Daggerfall in Dosbox

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 3:10 pm

I have installed Dosbox and managed to follow Freddo's instructions to install Daggerfall. It told me that Daggerfall had installed correctly on my computer, but I am unsure how to actually get it to run. I tried going to c:\dagger\dagger and it told me I had the wrong cd in my drive and please insert the Daggerfall cd. I remember reading in Freddo's instructions that I would no longer need the cd, but what is the correct command to launch the game?
Also, do I need to follow the "mount" process every time I want to play? It doesn't seem to remember from one time to the next that I have already gone through all the set up steps and wants me to install the game each time I open Dosbox.
I am certainly not proficient in dos, although it was the way I started my game-playing experience. But I would appreciate any advice and help anyone could give me. I have read the readme file in the Dosbox installation, as well as using the "intro" helps in the Dosbox window. How do I launch the game?

You can insert the mount instructions in the [autoexec] segment at the end of the "dosbox.conf" file so that they will mount automatically as opposed to having to type them in every time.

Go into your "z.cfg" file, make sure "pathcd" says the same thing as "path" (should be something like "c:\dagger\arena2"). Then, run the game using the command "fall z.cfg"

I have no idea why this isn't in the sticky, since it's been typed a good few dozen times (totally not your fault, by the way).

It is.
Open Z.CFG in DOSBox folder\Games\DAGGER and make sure that both PATH and PATHCD say c:\dagger\arena2\ and then save the file. (you won't need the CD anymore).

Then go to the bottom where it says "# Lines in this section will be run at startup." and add the following lines:
MOUNT C GAMES
C:
CD DAGGER
FALL.EXE Z.CFG

Oh, I was told.

At least I didn't give him/her the wrong instructions.

Many thanks, Taemos! I did read this somewhere in the forum posts, I just didn't put it all together. I have launched the game successfully and am enjoying this immense game despite its limitations in light of today's standards.
