Daggerfall Convert with some Questions

Post » Sat Apr 17, 2010 6:32 pm

Thank you TES General Discussion for making me research and found out the awesomeness of Daggerfall.
Anyways, I recently just got my copy of Daggerfall and been pondering two of these question:

1. Can I disobey the emperor's order and do what ever the heck I want?
2. Is time a factor in this game?

If these two question been answer, I would be really grateful.

Yep, you can do whatever the hell you want. And there is only a time factor for certain quests/main story quest but you won't be doing some of those so your in the clear. :)

Yes times a factor, if you wait too long you can never do the main quest, but all you have to do is talk to her then you can leave forever

By any chance, who is this her? I would like to do the main quest and mess around in Daggerfall at the same time.

And if I do meet "her", I can still mess around (like in weeks of RL time) and do the main quest at any time, right?

The "her" is Lady Brisienna. She will send you a letter with a place to meet her. If you go meet her in the time allowed, the Main Quest is open to you, leaving all options open. You can do story-line quests any time after you are invited to do them. Those invitations are usually offered to you when you have attained a certain level and completed certain preliminary quests.

Most, if not all, quests will have some time limit to them. So time will still matter somewhat, no matter what you do.

Ahh! Thanks for the info! Thanks everyone!

Yea, if you don't meet with Lady B, then you'll never be able to do the main quest. Although I swear I had a character once who snubbed her, and was given a new letter later on in the game, like after 3 or 5 years in game

A general rule is this: If you get a quest from ANYONE in any of the main 3 castles: Daggerfall, Wayrest, or Sentinel, DO IT. or just don't go there until you're ready to do part of the MQ.

Did you respond to that late letter? If so, how did it turn out?

Another general rule is that if you are going to do the MQ, it is safe to wait to respond until you are 5th level (except for Lady B.'s letter) or so, which is the point that you are high enough level to take all the quests that lead up to Lysandus' laying-to-rest. And then it is wise to leave the latter MQ's until you are about 12th level or so, which is where you need to be for that part of the MQ.

I did the Sentinel branch before any of the others. I found it to be the easiest, maybe because it seemed to have the least dungeons in it.

Yes - either do the Main Quest assignments or don't. A few of them have deadlines I believe, and missing them will break the progression of the game and you won't be able to "win".

Great to know. Oh and it worth mentioning I met up with Lady B already. Anyways, Thanks again!

Oh, and sorry if this is too much, but how the heck can one use a bow? Took me long time to figure out how to swing a sword and quite amaze by it but I have yet to figure out how to use a bow.

No, I was still quite adamant about not doing the MQ, so I snubbed her again. This was during the 9 or 10 years between the game coming out and me actually deciding it was time to do the storyline. Unfortunate, because it would have been interesting to know.

Similar to a melee weapon: Ready the bow with A or click the swords icon, right click (don't drag) to shoot. You don't really have to aim that well, as it is skill-based. Of course, you have to have arrows in your inventory :)

i think the game gives you a second chance on the MQ after awhile, im certain i was offered a second chance too in my latest game..

but a nice twist that should have been in Daggerfall would be that somebody else finds the mantella like after some 1 year if you declined the MQ.
