Cyrodillian Sinistry, for villainous players.

Post » Wed Sep 01, 2010 1:22 pm

Cyrodilian Sinistry

So this is a project I am working on which allows the player to becomme the badguy, through the process of the tutorial, the player may choose to kill Uriel Septim, and take an alternative way through the game, cutting off the main quest. Thus giving the player the ability to get a nice evil lair and new abilities. Alot of things will change aswell, cities will be destructable, new rival villains and some heroes will apear, the player will also be attacked on occassion, requiring black soul gems to exchange for guardians to defend his/her lair. It should not have a much of a collision with other mods, all it does is adding, rather than altering. But this will bring a new side to the gameplay, atleast once it's done.

Holy chumbuckets! It's the beta!:
http://filebeam.com/9906106657bf04375bae22c5172e52d1

It includes the character creation procress.

To do list, things with letters looking like they are trapped in a windtunnel is already done:

New character creation tutorial-thing.

Races.

Spells/abilities for races.

Items.

Lair. (Since the exteriour is done.)

Lair Functions.

Events.

NPCs.

Various other things of which I will be forced to add as I progress.

Features:

- A new open-ended mode.
- Evil Spells/Items.
- A new "currency".
- New and more tough justice.
- Various consequences.
- More evil people.
- Attackable enviroments (Not just cities, also Cloud Ruler Temple, various settlements, farms, inns, and other non-hostile landmarks.), by attackleable it means: Slaughter/burn people with undead minions, and also destroying the place.
- New Races (They will look good, but I shall not add any new meshes.)

FAQ:

Will this be hard to make?
No, not really, will take time, though, I won't mind if people lends a hand.

Lending a hand? That sounds incredebly dangerous and gruesome!
No, put down the bonesaw, it's a figure of speech, thing is: Due to that the enviroments will change when people attack them, you can feel free to design an aftermath of a location, and I will make a script for it to implement it
once the mod is done, even though as I said: It will take a while.

So you won't have like a team or something?
Well, if anyone is willing to join, then sure, I guess, even though first it will be a duo, then a trio, and after that, then it's a team!

What would be needed in order to join the team?
Well, basic scripting skills/level designing skills and such, this will be a simple mod if you look at the creation, since it will look good on paper, but it will mainly consist of basic scripting functions, since that's enough to make a nice mod.

When will it be ready?
Once the beta is published.

UFAQ:

What are hiccups, exactly?
A diaphragmatic irritation.

Who invented the moustache?
Norway.

That should be about it, I will soon have a small release ready that demostrates the character creation, any questions, suggestions or complaints, PM me.

I'm curious about this:

"Cutting off the main quest"

and

"adding not altering" thing.

What about mods that check the main quest?

Servant of the Dawn, Malevolent, Verona house bloodlines, and to a lesser/greater degree Integration... as well as possible others.

Would there be a possibility of being subtle? Say... killing the emperor and then blaming it on the assassin that usually kills him? (assuming he's not the one that recruits you)

So many "evil" organizations in Cyrodiil are horribly blatant about it... It'd be nice to have a subtle manipulating one for once. Kind of like the Blackwood company mod, or the majority of vampires in the game Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines... Who basically tell you to play all sides, makes everyone happy, and in the end when you're powerful enough, and high up enough THEN you decide who you want to back stab.

Okay, first off with the main quest part:
Simple script, once you choose your path, it "completes" the first main quest, since this is a mere alternative, you can still go in regularly.

And to the "evil" organisation:
First off, Blackwood is obviously a Blackwater reference, and those guys are just Michael Moore look-alikes with guns, as shown on this image:

Only because they can't tell a civilian apart from a terrorist during a gunfight dosn't make them evil, that just makes them the perfect government employee.

But ontopic:
The point is for the player to make his own evil tycoon, using demonic artifacts and necrology to buy minions, slaughter citizens and burn down entire cities (Yeah, will use a script similar to the one in 24 days, so the cities will actually be destroyed.).
But that's only opportunity number 1. There will be more subtle ways to do it aswell, like assassinating political targets to cause riots on the streets, going all Martin Luther on the place, things like that. Still a huge work in progress, but you can be
anything from a grown up Stewie Griffin, throwing melodramatic rants as you spend decades plotting unforseen doom, or just go Dr. Evil on the place and cause massive havoc using your own personal army, opportunities will be endless (again: in theory).

