[WIP] Daedric Sanctuary

Post » Tue May 25, 2010 11:12 pm

Back in October I started a "[WIP] Daedric Sanctuary" on the Canadian Ice fourms, but didn't get any replies, so I swept it under the rug for a time. Now I am pretty close to revisiting it and wondered at the community's response~

Here's a quote from the original thread :
"I hope to create would be something like a Daedric Faction mod, including several dungeons, a daedric "city" in a manner of speaking and maybe some extras... [perhaps get your own house?]
This mod is intended to expand on that little part of original Morrowind that in my opinion is begging for expansion. Yes, the Daedric Sanctuary Amulet found in Tel Fyr. A mysterious amulet that warps you to a strange place called Magas Volar, where an unique daedria called Lord Dregas Volar awaits to fight you wielding the Daedric Crescent. To make matters even stranger, if you defeat this stranger in a strange place; if you pay attention you'll note that his body does not vaporize and is not sent to Oblivion, like every other Daedra you have encountered thus far. Also if you check fast enough you'll note that the Daedric Sancturary Amulet vanishes upon his demise. [I won't even mention the strange game halting amulet he has on his body if you are unlucky enough to grab and use it ]

From that little encounter I decided that instead of ignoring this oddity I wanted to create a whole expanded part of the game in the spirit of quests like in Baldur's Gate 2; a mix of the Planar Prison and the Underwater city quests and the Drow City quests and maybe a certain skull quest.
I am probably shooting for the stars with what I want to do, but I figure if I declare this to be a WIP I can force myself to have a better chance at success "

In worst case I'll up with a new dungeon or house mod. Best case will be a city quest mod with a little visit to Oblivion... ;)

Here's a youtube video I just made of an Oblivion gate for Morrowind... Not necessarily the final look, but I tried to make it similar to Oblivion's Oblivion Gates...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-RsjdMri05o

What do you think? Keeper? or different design...

Here are some early concept screenshots :

I'm quite far from completion but maybe someone would have something to add? Anybody know anything I didn't mention about Magas Volar? and know just who Lord Dregas Volar is?

I did read recently that the Daedric Crescents were originally designed for the assualt on the ... was it the Battlespire? And anybody know the connection to Fyr? I'll make it up if it isn't already established lore.

Will update as progress is made.

Daedric Crescent Blade

Probably the most rare and even outlawed item of all the great prizes is the Daedric Crescent Blade. The Blade was used by Mehrunes Dagon's Daedric forces in the capture of the Imperial Battlespire. These extremely unique Blades were gathered up and destroyed after the Battlespire was recaptured by the Empire. All but one it seems. Though the Empire believes them all to be destroyed, it is rumored that one still remains in existence, somewhere in Tamriel, though none have ever seen it. The Blade lends it's weilder the ability to do great damage on an enemy and allows him to paralyze and put heavy wear on his enemy's armor. Quite the prize for any mighty warrior, if it does indeed exist.

-From "Famed Artifacts of Tamriel"

That's about all that's mentioned about it that i know of, so i assume you could come up with whatever you want for how Divayth Fyr got the amulet.

Sounds promising by the way. :)

If my mod goes the way I imagined it... Yep, you might have the chance to join a faction of daedra. I have to get the story down but there should be two opposing factions you might have the chance to join. Ideally, I would like to give the player several possible endings to the quests. If you love your daedra perhaps you can earn a place by their side, or perhaps you just want to destroy their kind... Would like to have lots of choice.
And finally for any faction it would be nice to have lasting benefits if you did join, unless they are doomed :o

I've been looking into the daedric resources, but I'm sure there are many I haven't found yet..! I'll check those that you pointed out~

Oh and here's your http://www.gamesas.com/bgsforums/index.php?showtopic=777888... It looks pretty nice from the screenshots, I'll have to check it out when you release it. If it fits in with the story, I definitely would love to include it or have it be compatible...

Sounds like a cool idea. :)

I would be down for that.

Glad to hear there's interest B)

Thanks for the info! I read that somewhere but didn't have it written down...
Hmm..
It sounds like a pretty impressive artifact; Truthfully in game though I didn't find it very useful... Although that paralyze was a pain! Will have to read up on the battlespire to properly make up a story about this last surviving Crescent...

