Daggerfall Free Download

Post » Tue Mar 15, 2011 2:16 am

Has anyone else who has downloaded Arena and Daggerfall from Bethesda (since they have been free) had trouble getting it to work with Windows Vista? I have downloaded the Dos Box, but it still won't load up or play. Any help would be greatly appreciated !!

I have heard Daggarfall is bigger than Morrowind, also it's buggier than a garbage can. I have not played it though so technically I have no say.

Yeah, as long as you can get DOSBOX configured and running properly, it shouldn't matter which games you use with it regardless of the OS you're using.

I use DOSBOX a lot for all sorts of older games, but as I don't have Vista, I can't really offer you specific configuration advice. Sorry.

I'm on vista, I got Arena working fine, but I'm having a few problems. I've downloaded the free version of Daggerfall, and I now have DFinstall.zip in my downloads folder. What do I do now?

When I try to open the .zip, it gets an error, when I make it an .exe, nothing happens. Help would be appreciated.

So, are you actually trying to run it through DosBox, or did you just install DosBox somewhere and tried to play Daggerfall directly in Vista?

Sounds like your download got corrupt, try downloading it again. Preferably after clearing the internet browser cache.

Actually, Daggerfall with the last patch is not that buggy. Moreover, Daggerfall doesn't crash a lot where Morrowind and Oblivion suffer from a lot of CTDs.

Is there a certain DOSBox you used? When I went to the download page Bethesda sends you to, there were a bunch to choose from, and I didn't know which was the correct one for my PC, so I took the first one on the list.

I am getting the message "Yah I had work, but the situation resolved itself. Thanks anyway." right after the intro video. Nothing else happens or responds after that. Any help?

That's really, really strange. The message you are getting is one of the possible messages you can get from a quest giver (sometimes they respond like you got there too late to take the job). I have no clue why you're getting it after the intro video, though.

I have managed to get Daggerfall to work on my MacBook under the Mac OS X. But the PC is still being weird.

Does anyone know why when I die and it fades out that the fading out takes forever, I mean one time it took almost 3 minutes.

Edit: Nvm playing in windowed mode solved it.

Vista 32bit SP1, DOSBox0.73 and working perfectly.

I did a bit of tweaking in the dosbox.conf file, but that's just cause I wanted a higher resolution than default, but lower than full screen.

First I had to configure the DOSBox, hmmm, can't remember if I started it off the DOSBox or the game itself. I'll try it again. I'm glad to see from the above answers that there is some hope for it eventually working though, the tweaking is where I am probably running into trouble, I am not a genius when it comes to tweaking things to get them to work, lol.

dont forget that memsize=32 in the dosbox configuration file.
(configuration file can be accessed and edited by using the start menu shortcut placed in the dosbox group)

I'm having a very hard time getting the DOSBox mounted. Can anyone explain how to mount it to me? (in the least complicated way possible?)

One thing to do when running dosbox in vista is to set it to run as administrator. Fixed a few issues for me when I struggled to get it working over a year ago :P

just as the tilde key doesn't work when playing Bethesda games (in Vista), the backslash in DOSBox didn't work either. I had to re-map it. It works now, but won't mount the Dos Box. I tried mounting it in my current games files, it wouldn't do it. If I use the program the DOSBox suggests, it says it doesn't exist.

???

I haven't used the latest version of DOSbox yet, but are you unpacking DaggerFall in a directory with spaces in its name? Remember DOSbox is a DOS emulator and works just like a DOS environment, and IIRC, DOS doesn't like spaces in directory names. Don't install/unpack DOSbox into the default Program Files or "User" folders. These directories have spaces in them. All games I load with the Box I put in a folder called "games" right smack in the middle of my C drive. That way there's no confusion or resistance. Then inside that folder, each game gets its own folder with a name no longer than 8 characters. Try that if you haven't already.
