Daedric Artifacts Dissapointing

Post » Wed Dec 14, 2011 5:23 pm

Am I the only one that found the Daedric artifacts to be a little dissapointing? Some of the effects are cool, but you can make better equipment that anything they give you, with the possible exceptions of Spellbreaker and Azuras Star.

Thoughts?

I think there awesome. I especially thought namiras ring was well done . A lot of the artifacts have unique properties to them that can't be duplicated via enchanting, which is how they should be.

Sounds about right.

But honestly, this has always been the case. Daedric Artifacts as weapons are, by and large, inferior.

If loot from quests could be better than the best gear you can craft, then crafting would be a waste of the investment.

So yeah, they should be weaker.

Sanguine's Rose and The Mace of Molag Bal were incredibly lame.

Yeah Mace of Molag Bal and Dawnbreaker have terrible damage, even agaisn't it's effectives targets. Isn't supossed supossed to a Deadric artifact to deal god like damage?

The Daedric artifacts are intended to be unique, not all powerful. They completely fulfill their purpose in the game.

Bethesda has promised balance patches. I wouldn't be surprised if this included buffing unique items (specifically, weapons and armor) to be equal to their Daedric/Dragonscale counterparts in base damage, so ridiculous smithed weapons aren't better than Dawnbreaker, for example.

EDIT: @Tale, it's even useful at max Conjuration, as I believe the summon it gives doesn't count towards your total summons, so you can theoretically have two Dremora Lords, a follower, a Spectral Assassin, and a Dragon or legendary Sovngarde warrior fighting with you at once (although I have yet to test this.)

Spoilers blacked out because spoiler tags are ugly.

Sanguine's Rose is simply incredible. It conjurs the best summon in the game. Only not useful if you're a high level conjurer.

All the best weapons in the game are Daedric.

They just happen to be Daedric weapons that you create.

Weaker sure, but nearly useless? I understand not wanting to take away from the crafting aspect of the game, but considering what the Daedric Princes are (in the game) you would think their "boons" would be a little more substantial, at least to the point of making you "want" to use them over typical equipment.

I thought Volendrung would be worth using even if it's damage fell a SLIGHT bit behind crafted daedric weaponry.

But then I saw how quickly it eats soulgems compared to crafted weaponry. :C

Not all the artifacts are disappointing. Namira's Ring is good, Oghma Infinimum is amazing, Spellbreakers decent.

Pretty much this. They should still offer some unique effects that should make their use considered, but if you have your crafting skills up, you should prefer your crafted gear for most general situations (and that's mostly how it is, my friends use their own crafted shields most of the time, but going against deadly casters they bust out spellbreaker).

Also, you guys aren't taking into account that you can get daedric artifacts well below 100 crafting skill.

I was upset that to be a thief in good standing with Nocturnal, you had to give the Skeleton Key back. What is the point of that?

Actually, my Chillrend (Legendary) with all my one-handed enchantments on has a damage value of 376 compared to my Daedric Sword (Legendary)'s 369 or so. Daedric Mace (Legendary) is still the strongest one-handed weapon I've encountered, though. Seriously, dual power attack with Daedric Maces with all perks, 100 One-Handed, one-handed enchantments, and a one-handed potion with Orc daily ability does well over 3,700 damage. To put that in perspective, Ancient Dragons have 3,074 health.

This.

In any TES game I have never used Daedric Artifacts as there were always better options.

That one I actually understand as it effects the balance of the game by removing a key component (lockpicking). I just find it underwhelming to hunt down something like Mehrunes Razor, and find out that compared to my crafted gear it's not only weaker but substantially so to the point where I see no value in it's unique ability.

Agreed. I received Sanguine's Rose relatively early in the game (just stumbled through what seemed like a random quest, it was really well done). I use it constantly, the summoned dremora really helps in some bandit leader battles in the caves/forts.

Sounds more likely that my expectations were a little off for the artifacts. Ahh well, at least there's Wabbajack.

Any item that is given to you by a god / magical being from ANY other lore would have them be the best of the best. Any argument otherwise is just silly. Game developers do this all the time and it's mostly just for balancing purposes.

Yes it would be rediculous if you spent all those perk points and time into leveling smithing if it didn't have a payoff. However there must be some middle ground that would make sense and preserve balance.

Although Namira's Ring is nice, I find the text popup every time you try to loot a body very annoying. I just want my arrows back; no, I don't want to feed. :P
