The Daedric Princes, for the most part, embody different traits and elements. Jyggylag represents order, Namira represents dark spirits, Nocturnal is the night, Vaermina is dreams, and so on. If more existed, they don't show themselves to the mortals of Nirn, and thus we have nothing to describe them with. It'd be like a whole new emotion, we have no idea what it would be like, but we'd quickly make a name for it. Except the emotion is a powerful sentient entity with its own realm in Oblivion...

Those Daedra that do not interfere with mortals would not be known to the mortals that they are not interfering with, thus we would not know them. Everyone we know we know, and if we don't know them then we don't. Simple as that :D

In an Oblivion Fighter's Guild quest, you have to escort an Altmer woman named Elante of Alinor through Brittlerock Cave to a Daedra shrine. The broken statue of the Daedra is quite obviously none of the ones that we know of. So there's at least one Daedra Prince that we know nothing about.

We knew next to nothing about Jyggalag before the Shivering Isles. Only earlier reference was in the book On Oblivion, and he was widely assumed to be Meridia in the fan community at the time, since she is strangely not mentioned in this source but he is. He turned out to be real after all, though.

The Greg Keyes novel "Infernal City" seems to suggest that Umbra is now a Daedric Prince of his own, having stolen some of Sanguine's soul and realm to make his own, called Umbriel.

Ugh....you're right. I could have sworn that's what I typed.

Did anyone mention that Daedric Princes are greedy, and prone to steal attention away from their brothers and sisters for themselves? :P

I don't think we need more Princes, we hardly know anything of the ones we have. What could possibly become of making more, other than scrapping them by the following Daedra census? Total irrelevance makes them nonexistant, anyway.

I get the impression that Jyggalag is probably not going to be heard from again, though I may be wrong. Who knows? Perhaps there will by a Jyggy shrine quest in TES V? It doesn't completely break the lore.

Umbriel, I believe, will be a temporary Prince. I think old Clavicus Vile is going to get that portion of his soul back, and Umbra is going to be trapped in his sword again, before the events of the second novel are over.

Semantics. The obvious can be discounted, the OP merely phrased the question wrong. A far more interesting question would be if there could be Daedric Princes out there that we don't know about yet, such as Jyggylag was. Obviously if we don't know about them then we wouldn't know about them. It's like asking if there is life on other planets.

The Greg Keyes novel "Infernal City" seems to suggest that Umbra is now a Daedric Prince of his own, having stolen some of Sanguine's soul and realm to make his own, called Umbriel.

Really? That's interesting. I really need to read that book then :P Can anyone just do that, or do they need a sword that can steal souls? Would this have anything to do with the Clavicus Vile quest we get in Oblivion? Perhaps whoever completed the quest kept the sword, and was attacked by Clavicus, but the new Umbra took some of his soul with their new sword  I suppose I'll have to read and find out.

EDIT: Ah, oh well.

I don't think being a temporary Prince is allowed. Umbriel is still an extension of Vile, is it not? The plot was to free itself from him completely, and become part of Mundus.

It's foreshadowed in Oblivion when Vile's hound tells the player character not to give the sword back because 'it will ruin Clavicus'.

Apparently the dark spirit Umbra has been plotting to get into Vile's realm for years for the purpose of bursting free of his sword and stealing a portion of the Daedric Prince's power. Umbra is now a Dark Lord but didn't appear in person during the events of the novel. A Dunmer sorcerer named Vuhon seems to run most of the affairs of Umbriel, the Infernal City and Umbra's daedric realm.

Prince, maybe not..you're right..but he's a powerful Daedric Lord nonetheless.

Also, he might well be a Prince. After all, they haven't all existed since the beginning. Meridia became one, as did Malacath. Sheogorath wasn't there from the very beginning either.

One does not become a Deadric Prince because one has an extreme amount of power. One becomes a Daedric Prince because they are the embodiment of some concept - the first Princes, like Azura, Nocturnal, and Hermaeus Mora came into existence because they were the embodiment of Time/Beauty, Pure Darkness, and Miscellaneous Ideas (respectively, and only very generally speaking). Some of the others, like Malacath, Meridia, and Sheogorath only came into existence when Nirn was created, as their spheres relate only to mortal concepts - The Spurned/Shunned, Finite Life, and Madness/Unpredictability (respectively). All of the Daedric Princes existed by the time that Nirn was in existence for a reason - they are all associated with Nirn in some way (whether they like it or not).

So, just because Umbra kidnapped a portion of Clavicus Vile's realm (it still being his realm currently) and a portion of Vile's essence, doesn't give him any sort of Daedric-Prince-level of authority.

Note that Jyggalag existed before Nirn was created, and that his transformation into Sheogorath coincided with Nirn's creation - Predictability/Order before Nirn, Unpredictability/Madness after.

EDIT: Umbra isn't even a Daedroth of some kind. All that we know of him is that he's a powerful soul (hence why the sword was so b.a.). So to say that Umbra is a powerful Daedra Lord is still a mislabel - he's just a powerful Something Lord until we find out more....

We don't know for a fact that Umbra isn't a Daedroth. We're told that the sword was created by a powerful witch whom was executed for her dark creation. That witch could have been a worshiper of Daedra, as the term "witch" is often slapped on a practitioner of this religion in Tamriel. The sword also chooses its own master, which is something many Artifacts do but especially Daedric artifacts which contain the blood of Daedra.

You're probably right though. Come to think of it, Clavicus Vile said that the soul Umbra contained was of a "hero" that he had a bone to pick with, and that usually denotes a mortal of some sort.

But that's not to say he couldn't become something akin to a Daedric Prince, in time. Clavicus Vile's domain is the granting of power and wishes through ritual invocations and pact. Umbra seems to be a being who hungers for souls. While this has traditionally been a hobby of Vile it's arguably not the main force he represents. If soul-eating is a powerful enough concept, it may well require its own Prince in time, although I'm certain this role is already filled by the God of Worms who may or may not have anything to do with all of this.

Umbra wasn't plotting to get into Vile's realm, Vile was the one that brought Umbra there. Umbra was actively trying to get out and took advantage of the opportunity he had.

Mannimarco does not eat souls, he's a necromancer - though if you just read it as 'destruction of souls' then you might be able to find some much older concept that Umbra could represent.

I think the fact that Vile's circumscription still surrounds Umbriel is enough of a hint that they are still technically in Vile's realm, and that Umbra doesn't have that much power.

It's pretty clearly stated that they stole a portion of Vile's power, but Vile is still more powerful, as it is, after all, his realm. If their plan to make Umbriel part of Mundus by using White-Gold Tower is successful, it'd be SOMETHING, perhaps a mortal, or something, with a significant portion of power.

There is a wheel, with 8 spokes and 16 holes. In the middle, there is a hub, and on the outside there is a void. The Hub is now Mundas, the out side Aurbis/Sithis, And there are 8 Aedra and 16 Daedra (Shezzar included in the later, not the former) Jyglyag hs no realm, as his body influences parts of all other realms and trys to keep them in predictable patterns. (He always fails)

Wait, Shezzar is included as one of the Daedra (as one of the 16 holes)? This is new information to me...
