Daedra Player Characters?

Post » Tue Sep 07, 2010 3:49 am

I was just wondering. I've always thought it would be very cool to get to play a Daedra like we play the other character Races. Even to have your home Realm be in a Daedric Realm that we haven't seen yet.

Since I play mostly Sneak-based assassin type of characters, I would love to play a Daedra that serves either Nocturnal, or maybe even Mephala or Clavicus Vile.

I ask because since the Dragons are returning (thus fulfilling another portion of the Elder Scrolls prophecy) in Skyrim, what would the Daedric Princes' think about the Dragons being free to roam about and not Gods like themselves? What if they had put an agent into play like we have served for the Emperor so many times before?

If you could be a Daedra in Skyrim, what would you be and whom would you serve (assuming you have a choice)?

The idea of playing a Daedra has always intrigued me, but I think it's best left to mods.

I'm happy the list is already annmounced, and we'll have the same stock ten playable races. I could only seeing playing as daedra being interesting in any way if the storyline were built with true evil options- for instance, if in Oblivion you could actually side with Dagon then it might make sense.

And of course, yet another stacked-deck "Avatar of Bias" poll with options written so as to make you decide whether to vote for options that all but say "...because I'm lame" or to avoid such schoolyard insults by voting for what the poll's creator wants. We see what you did thar.

lol

It's very difficult to write a poll everyone is happy with... or anybody for that matter.

You need to change the poll if you really want to see the number of people who disagree with you. Last two questions should have a "I don't want playable Daedra" option.

Here's a revolutionary idea toward that end: " Do you like the idea?" then options "Yes" or "No" rather than "Yes, I think the creator of this idea rocks!" or "No, I'm a no-life lamer who enjoys things that svck!" How difficult was that?

There needs to be a viable reason for a Daedra to want to get involved to justify making them playable. Which, in Skyrim's case, appears to be lacking ("What's that? Dragons are wreaking havoc in that mortal realm which is about to be eaten and reset? And this concerns me how?"). That, and some pretty important things would have to be altered, namely how death is handled, and how NPCs react toward you.

I don't think it would really fit in well with the vanilla game, like it says it would ruin the immersion and Bethesda would have to make a completely new storyline for them. There is going to be mods to play as one though, and it's actually really easy to make the mod where you can play as them yourself.

Yep. If anything, news that the land they tried to take over is being attacked by dragons sounds like a reason for the daedra to help the dragons out- which brings us back to the angle of needing to write basically an entire second main quest line, built around the player character working toward the opposite goal that the current main quest (presumably) has them working toward. Not that I'd mind seeing this, as I've wanted a game where you can really take the evil path for a while, but would we really want to wait long enough for them to write and implement a second main quest?

If I had a choice, I'd rather go undead, and go from powerful necromancer to all-powerful Lich.

I'm completely content with the ten playable races we have now. Wouldn't have it any other way. I never even use alternate race mods.

Oh, hey, Game Master, can I start as a rediculously overpowered 20 lvl character with full plate armor and kill black dragons with one hit?

Want to play as an immortal being - just type TGM in console.

No, they would be far too hard to implement regarding all the voice acting, AI reactions etc.

A daedra player character wouldn't even work . . . The game would go something like this: Play Daedra. Get attacked by guards in every city.

Not all Daedra are bad. They don't all serve Mehrunes Dagon. However, I do agree there shouldn't be a playable Daedra race. They're immortal, for one. If they are going to include a new race I think they should either include the Wild Elves, the Maormer, bring some race over from another continent (like the Sload or one of the Akaviri races), or for whatever reason bring back the Dwemer. I'm not so sure about the latter, since they are/were technologically advanced. I don't want to see guns in The Elder Scrolls.

Being able to play as a Daedroth makes no sense whatsoever. Daedra are bound to Oblivion, and have no concern for the affairs of mortal men and elves. How would a deadroth be born with the soul of a dragon when they are merely the extension of a Daedric prince? Also, Daedra become mortal when they project themselves into the plane of Nirn. When they die, they return to Oblivion.

lol wut? The daedra ARE all bad all dremora (The only species capable of intelligence) serve mehrunes dagon they all see humans as prey and they all would kill every human they saw if it wasnt to their advantage not to,and dont use "the one in paradise didnt" as an excuse he let you live because you were of use to you if you hadnt been you would have been dead.

Dwemer will not be brought back.Ever.They all died except one who was outside the world at the time the rest were absorded in to the numinumdom to make a mechanical god. The Sload would not interact with other races enough to be playable. The Wild Elves enslaved every other race so another no.The maomer has no reason why but again is unlikely. And finally the akrivai races,The ka'po'tun will never be playable because they plan to invade tamerial so I doubt they would be accepted, the kamal invaded tamerial and are seen as demons so yet again another no, the tang mo may be playable at one point but it is unlikely and finally the last race. The tsaesci they can never be play-able they ate the men on akarvi which will make it hard for ANY race to trust them, they also invaded tamerial to so yet another reason why they will never be playable.

I would love to for many reasons. And I think I would try to escape into Nirn and avoid the rule of a Prince, thanks. Maybe make a deal with a sorcerer, who in turn can make his bargain with Clavicus Vile.

I doubt this will happen anytime soon though. It CAN be done, even within the lore it can be managed, especially depending on how one plays the character.

That said, again, I am not holding my breath on it, and will, for now, content myself with playing Altmer and Dunmer who have Daedra heritage which distinguishes them.
