Daedra and their realms.

So I have a question.

What I have heard is that realms of Daedric lords happen to be a part of the lord themselves.

Why is it when heroes enter Oblivion the walls just don't crush them or the land swallow them whole, I find it silly that these all powerful princes just don't slaughter them or just teleport to the intruders.

When a unbound mortal manages to make it to Oblivion outside of the Princes terms, they're the equivalent of bacteria entering in through the system. Most are inevitably crushed by Oblivion's own denizens, but the Princes potentially have no more control when it comes to mortals then we do when it comes to our immune system.

That, and the Princes innate hubris regarding mortals for the most part either provides them entertainment, or are unwilling to deal with things directly for the fun of the sport. Or perhaps they can't, in the case of Mora. He had to wait until Miraak was weakened before he tried to can him.

There's no definite answers on this point yet, as far as I know.

If you assume that they are their realms: I suppose that then Daedric princes cannot destroy intruders any more than you can consciously destroy germs that enter your body. At least in the case of princes that don't directly invite you into their realm, the Daedric planes tend to be hazardous while not insurmountable.

But then you could equally consider this evidence that the Daedra are distinct from their planes. They are said to have created their realms from stolen creatia (magical/mythical energy), so I suppose that that's evidence that the "prince" and the realm are different things. Also:

Both these quotes imply that the ruler of a Daedric realm can change, so the Prince and the plane are separable.

Lyg is a special case, though. It isn't a Daedric Realm; it's what you would call an Adjacent Place, a Place-Not-Quite there. It's alternative Tamriel, coffee-stained into obscurity, so far West its East. Imagine Lyg as someone spilling water (or coffee) on a piece of paper. On one side you have on blotch, and that's Tamriel. However, you flip it over and you have the same blotch. That's Lyg.

In terms of the OP's original question, to me the Daedric Realms are more akin to the mind's of the Daedric Prince than their bodies. Bodies represent stasis, which the Daedra are definitely not. Minds however, are very much representatives of change.

While that may be true "in reality" (Recent MK quotes, LN's map) it doesn't add up with the presentation in the Commentaries.

Lyg is certainly in Oblivion (since, in Mythic Dawn worldview, NRN and basically everything is). However, it's also part of Dreugh-era Mundus (since that's where Dagon's crusades against the Dreugh Kings take place) and yet also host to the Magne-Ge (they created Mehrunes). And depending on whether you take "Malbioge", (from Malebolge, a circle of hell), and "Horma-Gile" (suggestive of Herma-Mora) to be suggestive of Oblivion, the places conquered during this (possibly previous kalpa) period could be Daedric realms. Also, Vermae or Vermai are mentioned, which are a species of Daedra. Dagonite Lyg is not Nirn's "adjacent place" Lyg, and if http://monkeytruth.net/texts/dragonbreak.shtml' beliefs are representative, is Shezarr (or the realm thereof). Anyway, offtopic.

The important bit is "Keeper of Coldharbour since" because it indicates that Molag Bal was once not the keeper of Coldharbour.
