Daedric Princes Related?!?

Post » Sun May 13, 2012 7:35 pm

Okay so maybe someone can clarify this for me:

I've been doing a lot of reading on the Daedra (their lore has always fascinated me) and it seems like some of them are related? Is this true? I read on TIL that Molag Bal alludes to being the father of Vaermina........

Anyone able to expand upon this? I understand that they were all created from Anu and/or Padomay but I didn't think there were actual relationships like mother/father, brother/sister, son/daughter, etc.

Daedra are simply the et'Ada that float around in the Void and mess with the Mundus. Where they originate is irrelevant. Meridia is an outcast Magne-Ge. Mehrunes Dagon was a Magne-Ge who became a Leaper Demon and then was cursed/eaten by Alduin.

I would read the Molag Bal being the father of Vaermina in a metaphoric sense. Vaermina is the god who weaves lies and deceit around mortals. Molag Bal dominates. Those two things can be correlated.

In Daggerfall Sheogorath calls the other Princes his unbrothers and nonsisters, suggesting the family relation is just a metaphor and they aren't real siblings.

Also I believe Varieties of Faith claims Hermaeus is Mephala's brother, and thus is related to the Morag Tong.

Doesn't Mora claim to be the oldest of the Daedra?

In addition to Malacath, these two are not considered "true" daedric princes to the others, as Malacath was born late from Boethiah passing Trinimac, while Sheogorath was the insanity that'd spark from the creation of Mundus.

Nocturnal is the first Daedra. Hermaeus claims to merely be one of the eldest. Presumably he is the second oldest, or they were twins and Mephala is just Nocturnal putting on a mask.

Why is Nocturnal the oldest?

Aspect of the primordial darkness of Sithis. Most of the Daedra respect her as the Ur-Dra, so they certainly believe it.

The Dark Brotherhood is a cult of the primordial darkness of Sithis and yet remains younger than the Morag Tong. Where do we find the Daedra honoring her as Ur-dra?

"Nocturnal is accorded the title Ur-dra by nearly all the Royalty of Oblivion. As the mother of night, she claims to be an aspect of the original Void itself, and it is generally deemed best to fortify this declaration in one’s evening prayers."

To note, that link Sithis linked could be considered canon, until otherwise, as that was supposed to be included in the Oblivion Collector's Edition, but didn't due to time.

I notice that same document lists Molag Bal as the brother of Hermaeus Mora, a most dubious claim.

They're not even human.

That they so often fight in Mundex Arena should spoil the surprise: they're sixteen and one shades of Lorkhan.

You mean 18 minus the Victor.