Ahh, okay

Not sure what you mean meant about Blackwood... I'm pretty sure it's just the province where the mercenaries came from, not any kind of reference, or play on words. I was referring to the fact that they're a legal organization that secretly does whatever they can to get money and power. In the game you only hear about one of those things that's "subtle", but inhttp://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=17448 you do many things, like: Kill 4 villagers and blame it on a troll in order to get an expensive contract to kill all the trolls(as opposed to killing that troll and getting paid a paltry sum by the villagers), there's also a few other situations where you betray the person that hired you in order to support a more wealthy alternative. There's one quest in particular where you agree to guard a prison transport, betray them, and then return later to kill the prisoners you freed after they get a price put on their heads by the town.
It had an interesting choices/consequence system in the form of money and power offset by bad PR for doing the shadier things... which makes for a very bloody ending.

Anyway the mod sounds good, I hope you get the help you need. Personally I'm only good at PR and beta-testing.

Due to the commotion, I'll post a beta once the lair is done, it won't take long due to this brilliant modder's reasource that I found. Which means I got a "plain" fortress, I just gotta evil it up. It won't be tied to a quest yet, just a random door in the market district, it's uhmm... Magic...

Right now I am working on the guardians, they can be bought, get killed, and also be ressurected. Only guardians I got so far are faceless black robed people with matching swords, I will add some skeletons and a few monsters to give it a more "dungeon" feel, so you get to be the lord of your own dungeon, by time I may add heroes/heroines who tries to make their way through it.

And to phoenix1213:

I see, so it's kinda like signing up to a republican party? I'll see what I can do, but I won't make it too political, since, well, people yell at me when I talk about politics ._.

I can hand you the alpha right now, it is far from done, but the character creation works flawlessly, in case you'd like to beta that out... Or, technically alpha it.

As a matter of fact, would you be interested in duplicating the cells/worldspaces of the cities and make ruined versions of them? Like with burning houses, dead people etc.

Maybe not all the cities, but maybe one or two, if you're interested. Or pherhaps if you'd like to make a nice script for killing various counts/countesses, so that the city riots/uproars once done.

But every time I see the title I keep thinking it's a mod for left-handed characters.

That's always so confusing since "left-handed" can be pointed at anything.

...So you mean it's for gay-communist-industrialists?

Any chance of incorporating the player's rank in in several factions into the mod? For example, when the player is the Listener of the DB, he could use DB assasins instead of hulking skeletons to murder political officials. Or using thieves after becoming the grey fox to erm approriate certain unique items for you.

I mean, monsters, skeletons and such are great for a full-scale invasion but stealthy characters or even the corruption of normally noble organizations would be a masterstroke of villainy.

It's not good forum etiquette to bump so often.

Seems like a nice idea, will be interesting to see it implemented.

Ooh! Sounds more and more interesting!

Only guardians I got so far are faceless black robed people with matching swords, I will add some skeletons and a few monsters to give it a more "dungeon" feel, so you get to be the lord of your own dungeon, by time I may add heroes/heroines who tries to make their way through it.

Having adventurers try to get through is a nice touch. Would it be 1 or 2 at a time, whole groups or both? (I'm hoping for both:D)

It's not good forum etiquette to bump so often.

??? It's been "bumped" twice (and not on the same day). How does that qualify as "often"? Vince H. needs feedback, and the best way to get that is to keep the thread visible. ;)

Yeah, well, people who does "etiquette" tends to be pretty lonley.

And today I haven't made much progress due to a tight schedule and... Uhm... *Covers newly bought MW2-cover with a piece of cloth* homework... Yes, homework...

Anyways, once I've managed to rehabilitate from my recent FPS-addiction, which usually lasts for twelve hours tops, I'll set up the beta. If anyone, like ValenDreth, wishes to help in any way, I won't object since I am still getting back into the whole Oblivion-deal.

I will try this baby out!

Edit 1...For awhile, I could not figure out how to open the musty door. But then I finally did. It is quite the ingenious way!

Edit 2...City Gate to Hangman's Hollow is out too far from the building wall...you can see a space behind it.

Edit 3...Once inside Hangman's Hollow, the waves of fog/rain looked kind of fake...could you redesign them better?

Edit 4...This is just my thought, but I get kind of disturbed when I see a whole bunch of dead people with ALL THE SAME ITEMS as loot. I am talking about the crusaders...maybe you could change some of the loot, so it is more unique. For instnace, give them different amount of objects, or slightly different equipment, or maybe different amount of gold.
