, as they can't raise, nor ride horses in the mountains.

Not the armoured knights that you're probably thinking of, but missile cavalry have been used in mountains across the world. I don't see the Nords using javelins, but they could still employ scouts.

Same with French Knight Armor...well, it could stop flintlock pistols anyways, but not those big ol' boomsticks that pirates carried around. (Can't remember the name at the moment).

Light to medium armours are good for forces that rely on guerrilla tactics such as khajiiti, Argonian, Beserkers and Bosmer.

Actually, Berserkers would wear almost no armour, so they could run faster. Berserkers were people that cared nothing about their own health, only that they chopped/sliced through their enemies as much as possible. Therefor, they would wear nearly no armour. However, I could be wrong, as different styles of Berserkers can have various things.
Likewise, the Nords could not possibly field a large force of effective cavalry, as they can't raise, nor ride horses in the mountains.

Horses of Skyrim, or so I believe, would be slow but stocky. They would not be running through flat plains their entire life; but over mountains, hills, and hard terrain. Therefor, the genes which they have been dealt would be for reliability and balance, not speed.

Character's nickname > all. I present thee the new Count of Skingrad, [censored] (being the law-abiding citizen I am I can't bypass the damn censor, but I think everyone can figure out what the nickname is, it's too similar to his name not to be obvious).

Name: Titus Aurelius Quincius
Alias/Nickname: [censored] (by old Legion comrades only, of course)
Race: Imperial
Gender: Male
Age: 43

Height: 6'1
Skin Tone: Tan
Hair Colour: Dark brown
Eye Colour: Brown
Significant Markings: A large scar going down from around the middle of his neck to his ribs, also some other, smaller scars on his arms and one slightly longer one on his left leg. Due to bad treatment he limps and the leg sometimes starts hurting badly.
Physique: Quite a bit more muscular than your average Imperial.

Other aesthetic details: Even though his age is starting to affect Titus' body, he still retains a legionnaire's build, not all that surprising since he still engages in training with his men. His facial features are not the most attractive ? large, curved nose, fat lips, small eyes; they're not helped much by his growing beard, either, which covers most of his neck.

Equipment/Pockets/Pouch: A military canteen with water mixed with various painkiller herbs against the pain in his leg.

What you are good at: Titus, being an-ex legionnaire, is a decent fighter; he can handle a sword and spear fairly well and is quite skilled at unarmed combat, too. His years in the Legion have also made him a disciplinarian and he drills his troops with great fervour. He's also a good organizer, being capable of organizing supplies, planning march routes and the like.
What you are bad at: He's not used to tactical planning, since that was always handled by the higher-ups; he's also not an excellent public speaker and doesn't socialize frequently with people other than soldiers, leading him to being rather distant from the rest of his city.

Weapons: Imperial Legion steel broadsword with a silver-trimmed handle to denote his (past) rank.
Armour/Clothing: Despite being a Count now, Titus still dresses up like he's expecting to head off to war any day. Usually he wears a white shirt with slightly puffed sleeves decorated with golden lacing; over it a steel cuirass, trimmed with silver by the edges and a chainmail shirt that reaches nearly to his knees and elbows. His pants are black, very slightly puffed, with a bit of silver trim. Instead of shoes he wears knee high leather boots with steel plates sewn onto the front for protection.
Miscellaneous: An old pipe and some tobacco

Mentality/Mental description: An army man, Titus is used to long marching and fighting; he's spilled his share of blood during his years and still misses those days. He doesn't like being the Count of Skingrad very much; however, he sees this as a good chance to display his capabilities to the higher-ups and get reassigned into the army in a higher position. He's not familiar with the way citizens think and is rather inattentive towards them; his soldiers, however, he loves as if they were his own children, for which reason Titus finds himself loved by the soldiery; he responds with acting as if he was a rank-and-file soldier himself, marching alongside his men and eating the same food.

