D2X-XL now with anaglyphic 3D rendering

Post » Sat Apr 04, 2009 3:12 am

Haven't posting here for quite a while, but D2X-XL has received anaglyphic 3D rendering which is quite a (visually) impressive feature, so I thought I'd tell everybody here about it, too. If you have a pair of red/cyan glasses at home you can jump right to my worklog (click the worklog log link on http://www.descent2.de, then click on "stereoscopic rendering") and view a few 3D screenshots there. Anyglyph 3D literally adds a new dimension to playing Descent. ;)

Hmm very interesting, this reminds me of an effect NVIDIA is using with their 3D Vision and what 3dfx used with them 3D Stutter glasses that came with them Wicked 3D Voodoo2 cards.

I also remember there were them Gray / Black 3D glasses, dunno if that should differ from the red green ones or red cyan ones heh, ah well not that it matters, my eyes can't see 3D through such glasses, it's a handycap I have had my entire life, so I will let the VGA card do the 3D then, But the effect is that the 3D objects come out of your screen right?

Makes me wonder if a 3D monitor would have any effect with this tech hmmz.

Yes, the effect adds a quite intense feeling of true depth to the scenes, where close objects will seem to hover in front of the monitor. Anaglyphic 3D is different from the shutter method (where each eye alternatingly gets to see a frame). Image
