A Daedra's Best Friend

Post » Tue May 29, 2012 7:49 am

Okay so as the title states above I'm doing the quest called "A Daedra's Best Friend" for C. Vile (Daedric Prince), and his dog, Barbas, is following me. I got to the dungeon where some weapon lies that Vile wants, but I've come to a locked door that I cannot find the switch/lever for it. Any help?

What's the name of the dungeon?

I think this must be one of those radiant quests because I was sent to pick up the axe in a barrow (or maybe it was a cave) that only had two rooms.

It's called "Rimerock Burrow" and the room I'm in is called "Volskygge Passages". Barbas is busy walking in the corner of the room where the marker on the compass is located.

Stupid door >_>

I ran through the dungeon because there's an NPC that can kill me in about 3 hits, and he's yet to follow me, but I'm certain on my way back to the entrance he'll slay me.

Here is a link to the Wiki page with a bunch of hints on it.

If you are hesitant to follow the link you can Google "A daedra's best friend" and there will be two wiki links; one is worthless and the other is great.

Iam not sure I remember correctly, keep that in mind.
I have been to that Dungeon twice, one time before the Quest without Barbas, then with the Quest and with him.
The first time I couldnt open a door, the second time it was already opened by Barbas I think.
So you probably have to follow him.

I googled the quest name last night and I found things like this link, but nothing tells me how to unlock that darn door. If you know how to get me past this door I'd be a happy gamer. Thanks for trying though.

Barbas is busy walking in the corner of the room and barking his head off. Guess I'll have to go outside then return to the dungeon?

Mind rephrasing that, please? Yes, I'm in the Volskygge Passages, but there's not another way around this door that I've been able to find. Aside from one really strong undead guy that I ran past, I'm stuck.

There is a nearby Ruin called Volskygge, maybe that room is meant to be the "exit way" of that ruin and the door can just be activated from the other side.

I didn't really do Volskygge and I went through Rimerock Barrow with no problem. And by "didn't really do" I mean that I didn't go through the dungeon but killed the boss and got the word of power from Volskygge. There's an alternate way up the mountain where you can bypass the entire dungeon. Now that I think about it, I climbed up the mountain, found the boss and word of power, then on my way back down I discovered Rimerock barrow and then hours and hours later, I fast traveled to Rimerock with Barbas.

So if going through all of Volskygge doesn't work for you, try going around it by climbing the mountain and then descending on the side of Rimerock.

That might actually be the reason why I can't get through that door >_> I went the way you did: Found the word of power for the Whirlwind Sprint, and then ran from the boss because I kept dying. Went into the dungeon and got stuck at that one door. bleh....now to go BACK outside and to the other side of the dungeon...thanks man. I wouldn't have thought of that on my own, honestly. I, for some odd reason, thought the boss outside was guarding both the entrance and the word of power.

I FAIL

EDIT: This would also explain why the pressure tile was on the EXIT of the door I went through instead of the ENTRANCE..bleh

Your lucky, I've still got that quest to do but I can't find him! (The dog I mean.) He approached me outside Falkreath I think, but I didn't begin the quest then, now despite looking all over for him, I can't find him at all. Anyone know where to look? If I initiate the quest in my journal, it shows the place where I have to go as if he's already with me.

Yeah I found him waiting at the end of the dungeon for me - right where his boss's statue is. Guess he got impatient - though I did take half a month to get around to helping him.