Short Biography: Born to a middle class family in the Imperial City, Titus spent his early life rather well; he was taught to read and write Cyrodiilic and at 16 his father, an ex-officer of the army himself, had him sign up into the army. That was where Titus spent most of his life; he climbed the ranks rather swiftly, eventually becoming responsible for provisions and helping plot out suitable routes. He became the Count of Skingrad purely through luck ? the day Count Hassildor retired (given that he was a vampire and couldn't die) Titus was temporarily acting as the commander of the city's garrison. He got a temporary lift to the position of a regent for the Count until a new one would be chosen as Hassildor had no heirs; however the following trouble stopped that from happening. For sticking to the Empire in this time of need, Titus was awarded the official position of the Count of Skingrad.

Faction Sheet

Rank: Count
Faction Name: County of Skingrad
Troop Numbers: 12000

3500 Skingradian Arbalesters- The majority of Skingrad's citizens are well-off members of the middle class. Naturally, being the majority they form the majority of Skingrad's army. These men chose to arm themselves with arbalests, fearsome weapons that are relatively simple to use. Being quite rich, they can afford decent armour ? on their gambesons they wear steel briastplates; knee high leather boots, thick leather gloves and burgonet helmets finish the rest of their outfit. Each carries a pavise shield on his back for defence while reloading, as well as a sidearm of some sort, mostly shortswords.

3500 Citizen Halberdiers- Despite being (mostly, asides from the several hundred guards mixed in with them) militia troops they shouldn't be dismissed as nothing serious ? the citizens of Skingrad, although unwilling to march too far from their home, defend their city with much vigour. Their armour is similar to the arbalesters'; however being richer they use full cuirasses instead of briastplates and wear steel boots. Their primary weapon is a halberd; some carry sidearms should they not trust their skill with the weapon enough, although it is versatile enough for most the warriors not to use anything else.

500 Double Moons- Sons of the nobility of the city, they form the Count's personal guard. Their armour consists of chainmail hauberks, over which they wear surcoats with Skingrad's coat of arms; their limbs are protected by steel plate, also the Skingradian burgonet for a helmet. For weapons they use steel-tipped lances and steel bastard swords; both weapons have the coat of arms of Skingrad etched into them, marking them as standard issue weapons. Since their families are rich, they ride imported Bretic destriers to battle, though usually have a second horse of some sort for other occasions. The knights of Skingrad if there are any; they're easily the best the city has to offer. Each is accompanied by a squire and a groom (who doesn't fight).

500 Squires- Servants that accompany the Double Moons to battle. Their armaments vary however generally they're light cavalry, most commonly wearing a gambeson, steel boots and a helmet of some sort, mostly the Skingradian burgonet. They ride Skingrad's native Bay horses, fighting alongside the Freemen, using shorter spears, a buckler shield and a sidearm of some sort, mostly axes or maces.

2000 Merchant Militia- Skingrad lacks nobility who'd be willing to take to the field; merchants fill in the role of heavy cavalry in their stead. While their wealth can afford them excellent armour, they are not as ferocious in battle as the knights they mimic; however, while their charge is not as swift, it's also not as reckless, and each of them are willing to defend their city ?or at least their wealth- to the best of their ability. Their armour is nothing short of heavy ? gambesons, chainmail shirts reaching to the elbow and half-thigh, Cyrodiilic white plate steel cuirasses, boots and gauntlets, also the Skingradian burgonet helmet; some have their horses barded, though most don't. Their weapons are lances, used together with buckler shields, and sidearms, most frequently swords or axes.

1000 Freemen- Free farmers living around Skingrad and falling into the County's territory, they make for very swift light cavalry, excellent for scouting, ambushing and the like as there are few who could boast knowing the land around the city as well as they do. Mounted on Skingrad's native Bay horses, they wear gambesons, leather skullcaps and knee-high leather boots, also buckler shields. Their arms consist of a bundle of javelins, usually 7-9 and long-handled axes for sidearms.

1000 Woodsmen- Living in small shacks dotting the County, these grim men are those few who boast knowing Skingrad's surroundings better than the freemen, spending much time wandering around the woods, trying to fight back bits of the forest from the nature for their survival. Such a lifestyle has made them tough, however not rich ? they go to battle with a simple gambeson, some lucky few have leather boots as well. Their weapons are the tools with which they live, large axes that can cut a tree down as well as lop a head off. Brutal, they care for no rules of chivalry or ransoming nobles; the one to step into Skingrad with hostile intentions would be wise to beware of these men, since despite being relatively few, they can use the cover of night and forest as well as any Argonian.