Well, it is theorized by some that Divayth Fyr was the hero of the Battlespire game, or that he at some point met the hero of Battlespire, and was entrusted with his artifacts...I believe that all the daedric artifacts in Fyrs posession was found by the character you play in Battlespire.

Looks awesome, though you might want to consider one thing about the deadric gates;
In Oblivion, daedric gates are giant oht's, the daedric O...Just thought I'd say that.

That is curious indeed..!
To catch up that history I read the story of battlespire :
http://www.imperial-library.info/tsobs/

With so much Daedric dialogue in Battlespire it was an useful read! My conclusion is I don't think the champion of Battlespire is Divayth Fyr...
Just from the amount of time that has passed from the events of Battlespire vs Morrowind and this dialogue :

Battlespire ends 3E 399 and Morrowind happens Circa 3E 430...
That's about 30 years...
"[When you live for thousands of years, you need a hobby.] Something you love, always sparks your interest. [I collect treasures, and invite thieves to steal them. I'm a collector, and a sportsman. I collect enchanted items and ancient artifacts.] Have quite a few Dwemer pieces. And, as a sportsman, I love letting thieves try to steal my well-guarded treasures. Only a few rules. One, don't hurt the inmates. Two, don't hurt my daughters. My Warden and guards can look out for themselves."

When Fyr implies he lives for thousands of years, it sure sounds like he has been around a long time; and probably wouldn't be the champion...
I would have to think it is probably more likely he obtained those artifacts from the champion or some source...

How old are Fyr's wives/daughters? Well then again who knows if when he "made" his daughters if they were fully grown or what... that doesn't seem likely though.
I guess it's possible he could be the champion but I would doubt it. Not a single trace of Vatasha Trenelle or Josian Kaid the agent the champion fought for, or his imperial Battlemage origins ... right?

And as for the Oblivion Gate, I'll keep that in mind..! Might be able to do something about it in the final version.

EDIT: I guess the best course of action would to stay vague but hinting in respect to Fyr's connection to the champion even if he is him. That way people can debate this all day and there's no lore conflicts...!
I didn't realize how big an impact Battlespire had on this mod, since before today I didn't know anything about it; will have to think on this...

Has anybody here played Battlespire? Were Daedric Crescents abound? Found on only the most powerful Dremora? or on all manner of creatures?
I sure love Battlespire's cover :

Whaaa-??? This got bumped? I never noticed...

A BIG BUMP for this mod.

i just saw the oblivion gate video on youtube and had a heart attack.
please please please finish this!!!!

Mmmmmmmmmmm, I've let this stall for many months now. Didn't think there was much interest and put it to the side in favor of other game projects...
But, I'd like to see it completed. Even if I just make my goal the architecture of the city...

Speaking of which midgetalien...
also i am working on an exterior to magus volar (only a small one) and changing the teleportation of the amulet.

is this likly to conflict with this mod??

Did you ever complete this mod? If you did I might base some of my work around how you approached the area.

Another bump - I also saw the video. I don't know if you are still working on this, but if you aren't, it would be great if you could release some stuff as a modder's resource. :)

At this point there really isn't anything to release as a modder's resource... If you look closely at the Oblivion Gate youtube video comments you'll discover the secret of the gate..! The fact that I created it using my lego theory. I use what is available to me already, to create unique works...
[The gate is made out of fire shield statics, dark lights, lights and other little tricks...]

You've almost got my attention to start this back up though..!
If I were to continue a Morrowind project... Would you want me to focus my attention on this one? Daedric Sanctuary.
Which means I'll spend most of my time currently working on the underground Daedric Crescent shaped city. Or something Daedric ;)

The alternative is... Once upon a time I limitedly released an unfinished mod called XES. Xtreme Enviromental Sounds. Basically it's my answer to enviromental sound replacement like somebody else's fine texture or model replacement/sharpening. If I worked on this, I'd probably attempt to use what I have available and more to add an alternative / high definition replacer for Piratelord's sounds in his sound mod...
Wonderful for those who use headphones or high quality speakers...

So if I start up on Morrowind modding again, which do you prefer? A new unique Daedric experience? My limited goal would be to make fascinating daedric architecture/dungeon/city... Don't expect anything ordinary... [worst case would be a simple eye-candy city/dungeon romp, best case would be a City with quests and the works]

Or a high definition sound replacement for Vanilla and Piratelord's mod (probably)? Something akin to delicious ear-candy lol [worst case .. well there really isn't much of a chance things could go wrong. So probably only a best case here.]

