On Daedra worship during the times of the Tribunal

Hey everyone!

I've been brushing up on my Dunmeri lore and one thing eludes me - was Daedra worship outright forbidden during the Tribunal's reign? I know the ashlanders worshipped the Daedra, but it seems that the Tribunal attempted to suppress daedra worship. Now, we know Azura cursed the Chimer into the Dunmer, but were there any worshippers while the Tribunal was active? The "Invocation of Azura" book implies the author has been around for quite some time, and Barenziah I think also mentioned some Dunmer quietly worshipped the Daedra at the old temples.

Also, the official story told by the Tribunal is that they reach godhood through their own efforts, right? I think I read a book about it in ESO. Through discipline and wisdom and inner strength, etc. Basically the Chimeri success story. So, what was stopping Boethiah, Mephala and most notably Azura from revealing the truth to those Dunmer who still worshipped them?? Azura definitely would not agree that she is the "anticipation" of Sotha Sil, yet I don't ever remember reading that she got angry and revealed everything after the curse. Boethiah and Mephala I can see as more lenient, because they just want to do their own intrigues, but still it's baffling that they didn't do.... I don't know, something. Only Sheoggorath sent a comet flying, and he might have done so out of amusemant.

Basically, why haven't the Daedra even revealed something to their worshippers, if Daedra worship existed at all??

Now, I haven't played Morrowind so I'm relying on the knowledge of others to help explain my confusion xD
