My dad's missing

Post » Mon May 17, 2010 11:05 pm

Title says it all.... I just need to get it off my chest.

He hasn't answered his cell phone for about five hours(he was on his way home for dinner last he called), and he's nowhere to be found. We've called the police to see if he was(for some reason) arrested, nothing. He's not in any local hospitals. He's just gone, it's turning into night, and I'm afraid that he's dead or something. :cold:

Sorry for this, but I just needed to type that out; and this is the first place it occurred to me to post at.

OP I hope you're dad is ok

I'm sure there's a perfectly reasonable explanation

Perhaps he got a flat tire or his car broke down

I'm sure everything will work out ok

Wow, that must be scary. I don't think I can offer any advice because that sinking feeling you get is something you can't stop. You should keep trying his cell and maybe phone some of his local friends to see if they've seen him. Don't phone too many, though, because you wouldn't want to scare everyone.

When I was younger I always had this fear that my parents wouldn't be comming home from work. Once my mom was late 7 hours and I was freaking out. I swear to god, I spent about 3 hours waiting in the window.

It was 8 o'clock and her car finally pulled in. She decided to go out with a friend, and she forgot her cellphone at the house.

You always think it'll never happen to you and it won't. I know its naive, but its a positive outlook.

Trust me, he'll be home soon. And then freak out him because you called the cops and got everyone riled up! :P

I remember my dad was supposed to come home around 3:00, but didn't arrive until 6:00. I was so worried but I guess he got caught in a snowstorm and there was tons of traffic.

What kind of a place does he work at? Might have had to run back for something, then got caught up in a critical function.

Has happened to me more than a few times.

[edit] I had one 8 hour shift turn to a 24 hour day.

I was just trying to cheer OP, but I'm sorry if it got taken the wrong way.

Anyway, dwelling on the matter wont make your father (or, god forbid, news of your father) get home any quicker.

But really, he'll proabably be fine, in all likelyhood he got sidetracked, or called to work or something, and when he went to call you found his phone was out of battery.

Cornicer, I hope things resolve quickly and that it turns out to be something mundane, like he met up with some friends, had a few beers and lost track of time. Sometimes those things happen, even to grown ups.

3-26, learn when to give it rest, you may have noticed a post disappeared.

He's a salesman, and this kind of stuff just doesn't happen in his job. And if it did, he'd have called or dropped by the house(he said he was at the store literally 5 minutes away last time he called).

Thanks(mostly) everyone for the words of encouragement. We've called the police station and his license plates aren't associated with any recent accidents or anything, which is good. Now if only we knew exactly where he was. :nope:

that's

honestly that's terrifying, I don't know what to say :(

once when I was little my parents and I went out to the desert. My dad left the cabin to go for a walk at nine in the morning saying he'd be back at noon.

he came back at midnight. We were scared [censored]-less, we thought he was attacked, we thought he might've had a heart attack (he has problems there) I nearly started crying, my mom called the rangers.
I remember it was one of the scariest moments of my life. But it turned out all right in the end.
I doubt anything truly severe has happened to him :)

I will pray.

My father didnt get lost or hurt, he just hasnt had anything to do with me for several years. If this does turn out bad, all I can say is that it will still be alright. That probably doesnt make since, but things like that usually dont.

Hopefully he just had something urgent to take care of and then his cellphone died, it's been known to happen.

My mom works night shift at a nursing home. One time she didn't come home until the next night. They had her work overtime and she didn't have time to call.

I think it was only last year now that I think of it. I got a flat tire and my phone died. Needless to say, I didn't call my parents until many hours later (I think it was the next day).

These kind of things happen. I wish you good luck and to be patient. Your father probably had something similar happen to him.

I'm sure he'll be home soon. Maybe he ran into an old friend or something and got caught up. I've done that plenty of times.

This reminds me of a story...

My oldest sister went to the Upper Peninsula this past spring and her phone had zero reception and the last thing we heard was her car broke down. We didn't hear for her for a good 3 days (The trip was supposed to be 2). It turned out that both phones had zero reception and they had to wait a day for their car to get fixed and instead of calling went camping anyways. We were going to call the police but she called first. She had some stories of how a tow truck driver (whom was missing half his teeth) and the tow truck drivers wife had come to pick them up. They had room for one in the cabin of the car so my sister went up front with them and my nephew did too, while my brother-in-law and two nieces, illegally, and highly unsafely, rode in the vehicle being towed. The whole time the tow truck drivers wife repeatedly told my sister she looked familiar and asked countless times where she may have seen her before. My sister had never been in that area before in her entire life by about a good 400 miles and she told this woman that yet she still asked her various questions about where she may have seen her before. Finally after a good 25 minute car ride to the auto repair place they were able to rent a car for a day until their car was fixed.

Quick update:

Found him a few streets down, not sure if he's had a stroke; probably be going to ER tonight. We've found him though, thankfully.