Well those are the options...
Choose a destiny. Sight or Sound?

My vote would totally go for the Daedric sanctuary, even if his just a dungeon - though of course a city with quests would be awesome. The portal you made looks great, too... I can't believe it's made with vanilla statics only.

I dunno if i understand correctly, a daedric sanctuary? U had got a SUPERB portal to oblivion, why not follow this path and create a little oblivion realm to start with. Perhaps we are talking about the same, sorry if i misunderstood .
In any case we cant lost this fenomenal work of ingenius. I want to go through this portal, if i can help in any way dont doubt to pm me.

If you are interested, I've got in development (slowly) a daedric realms mod. It adds portals to various daedric ruins that will take you to the relevant daedric realm for a basic explore & hack'n'slash looting session.
Basically a daedric ruins expansion not using the "boring" interiors. I'm trying to introduce into it some new ways of building things

!!! All votes are for Daedric Sanctuary ..! [Well I guess it could be biased since this is the Daedric Sanctuary thread ;)]
But, good enough for me... I'll see what I can do. I would like to see where this project will lead Lord Dregas Volar...

My vote would totally go for the Daedric sanctuary, even if his just a dungeon - though of course a city with quests would be awesome. The portal you made looks great, too... I can't believe it's made with vanilla statics only.

I'll see if I can't keep creating darkly interesting sights ;)

Thanks connary! I'll try to create something very wild... I'm not sure if I'll be able to reach my original goal of a crescent ark/labyrinth city... And, I am not sure where the Portal will lead at this point. [although I know its purpose...] But, if you still wish to help when I have real progress made (hopefully soon), feel free to suggest changes or add your own touch if you are still interested..!
This is really great!

Yeahhhhh! :P ;)

It's not fair, I love the sound of both ideas :) If I had to choose, it would be the Daedric Sanctury.

I might mess with the sound mod eventually, but I guess Daedric Sanctuary is the chosen one!
In worst case I could just re-release what I already had made.

Very interesting... I like the sound of that project... I'll share any progress I make here that may be of interest to you ! When I have something real to show, perhaps somehow we can benefit each other or something...
And I totally agree about not wanting more boring interiors..! It's a disappointment usually when you already know how places are setup or what to expect. I thrive on seeing new and unusual sights...

Well thanks everyone for the interest! Now it's up to me... let's see if I still have the ability ...

Again, very creative use of stock models. :)

Thanks, hope I can keep it up... !~

A little surprise... I made a small "2d" intereptation of the Daedric Sanctuary as I imagine it, before actually building it. I have pretty insurmountable odds against me if I try this on the real scale, as well as technical issues to figure out...
I think I should probably just make it a outdoor cell far, far away [as to not conflict with other landmasses]. Although since this place is supposed to be underground I should use some kind of scripting to mess with weather only when in the cell.... Well that's far away from my concern right now!

Here's the small model I built.
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y133/X-Calibar/Morrowind/Daedric%20Sanctuary/DS1.jpg - dry high contrast version
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y133/X-Calibar/Morrowind/Daedric%20Sanctuary/DS2.jpg - dry dark version

http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y133/X-Calibar/Morrowind/Daedric%20Sanctuary/DS3.jpg - watery version

To describe quickly in words :
The Daedric Sanctuary is generally shaped in the form of the Daedric Crescent. The city consists of those tiny house pieces scattered along its surface. In the center of the city is a great shrine/towers something mysterious. On either side of the Crescent Blades are fortress like towers where the two ruling factions are supposed to moderate or control the city from.
Beneath the exterior city, are the labyrinth like areas [NOT SEWERS!] which are like the inner workings of the Sanctuary. Below that is a mystery to you for now.... ;)
The size of the city at this point hypothetically is pretty big. At least 3 to 4 cells from each end as seen in the pictures... A river of lava flows under the city, starting from the view point you see in the pictures. The landscape is a total mystery to me for now except for the general shape you see. Oh and the grey background in the back will be more rock [as well as the cieling]...

An alternative city would be if I made that side of the city open to the sea... [but I doubt I'll do that, even if it looks quite awesome lol] (I think I won't anyways..)
Whew ...
