[Pend] Daedric Armour Replacer

Post » Mon Nov 15, 2010 8:10 am

Pending in the PES queue is a small pluginless Daedric Armour Replacer - when it turns up I'll post the link - http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=8673

I never know how long it takes before the admins at PES upload so here are the screenshots and info of the mod in the meantime

http://a.imageshack.us/img844/5551/daedricold.jpg

http://a.imageshack.us/img707/8568/daedricnew.jpg

Yep it's Jojjo's Dreadknight Armour as converted by Bahamut replicated and renamed as a pluginless replacer for the Daedric Armour

Jojjo gives permission in his original readme to allow reuse of the meshes/textures as long as credit is given to him and I have checked with bahamut if he is okay having this release as well

I have used the first version Bahumut converted - pre bump mapping, reflection mapping etc to keep things simple

The meshes replaced include the pauldrons, greaves, cuirass (male version only), gauntlets, boots and the terrifying helm which is used in the game for the Bound Helm spell.

As the Daedric helms replace the head body part I did not bother replacing any of the other helms except for the bound helm, the other helms still look good with this armour.

With respect to Jojjo I decided not to change any of the textures apart from converting the icons from tga to dds - this will mean that on certain angles if you look through the eye holes of the helm you can see a neck stump - just think of it as the ulitmate in clipping :) Actually it's very easy to fix if you want to do so yourself just replace the texture DreadKnightHelmShadow.dds with one of your own a simple 128x128 black square will do - make sure you call it the same filename though.

As this is a pluginless armour replacer I choose the male cuirass and to be honest it looks http://a.imageshack.us/img534/1804/allon.png

Of course shields are not replaced - but hey if you have a full suit of this armour on be a real warrior and use a 2-handed blade.

I've tested the meshes and textures in game and all the paths were working correct for me - I also checked how the ground meshes were working - the boots are a little taller than the originals but they are so rare to see on shelves it should not be a problem

If you do end up downloading this mod and discovering something I have failed to please would you post the problem here and I'll seek to fix it or if it is a known issue explain either how to fix it or how to ignore it - you know useful comments like "have you ever wondered why Bethesda used 1st person mode - it reduces most of your character's clipping and animation issues" :)

Anyway when it turns up on PES I hope you enjoy Jojjo's and Bahamut's work as much as I have - now to to be seen on the more smartly dressed Dremora and Ancient Dunmer

I do love Jojjo's armor, but I like Bethesda's daedric more.

This is an interesting idea but I'm not sure how many people will want to actually play with it. Still, you did a good job :3

On the one hand, that looks awesome, and who doesn't love a pluginless replacer?

On the other hand, I do like the original daedric style... Decisions, decisions...

Nice work, though!

I was/am doing something similar with my Dremora replacer/creature additions; I altered/recobbled the textures to mimic the theme of the original Daedric (tonally so). If you want, you are more than welcome to use my textures for this (as it will be a bit yet til I am able to finalise my Dremoras for their debut ;) ).

But... this is just Dreadknight armor.

I could use existing Dreadknight (once you get over the clipping..) and that way have both armors (DK + original awesome daedric armor).

Think anything daedric should be atleast red hue too..

Thanks for the kind offer Westly though I will decline

I've learnt some folks feel very uncomfortable having their textures recoloured - "it's like painting graffiti over artwork" someone once said to me - unless the textures are released as PSD/XCF files or as a resource that clearly says they can be changed I feel safer just leaving them as is

I didn't want credit to go to me for the models or textures in any way - Jojjo asked in his readme that credit was to go where it was due - which really includes Robert for his Oblivion Male Body, Jojjo and now Bahamut for the Morrowind conversion - I just worked out how to add it to the game as a pluginless replacer.

It would probably have been best to PM me rather than post a pic of your mod in my thread - am not upset - I'm just so over reading threads that dissolve into I prefer this version than that one... just saying that's all

After reading through some of the other comments....

I can understand how some really still enjoy the vanilla Daedric Armour - it has a rare value in the game, you need to toughen up to get it and have the strength of a Guar to walk around in it - Daedric armour is armour that is like respect - you earn it you don't buy it. However the Dreadknight has a very close lore look to it and I enjoy seeing it in my game on more than just myself.

