Yeah true, I guess it would be more expected of them to build bastillas, those big mounted siege crossbows.

A Dwarven crossbow sounds like the most likely variation.

Crossbows are pretty much exactly like bows, they just require different ammunition. I would say that is why they were removed. Including a new type of bow that is exactly the same in all ways besides aesthetically and requires a specific type of ammunition is a little ridiculous.

If they could somehow make crossbows different to bows, then that would be the only way they would include them.

What about the Daedric siege engine? It's mechanical.

Shot fireballs, thats magical.
It could have used magic to move the legs, like the elevators in towers. Im not 100% sure, but they don't appear very mechanical.
As far as I see in lore, the dwemer (it seems we'll be seeing their ruins again, yay) are the only ones who do mechanical.

They have magic that makes a machine destroy towns and create island worlds in seas of lava.

What's stopping them from making a crossbow to shoot small arrows?

I believe that is a creature, it is just powered by a sigil stone

The hunters on Solsheim made them ;) same goes for Imperials with their steel crossbows, so its not like nobody knows how to make easy mechanical stuff.

I think thats why they were removed. Im speculating, but I think they were removed because technology isn't supposed to advance in Tamriel.

I would hardly describe a crossbow as being exactly like a bow. They are made differently , use short bolts instead of arrows , are reloaded differently using either mechanisms or great strength , are fired and held differently , dont require the string to be held (by the crossbowmen) when its drawn , take far longer to actually draw back because of how tense the string is and they cannot shoot in steep arcs but fire further and faster on a straight angle.

Daedric looks stupid to me. I wish there was an alternative high level heavy armor/weapon set, so that I don't have to be walking around in demonic hell-forged magma vein plate armor..

So.. what you're saying is that technology advanced too far in Tamriel (in Bethesda's eyes), so they decide to just erase it all with no explanation whatsoever? That doesn't make very much sense in my opinion.

Yes thats what I am speculating. I think they decided it should be a Dwemer thing only because they were the race that was about technology.
Im just speculating.
But how do you explain other items from disappearing? Broad swords? The fact is they didn't, they just ignored it.

If they can make crossbows a useful addition to the game, then yes.

Crossbows should be made of wood and steel because those denser metals should be harder to create fine mechanical components with.

surely it's harder to smith an ebony or glass sword than an iron one. Doesn't mean that it makes them completely impractical to make. In the case of crossbows, the better materials I imagine makes them better enchantment value, more durable, and possibly more lethal.

In all honesty though, crossbows don't actually interest me. Spears before cross bows. A spear is the one of the most basic weapons..ever.