Of course the usual story applies if you don't like it don't download - if a different version comes along that seems a better fit to your game style then grab that one :) I started modding because I no longer could wait on others to create the things I wanted in my game today :)

Really doesn't speak "Daedric" to me. Good attempt though.

Of course I more than anyone understand this (which is why my retex is just that, rather than a recolour; the only part of the original tex that I preserved was the skull parts which have even now (since that pic was made) have been repainted as well.

No worries, the pic is now removed. I just wanted to offer the textures to you (with the pic as the only current frame of reference I had "on hand").

Cool idea, Illuminiel. Do you know if this will be compatible with "bound complete" mods since it's a pluginless replacer?

I really don't like the idea of replacing the original Daedric Armour, because it actually looks good. The new armour you've made (linked in the first post) to me looks more like some kind of "elite ebony" rather than daedric. :P

But then Daedric is elite ebony, sort of. ;)

It's great you thought of this Illuminiel, I like that armor and in my opinion suits the Daedric theme.

Hmmm... I'm starting to wonder whether I should of done this mod now - it seems some have such strong views on whether Daedric armour should be red or not - I looked at the orignal style of the Daedric Armour and decided the Dread Knight Armour was sympathetic in styling - the skull motif matches the original greaves - anyway I can see the comments are beginning on PES - PES has had a few problems in syncing with fileplanet lately but the mod is now available

Pluginless http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=8673

It should be compatible with any of the plugins which add more Bound Daedric Armour as long as they use original Daedric Armour naming conventions for their mod - this mod just replaces the greaves, pauldrons, cuirass, gauntlets, boots and the Terrifying Helm with Jojjo's armour.

For those who enjoy pluginless mods - hooray

For those who are hung up on the colour scheme - move along there's nothing to see here

It bugs me that people will slam mods that they have no intention of playing. If you don't like a mod, don't use it. Anyway, our offer at GHF still stands and I'm on my way to download this to try it out in-game. Thanks, Il. I know that a few positive notes in what seems to be a sea of negative ones may not seem like much, but sometimes you have to ignore the negative and relish the positive. ;)

And that means what, exactly.
Was that a compliment?

I would, or will, totally play with it. Granted, I might prefer the Daedric Lord Armour, but this is gorgeous, and I would be happy to have it integrated into the game.

This is a good idea well implemented and the choice of armour is of the highest quality. :)

Choice is good, as giving people the choice to use something different is what modding is all about :goodjob:

I guess it's compounded by the fact that the daedric helms are still red. I'm not a lore buff though, but I wonder why you didn't use Bahamut's updated one?

I'm afraid I have to agree with the general consensus here. I agree that the style of the Dreadknight armour is perfect for Daedric, but I just can't stand to lose the distinctive red-and-black colour scheme. I'm honestly not trying to 'slam' the mod here, just to give constructive criticism, but personally I would love to see this mod with Westly's textures (having seen the picture he referred to) and I think you should consider accepting his offer. It could make the difference between getting a handful of downloads or getting hundreds.

Bahmaumt's updated version is designed to make full use of MCP features - the original one is compatible for those who don't use MCP - I didn't want the mod to be reliant on anything so therefore I used the original meshes/textures

Um if I modded for the purpose of getting many downloads then I wouldn't mod Morrowind - there just isn't the number of people playing the game anymore and a number of downloaders are mod collectors rather than players

The mod is for those who like the style of Jojjo's work - like myself and are okay with it just as it is - I'm not a mesh maker and a very amateur texturer at best, as previously mentioned I did not have permission to retexture the meshes and therefore was not going to

If Westly ever decides to release his textures, with or without Jojjo's permission, then you can download those if it suits you

I'm not sure why so many feel compelled to make a comment on the colour - let me say it again I had no permission to change it - however I was willing to settle for less in order to enjoy it in my game if you don't like it then don't bother offering suggestions on changing it as that will not happen :)

It's take it or leave it and or those who take it I hope you enjoy it as much as I do :)
